Chapter 309: Chapter 307: Irrevocable Move_1
The next day, Mu Yingchen took Su Wanxia to the residence of Su’s grandfather.
The place wasn’t too far from his villa, yet not close either—about half an hour’s drive. The direction was straightforward; leaving his villa and heading south would lead straight to Su’s grandfather’s abode.
It was a medium-sized separate courtyard with artificial mountains, flowing water, pavilions, and towers. The decor also had a retro style, emanating an ancient charm everywhere.
Mu Yingchen raised an eyebrow, not expecting the old man to be such a cultured person.
"Do you feel like everything is made of wood?" Su Wanxia, seeing Mu Yingchen’s expression, couldn’t help but tease him.
Mu Yingchen turned to look at her, a helpless smile creeping into his eyes.
"These don’t seem to be ordinary wood..."
With grace, Su Wanxia responded, "That can’t change the fact it’s wood, just like a man who looks very much like a woman still can’t change his essential nature of being a man because he can’t give birth..."
Mu Yingchen laughed, wondering where she got all these bizarre ideas, but there was some truth to them, "Hmm, that makes sense."
Su Wanxia smiled proudly, then pouted, "You don’t know how much he adores these things. All sorts of woods, jade, porcelain, you name it. He’s utterly obsessed. My room is all wooden too..."
Mu Yingchen raised an eyebrow, so the old man had these hobbies.
Having a hobby was a good thing; it would be problematic if he didn’t like anything at all.
Upon entering the main hall, they saw Shanshan chattering non-stop around Yaoyao, who maintained a stoic little face, indifferent to it all.
"My treasures..." Su Wanxia couldn’t help but call out.
Shanshan and Yaoyao, hearing Su Wanxia’s voice, suddenly turned to look at her.
"Daddy, Mommy..." Shanshan immediately began running toward them.
Yaoyao, too, pursed her small mouth, lifting her little feet and confidently walking toward them.
"You’re finally here. I was just negotiating with Yaoyao to go find you, but he simply wouldn’t go," Shanshan said, pouting slightly at the two.
"Mommy..." Yaoyao walked over as well.
Su Wanxia stepped forward, touched his little head, and then chuckled, pointing at Mu Yingchen to one side, "What about him?"
"Uncle..." Yaoyao looked at Mu Yingchen and the word ’uncle’ slipped out.
Mu Yingchen was rather disheartened. This little guy’s temper sure was stubborn.
He stepped forward, looked at Yaoyao, Little Tuanzi, "I am your daddy..."
Yaoyao glanced at him expressionlessly, then said again, "Uncle..."
"Daddy..."
"Uncle..."
Mu Yingchen felt like he might spit blood...
His temple was throbbing. Was this little guy born to oppose him?
Su Wanxia and Shanshan were bending over with laughter. Yaoyao was really too cute, actually managing to frustrate Mu Yingchen to this extent.
"Wanxia..." Grandfather Su also came out.
"Grandpa..."
Seeing the old man come out, Mu Yingchen wisely decided not to argue with the little guy for now. Once he got the old man on his side, and then married his mommy back, he didn’t believe his son would still call him Uncle!
"Grandpa, I’ve come to invite you to the Mu Family for a visit..." Mu Yingchen looked at Grandpa Su, with the perfect son-in-law façade.
Su Qinglong arched an eyebrow, a visit to the Mu Family?
"Hmm, that sounds good." If he was going to the Mu Family, then he’d meet Mu Zetian, that old fox. Seeing him hopping mad would be such a delight!
Grandpa Su strutted into the Mu Family home with Mu Yingchen, receiving treatment and attitudes that were simply beyond reproach.
Inside, Grandpa Su was quite impressed with Mu Yingchen, but his face remained expressionless. It was good to be satisfied, but it wasn’t time yet.
The moment Mu Zetian saw Su Qinglong’s smug grin, the corners of his mouth twitched involuntarily. How much he wanted to beat him up!
"Old master, you’ve arrived, please come inside..." Mother Mu also greeted him warmly, with a smile, ushering Grandpa Su inside.
Su Qinglong hummed softly towards Mu Zetian and then walked inside with Yaoyao and Shanshan.
Mu Zetian was feeling so aggrieved, filled with rage that he couldn’t vent, nearly driving him insane.
"Great-grandpa, let’s go..." While he was steeped in frustration, little Shanshan unexpectedly came back, took his hand, and pulled him inside.
He was so touched, nearly moved to tears. The little girl was indeed thoughtful...
Su Qinglong played the old card to the fullest at the Mu Family home all morning. They surrounded him with fine tea and warm smiles, afraid that any dissatisfaction would make him leave. But his leaving wouldn’t matter much—it was the three he’d take with him that was the problem!
Su Qinglong and Mu Zetian sat down to play chess, both masters of the game, making it hard to determine the better player.
Neither was willing to give in, battling fiercely on the chessboard.
Su Qinglong glanced at the deeply-concentrated Mu Zetian across the board and couldn’t help but curl his lips.
He rubbed the chess piece between his fingers, then, after assessing the board, placed it.
Mu Zetian’s face lit up with joy as he picked up a piece to make his move, but then Su Qinglong suddenly exclaimed with his hand outstretched, "Oh no, that’s wrong, I put it in the wrong place..." As he spoke, he picked up the piece he had just placed.
Mu Zetian was livid, "Su Qinglong, no take-backs in chess, do you not understand the rules?!"
Su Qinglong chuckled, "Objects are lifeless, but I am living. Where I want to place it is my choice..." He said, smacking the chess piece onto another spot with a snap.
Mu Zetian grew even angrier, "How can you claim to be a man of honor? Do you not understand that a true player never regrets a move?"
"I’ve never claimed to be a hero, and that’s how I’ve always played chess—if I want to take a move back, I will. You can be the hero and never take a move back if you wish, but if you do, I’ll think less of you..."
Su Qinglong’s unreasonable words instantly aggravated Mu Zetian, whose temples began throbbing with rage. A brute really is a brute, with not a shred of reason! It was infuriating!
"Hurry up, hurry up. We’re waiting to have lunch soon," Grandpa Su said, tapping his fingers incessantly on the chessboard.
Mu Zetian was so annoyed. He shouldn’t have agreed to play this ridiculous game of chess with this poor excuse of a dragon. This wasn’t a game of chess; it was an exercise in frustration!
Su Wanxia, Mu Yingchen, and a few others sat on the sofa nearby, chatting. Hearing the commotion from the chess players, they all shook their heads, laughing. It seemed these two elders were not going to have any peace in the future, always bickering whenever they met. They had been at it for so many years, wasn’t that enough?
"Mommy, why do the great-grandpas start quarreling as soon as they meet?" Shanshan asked Su Wanxia, puzzled.
Su Wanxia blinked and forced a dry laugh, "Well, that’s because they’re too bored, so they look for something amusing to do..."
