Chapter 102: Chapter 102 Blind Date

Lin Qian answered the phone, "Mom."

"Um, Qianqian, are you busy?"

"Not really."

"It’s almost noon. I’ve reserved a private room for us upstairs in your building. Come up and have lunch with Mom."

Having lunch with Mrs. Gu?

Lin Qian pursed her lips and obediently murmured an acknowledgment.

After Mrs. Gu gave her the room number, she hung up the call. Lin Qian stared at her phone screen, lost in thought.

Thinking back to her last encounter with Mrs. Gu, Lin Qian sighed.

She hoped that this time, Mrs. Gu’s invitation to lunch wasn’t about Gu Yan and Su Yu’an’s matter.

After greeting the staff in the store, Lin Qian left the shop and headed to the top floor of the shopping center.

The top floor housed a high-end restaurant with soothing music and an elegant environment. It was a popular choice for many business professionals for dining and networking.

Lin Qian followed the waiter to the private room Mrs. Gu had mentioned, straightened her work uniform, and pushed the door to enter.

Not far away, Yin Moran, who had just rounded the corner, spotted Lin Qian entering the room.

His dark eyes narrowed slightly, revealing a trace of profound meaning.

"Han Chen."

Han Chen also caught a glimpse of Lin Qian’s fleeting silhouette.

As a top-level assistant, a single glance from Yin Moran was all he needed to understand his boss’s intentions.

The boss wanted to know who Lin Qian was meeting with today!

He promptly headed towards the front hall.

Inside the private room, Madam Gu was sitting face-to-face with a man.

The man appeared decent with his black-rimmed glasses, looking to be in his mid-thirties.

"Lin, although Qianqian isn’t my biological child, I raised her, and her character is impeccable. She’s definitely wife material and a good mother. I just wanted to help her find a stable man she can rely on in the future."

The man’s name was Lin Yi, and his family’s status was not far off from the Gu Family’s.

He had divorced three years ago and had a daughter.

The Gu Family and the Lin Family had business interactions, and as the eldest son of the Lin Family, Lin Yi had a good reputation in the business world, so Madam Gu was quite satisfied with him.

Although he was a good deal older than Lin Qian, and after all, Lin Qian was no spring chicken with a son to boot, the fact that Lin Yi didn’t mind her having a child in tow was already quite commendable.

"Mrs. Gu, please rest assured that as long as Lin Qian treats my daughter well, I will fulfill my duties as a husband and take good care of her," Lin Yi said with a smile as he adjusted his glasses.

Madam Gu opened her mouth to say something, but before she could, Lin Qian entered the room.

"Mom, I’m here."

"Qianqian, you’ve arrived."

Madam Gu turned and hurriedly gestured, "Come sit down quickly."

Lin Yi also stood up, and when he saw Lin Qian in person, a flash of light sparkled in his eyes.

The woman had delicate features, her makeup light and appropriate for work, more radiant and charming than in the photos.

Even in her standard work attire, her slender waist and long legs exuded a seductive charm of a uniform.

She had taste!

Lin Qian’s eyebrows knitted imperceptibly, not understanding why there was a strange man at the lunch Madam Gu had arranged.

"Qianqian, let me introduce you. This is Mr. Lin Yi from Lin’s Trading, a capable and promising young man. Lin, this is Lin Qian, also my daughter."

Madam Gu pulled Lin Qian over to introduce the two.

Lin Yi stretched out his hand to Lin Qian, "Miss Lin, you’re even more beautiful in person than in the photographs."

Had he seen her photos already?

Why did it feel like she was on a blind date with a man?

Lin Qian pursed her lips, carrying a distant smile, and shook hands with Lin Yi.

The three of them sat down, and Madam Gu urged Lin Qian to help herself to the dishes.

Across from her, Lin Yi considerately served her some dishes and even placed peeled shrimp in the plate before her.

Madam Gu was very pleased with Lin Yi’s gentlemanly demeanor, "Qianqian, I’ll go to the restroom for a moment, you and Lin take your time eating."

As she stood up, Madam Gu smiled at Lin Yi, "Lin, take good care of Qianqian for me."

"Of course, Mrs. Gu, please don’t worry."

Once Madam Gu had left, Lin Qian’s brows furrowed tighter, sensing the all-too-familiar excuse of a matchmaker leaving the table.

Indeed, a moment later, a text message arrived from Madam Gu.

"Qianqian, you’re not getting any younger, and it’s time to find a good man to marry. Lin is a very nice marriage prospect, selected especially for you. Although he’s a bit older than you, older men tend to be more caring. Listen to mom, get to know him well. If you’re not satisfied, I still have some young talents on my side."

So her intuition was right, today’s lunch invitation was a sham, a blind date in disguise?

And if this one didn’t work out, she had young talents lined up for her?

Lin Qian pursed her lips, unsure of what to say.

Perhaps Madam Gu meant well.

But shouldn’t she have asked about her wishes?

Didn’t she realize she had no intention of getting married?

"Miss Lin, allow me to introduce myself once again."

Lin Yi clasped his hands together, looking at Lin Qian, "My name is Lin Yi, thirty-five years old, modestly successful in my career, was married once, and divorced three years ago. I have a daughter who lives with me."

He was divorced?

And thirty-five years old?

Did she really look like she could only find an older man who was on his second marriage?

Lin Qian pursed her lips, poking at the food in her bowl, as Lin Yi continued on the topic.

"Mrs. Gu has told me about your situation, and I don’t mind that you have a child. I believe in love at first sight, and you give off a good impression, the kind of woman a man can trust to keep at home. If possible, I would like to get married in the first half of the year. After the wedding, you wouldn’t need to work hard anymore; you’d just need to take good care of my daughter at home. Besides your food and expenses, I’ll provide you with a monthly allowance of not less than ten thousand. You can be a full-time wife, no need for you to be in the public eye anymore."

His words carried a thick sense of superiority.

As if him setting his sights on her was a blessing from her past life.

She should be grateful and agree right away.

Lin Qian found it amusing inside, put down her chopsticks, and looked at Lin Yi, "Mr. Lin, I think there’s been a misunderstanding. I didn’t know my mother would have me come here for a blind date with you, so I’m sorry for the trouble."

Get married and become a full-time housewife?

Like a canary trapped in a cage?

This was certainly not the life she wanted.

Lin Qian stood up, ready to leave, when Lin Yi across from her quickly called out to her.

"Wait."

Lin Qian paused, turning to look at Lin Yi, who approached her.

"Lin Qian, do you look down on me, or are you dissatisfied with my arrangement? You should know that with a son by your side, no man with even a bit of family background will marry you as his wife."

Lin Yi pushed up his glasses, and a flicker of light danced behind the lenses.

Lin Qian frowned slightly, and, out of respect for Madam Gu’s face, she patiently said, "Mr. Lin, I appreciate your kindness, but I never planned on marrying in my lifetime."

"Not planning on getting married?"

Lin Yi’s mouth curled into a smile, as he wrapped an arm around Lin Qian’s waist and whispered into her ear, "It seems like you enjoy being kept on the side? If that’s your wish, I can also avoid bringing you home. I can give you twenty thousand a month as my mistress, how about that?"
