Chapter 110: Chapter 110 Why Bother

The manager said nothing more, smiling as he left. Ji Nanfeng slowly turned to look at Fu Shinian, who was now standing in front of the floor-to-ceiling window in the car dealership accompanying her in looking at... a billboard by the roadside?

Fu Shinian had thought Su Mu was about to leave, but when he reached the door, he realized she had no such intention. She had come out merely because something had caught her eye. Following her gaze, he noticed she had been staring at the huge advertising screen on the roadside, featuring a camera advertisement from the top photography brand Hasselblad.

For a moment, Fu Shinian didn’t understand why the billboard had captured Su Mu’s attention, but then he remembered something. Su Mu’s major in university seemed to have been photography, yet for the past two years, she hadn’t touched on the subject at all, not even mentioning it. Fu Shinian had gradually forgotten about it, but now, seeing her like this, Fu Shinian knew that Su Mu was passionate about photography.

The two had been at loggerheads all day, and not just Su Mu, even Fu Shinian was utterly exhausted.

Yet, at this moment, the effect he desired still hadn’t been achieved. Everything that Fu Shinian had made Su Mu buy today was imposed on her; none of it was what she truly wanted. Fu Shinian indeed wanted to resolve things today and had prepared himself to be relentless.

She wouldn’t willingly spend his money, so he forced her to spend, to spend until she accepted it, until she was at ease with it, until she felt it was all perfectly normal. But after the entire day, even Fu Shinian had to admit that what Su Mu said was true: it was like a farce.

Had he retained a shred of reason, he wouldn’t have taken such action. But whenever he thought of how Su Mu would rather borrow money from Wen Han than spend his, he couldn’t control his emotions and desperately wanted to use every humiliating word on her.

But he hadn’t; he held it in, yet the simmering anger needed an outlet, hence the dramatic scene of today.

When Su Mu turned around, her eyes met Fu Shinian’s. She didn’t look away, quietly holding his gaze for a while before stepping forward.

Song Yi was frightened half to death upon seeing this. He felt that the battle was not yet over, but he also felt that he could not withstand another round of attack. Otherwise, he would really hand in his resignation; no amount of money could make him continue this job. It was like risking his life to earn a living.

Fortunately, both of them had calmed down by now. Su Mu stood in front of Fu Shinian, and after a few seconds of silence, she finally spoke:

"I want to go home."

Fu Shinian looked at the woman a head shorter than himself and didn’t speak for a few seconds. He had thought that Su Mu’s approach was a sign of capitulation, that she had truly realized her mistake, that she understood what he really wanted. But she hadn’t; she was just tired, mentally and physically drained from the day’s farce, longing for home.

He chuckled lightly:

"Let Song Yi take you home."

Su Mu looked at him, wanting to ask something but eventually did not. She turned and left, and it was Ji Nanfeng who stopped her, handing back the card:

"Return to its rightful owner."

Seeing the card in her hands again, Su Mu felt nothing but irony, but now she could only accept it. After all, even if she was unhappy, she couldn’t disregard Fu Shinian’s face in front of Ji Nanfeng and Song Yi:

"Thank you."

"Why are you being polite? Nanfeng and I are going to meet Qiao Yu in a bit to hang out. If you’re not busy, why don’t you join us?"

Su Mu shook her head:

"I’m tired; I’ll head back first. Have fun."

Song Yi followed Su Mu out, and Ji Nanfeng glanced sideways at Fu Shinian, unable to help but laugh:

"Why bother?"

——

On the way home, Su Mu was very quiet in the back seat, so quiet that even the sound of her breathing was absent, and Song Yi had to periodically check on her through the rearview mirror to make sure she was indeed alive.

Perhaps it was because Song Yi had received too many shocks today, he couldn’t help but want to say a few words to Su Mu. He glanced at her, weighing his words before speaking:

"Madam, please don’t be mad at Mr. Fu, he was just furious."

Although Fu Shinian didn’t spell out the reasons for today’s events, Song Yi had a pretty good guess, especially since he had been checking Su Mu’s bank statements for two straight months. He knew all too well that she hadn’t touched a dime of Fu Shinian’s money. Previously, when Fu Shinian found out, he was not angry, which meant Su Mu hadn’t done anything to trigger his wrath. Therefore, the reasons for his outburst today were likely one of the few he could think of.

Su Mu quietly looked out the window:

"Yes, he was furious."

Song Yi was silent for a few seconds, "Actually, from Mr. Fu’s perspective, it’s completely understandable. How could such a proud man tolerate his care and attention being dismissed as nothing, only for you to then accept another person’s kindness? This is about a man’s dignity, especially for someone like Mr. Fu."

"So if you were in his position, you would do something similar?"

Song Yi shook his head, laughing:

"How could that be? At most, I’d have a big fight with my girlfriend. I don’t have as much money as Mr. Fu to make such a scene, but I would also feel that my dignity as a man had been challenged. It’s a common problem among men, without exception."

Su Mu smiled slightly and said no more.

When Su Mu arrived home, the vast living room was filled with items sent by the mall manager. There was hardly any space to set foot, and only Auntie Lin managed to quickly clear a path for Su Mu to enter. Looking at all these things that every woman dreams of, Su Mu suddenly felt that she may indeed be ungrateful.

If he has the capability to give you this money, you should just spend it. Whether it’s genuine or not, it seems that’s not something money can measure, and Fu Shinian doesn’t care.

Faced with all these items, Auntie Lin was quite troubled:

"Madam, where should we put all these?"

Su Mu responded with a light smile:

"Sort them all out and put them away. If there’s no space, just put everything in the fitness room on the third floor for now. There’s plenty of room there."

Auntie Lin acknowledged with a nod.

"Auntie Lin, you don’t have to rush with these. Take your time to organize them. I’m a bit tired today, I’ll go rest for a while and come back later to help you."

"There’s no need for that, Madam. Go and rest, I can handle these by myself."

All day long, Su Mu had been in a state of high tension. She thought that once she returned to her room, she would fall asleep immediately, but contrary to her expectations, she felt more awake than ever. Even though she was exhausted to the core, her mind was filled with the craziness of the entire day, and she couldn’t manage to clear her mind and calm down.

In the end, she could only sigh, sitting up from the bed.
