Chapter 147: Chapter 147 Visiting the Sick

The next morning, Tu Hengsha, on her way to work as usual, stopped by the hospital to visit Grandma.

The ward was quite lively, and she could hear Su Rongxing’s voice from the hallway. She hesitated about going in, knowing that encountering Su Rongxing would never be a pleasant affair.

But just then, the ward door opened. Sister Qian saw her and smiled, "The girl is here."

Everyone’s eyes turned to her, including Su Rongxing’s.

So she had no choice but to go in.

Su Rongxing had just arrived too, holding a thermos. Her initially smiling face fell flat the moment she saw Tu Hengsha. "Tu Hengsha, what are you doing here?" Her demeanor as the hostess made Tu Hengsha seem like an intruder.

Tu Hengsha really didn’t want to deal with her, and especially didn’t want to have an unpleasant scene in front of Grandma. As she frowned and pondered how to defuse the situation, Su Ronggui came forward.

"Why are you here so early today? Have you had breakfast?" He placed himself between her and Su Rongxing, blocking their view of each other.

"Yes, I’ve eaten!" Out of respect for Mr. Su and Grandma, she decided not to bicker with Su Rongxing.

"What’s with the ’here so early today’? Does she come every day?" Although Su Rongxing was being childish, she knew they were in a hospital and refrained from shouting. She pulled Su Ronggui aside to whisper, her furrowed brows and twisted nose showing her agitation.

"Yes." Su Ronggui did not deny it. "Why not?"

"Of course not!" Su Rongxing was anxious and pulled him even further away. "Su Ronggui, you don’t understand these girls’ tricks nowadays. They use visiting Grandma as an opportunity to get close to you, win Grandma’s favor, and then aim to marry into the Su family for an easy life. They’re so scheming!"

"There’s no need to worry about that." He looked at the girl whom Su Rongxing called scheming. "What’s Su’s will remain with Su’s, it’s yours, the three of you."

"What do you mean?" Su Rongxing glared at him. "You’re part of the Su family too!"

He remained silent, not arguing further.

"Su Ronggui, I’ve always considered you family!" Her definition of family differed from his understanding, her eyes adding a touch of shyness. Finally, she added, "Our whole family considers you one of us!"

While Su Rongxing was babbling at the side, Tu Hengsha had already sat beside Grandma, offering her a cup of warm water. "Grandma, it seems like you haven’t taken your morning medicine yet!"

Upon seeing this, Su Rongxing flared up, vigorously tugging at Su Ronggui while whispering through clenched teeth, "See? See? Didn’t I tell you? Isn’t this just currying favor with Grandma?"

He gazed softly at both Grandma and her beside the bed. "Grandma really likes her."

He didn’t deliberately lower his voice like Su Rongxing. Although not loud, it was enough for everyone in the room to hear. Grandma always had a big smile, whereas Tu Hengsha turned to glare at him after hearing his words.

Su Rongxing was boiling with jealousy!

Anyone could suck up to Grandma! She was pretty, her voice was sweet, everyone liked her, and she definitely had more taste than a country bumpkin. How could she be outdone by Tu Hengsha?

She lifted her head high, bringing the thermos she had brought and stood by the bed, precisely blocking Tu Hengsha’s way, forcing her to stand up and give up her spot.

Su Rongxing’s voice turned sweet and soft, "Grandma! I’m your real granddaughter! Look, I got up early to make you nourishing chicken soup, with authentic wild ginseng and various precious herbs! Su Ronggui’s mom, your daughter-in-law, said just this bowl of soup is worth thousands! Grandma, am I good to you?"

Grandma Xu glanced at Su Ronggui not far away, slightly helpless but still kindly nodded with a smile, "Good, good..."

Delighted, Su Rongxing turned to Sister Qian and said, "Are you the maid? Bring the bowl over, I’ll have Grandma drink the soup!"

Sister Qian’s face looked rather displeased. Although she was the maid, Su Ronggui, Tu Hengsha, and Grandma had always treated her politely, never stopping with "please" and "thank you." Even as she felt they were being overly polite, she appreciated it. Yet being ordered around so condescendingly felt uncomfortable, even if she didn’t show it directly. While passing the bowl, it was apparent she did so grudgingly.

However, the bowl was intercepted by Su Ronggui and set aside.

"Su Ronggui? Grandma wants the soup!" Su Rongxing said coyly.

"Grandma is frail right now, she can’t handle these rich supplements." His tone was indifferent.

"Huh?" Su Rongxing glanced at the breakfast items, "Then... how can she eat these every day? This congee—it’s obvious the rice isn’t of good quality! And these dumplings! Buns! So coarse they could choke someone! What’s this? Steamed egg? This steamed egg doesn’t even look professionally made! Our family’s steamed eggs are done with sea urchins or sea cucumbers! At the very least, they’d have dried scallops, prawns, or fish maw! Just this simple? Is it even fit for people to eat? Grandma is a patient! She needs better nutrition! How about I bring Grandma breakfast from home every day? Home-cooked meals are more refined!"

"..." Sister Qian’s expression completely fell; breakfast was her doing.

"Rongxing!" Su Ronggui’s expression turned displeased as well. "Sister Qian meticulously prepares breakfast early each day following the doctor’s advice, please respect others’ efforts! Also, this kind of breakfast is very good, simple but to my liking. Nowadays, I eat this every day and my stomach feels comfortable."

Su Rongxing instantly recalled her childhood memories, immediately putting on a smile, "I didn’t mean to say this breakfast was bad! Su Ronggui, I’m just thinking of Grandma! I just feel maybe Grandma should get more nutrients. I don’t really know how to care for patients, but my intentions are good. I only want the best for Grandma so she recovers faster! If I said anything wrong, please don’t mind. I’ll pay more attention next time! I like this kind of breakfast too! I think this steamed egg looks good! Since I haven’t had breakfast, Grandma, can I have the steamed egg?"

Though Grandma’s smile grew a bit stiff, she nodded amiably, "Eat it, eat more if you like it."

Standing aside, Tu Hengsha felt incredibly awkward, but mostly amused, thinking she should find a place to have a good laugh. Holding back her laughter, she said, "Grandma, Mr. Su, I’m off to work now."

"Did you have breakfast?" Su Ronggui asked her.

"Yes, I did."

"Then let’s go, I’m heading to work too. Grandma, I’ll come back tonight. Sister Qian, Xiao Guo, thank you for your hard work." With that, he left the ward with her.
