Chapter 56: Chapter 56 Do you want to strangle me?
Lin Qian wiped her tears, using the dim moonlight to rise and prepare to move forward.
The place was pitch-dark, and she had no idea if there were small animals lurking around; she didn’t dare stay alone.
But as soon as she stood up, a piercing pain shot through her ankle.
Her ankle was sprained.
Lin Qian gritted her teeth, ignoring the pain in her foot, and took tentative steps forward.
Where was this place?
Pushing through the bushes only led her to more bushes.
Where exactly was she?
Endless fear assaulted her nerves, and the sound of the wind passing through the bushes, accompanied by the calls of unknown creatures, almost drove her to the brink of collapse.
She covered her mouth to keep herself from crying out loud.
She didn’t know how long she had walked until her foot hurt so much that she could walk no further. Lin Qian squatted down, hugging her trembling body, feeling helpless and fragile.
The evening breeze brought with it wavering noises.
Perhaps it was her illusion, but she thought she heard someone calling her name.
"Lin Qian? Lin Qian, where are you?"
Lin Qian was instantly alert, pricking up her ears to listen carefully.
"Lin Qian, if you can hear me, respond!"
The man’s voice was close, tinged with familiarity.
Was it Moran?
Had he come to find her?
Lin Qian suppressed the excitement in her heart and slowly stood up, tentatively asking, "Mr. Yin, is that you?"
Silence, and then the man’s deep voice resonated, "It’s me, Lin Qian, come out."
It really was Moran!
Lin Qian couldn’t define her emotions, but a weight lifted from her heart; it was like a drowning person clutching at a drifting log, and tears flowed uncontrollably.
She hobbled out of the bushes, sobbing, "Mr. Yin, I’m here."
In the boundless night, under the cold moonlight, the man stood tall, his phone’s light on, standing high above like a savior descending, bringing peace to the heart.
"Stay there, don’t move. I’m coming down."
Moran looked around, grasping at vines and branches as he agilely climbed down.
He approached Lin Qian at a fast pace, examining her under the light of the phone, his expression darkening.
"Lin Qian, are you okay?"
Her face was as dirty as a little stray cat, her clothes were badly torn, and her body still trembled lightly—she was the epitome of dishevelment.
Moran’s heart clenched, and he quickly took off his jacket and draped it over her.
Warmth spread through her body, carrying his familiar scent.
Lin Qian shook her head, wrapping herself tight in the coat, feeling her unsteady heart finally settling down.
"Let’s go, I’ll take you back."
Moran looked around for the way back.
Lin Qian bit her lip, enduring the pain in her body and silently followed behind him.
The woman’s breathing was heavy. Moran glanced at her inadvertently and saw her face etched with endurance, lips clenched, taking uneven strides.
Moran stopped, "Did you sprain your ankle?"
Lin Qian nodded, sweat already beading on her forehead.
Moran glanced at her, his voice laden with anger, "If your ankle is sprained, why didn’t you say so? What are you trying to prove? Do you want to ruin your foot?"
Lin Qian: "..."
Why did she feel like she was being scolded by a parent?
The woman looked at herself, appearing pitiful and helpless.
The anger in Moran’s heart slowly subsided, replaced by a sense of pity.
He walked over to her and squatted down, "Get on."
Lin Qian: "..."
What was he going to do?
Carry her?
She, a commoner, how could she have the cheek to be carried on the back of the high and mighty President Yin!
"It’s not necessary, Mr. Yin, I uh..."
Before she could finish her words, Lin Qian saw the man rise impatiently, scoop up her arm, and just like that, firmly hoisted her onto his back.
The man’s physique was stable, his strong arms supported her, making her feel both secure and touched.
Her arms circled his neck, and being so close, she could smell the fresh scent of his shampoo from his hair, mixed with his distinctive fragrance, intoxicating her.
All was silent around them; there was only the man’s steady footsteps, along with their faint breathing.
Lin Qian pressed her lips together, "Thank you, Mr. Yin."
She didn’t know how he’d found her.
But thankfully, he had.
"No need to thank me, thank your son instead."
Yin Moran spoke calmly, "It was your son who sensed something was wrong and told me to find you."
So it was her baby who’d noticed something amiss.
Lin Qian felt a warm feeling in her heart.
"Tell me what happened from the beginning."
Yin Moran said as he shifted her upwards in his arms.
He had asked Han Chen to check on Lin Qian’s route for the evening and found the taxi driver highly suspicious.
By the time he followed the route to the scene of the incident, he found Lin Qian’s phone on the ground, but the taxi driver had already left.
All he could do was follow the faint clues left on the ground, and thankfully, this woman was unharmed.
"The driver must have been instructed by someone. He said that someone paid him to... to commit a sexual assault."
Lin Qian’s hands involuntarily tightened, and her body stiffened at the thought of that scene.
Yin Moran’s steps faltered slightly, and after a moment of silence, he said, "It’s over now, relax a little."
Lin Qian didn’t speak, her emotions still fluctuating.
"Lin Qian, relax a little, do you want to strangle me?"
Yin Moran’s tone was heavy, tinged with a bit of grinding teeth.
Lin Qian was startled, and quickly loosened her grip, embarrassed, "Sorry, I didn’t mean to."
Yin Moran exhaled deeply and shifted her upwards again.
With his warm palm against the sides of her hips, Lin Qian felt her ears start to heat up.
"Um, am I very heavy? Maybe you should put me down for a rest?"
"As long as you relax a bit and don’t tense up like a dead fish, you won’t feel so heavy."
Lin Qian: "..."
Would this man die if he didn’t tease her?
Forget it, considering he was her savior, she wouldn’t stoop to his level.
Lin Qian pursed her lips and unconsciously relaxed her expression.
Perhaps feeling safe now, her eyelids drooped, and with the rhythm of the man’s footsteps, she leaned on his back and slowly closed her eyes.
From her back, Yin Moran could hear the steady breathing of the woman. He glanced at her, his thin lips curling slightly.
Thinking about the driver who had been instructed by someone, his smile faded, leaving only a severe coldness in his dark eyes.
"President Yin."
Han Chen hurried over with his team.
"Be quiet."
Yin Moran stopped walking and glanced over.
Han Chen quickly fell silent, his gaze sweeping toward Lin Qian on Yin Moran’s back, feeling incredibly surprised.
The boss rarely showed such concern and attention to a woman.
This Lin Qian held a special place in the boss’s heart!
"Boss, should we take her from here?"
The uphill path was difficult, Han Chen said with concern.
"No need."
Yin Moran held the woman behind him more tightly, his eyebrows and eyes stern, "Han Chen, catch that taxi driver and uncover the person behind him."
"Okay."
...
When Lin Qian woke up, she found herself lying in a hospital bed.
Her body ached all over, and there was an IV drip attached to the back of her left hand.
Her thoughts were momentarily stagnant.
She moved slightly, and then all the memories flooded back.
She remembered encountering a bad person, and then Yin Moran appeared.
And then...
Lin Qian startled, her face changing expressions.
It seemed she had fallen asleep on Yin Moran’s back in the end?
So, was it Yin Moran who had carried her all the way to the hospital?
How bold of her heart!
