Chapter 264: Chapter 262 A Mind Gone Awry_1

"You know?" Kang Xiaolan deflated like a balloon. Well, it must’ve been her husband who told her.

Mu Yingchen has become a gossip too, telling Wanxia all these things.

Little did she know that Mu Yingchen hadn’t mentioned a thing; it was all Jian Manhui who told her.

"Yeah, it was Manhui who told me."

Kang Xiaolan raised an eyebrow; she knew it, Mu Yingchen wasn’t that much of a gossip.

"I’ll give her a call—" Kang Xiaolan said as she took out her phone.

"Don’t tell her I’m here," Su Wanxia whispered from the side.

Kang Xiaolan nodded in understanding.

Soon enough, Yan Yirou picked up the call. Kang Xiaolan told her that it was Sunday, no one was working, and invited her over to hang out. Yan Yirou, always up for fun, immediately agreed.

After hanging up, Kang Xiaolan looked at Su Wanxia, her eyes twirling.

Su Wanxia felt confused, "Why are you looking at me like that?"

"Well, how about calling Manhui too, and then have your little girl and that ’uncle’ come over too, let us meet them," suggested Kang Xiaolan.

As soon as Su Wanxia heard her, a low chuckle escaped her lips; Kang Xiaolan’s curiosity had gotten the better of her again.

"Sure, why not, there are quite a few people around today anyway."

"OK!"

-----

After Su Ran and Shanshan arrived at the neighborhood where Jian Manhui lived, it was just nine o’clock. Su Ran couldn’t help but wonder, don’t all women love to sleep in? He didn’t know whether that woman was up yet or not.

He was planning to lie in wait like a hunter.

"Uncle Ran, why don’t we go upstairs?" Shanshan asked Su Ran curiously.

Su Ran looked at her and then innocently said, "I don’t know which floor Aunty Manman lives on."

"What? Really?" The little girl’s mouth hung open in exaggerated surprise upon hearing his words.

"Then why don’t you ask Mommy?" Shanshan couldn’t understand why he would come straight here if he didn’t even know which floor Aunty Manman lived on.

"Why ask your mommy when it’s more fun to find out for ourselves—" Su Ran said mysteriously.

"Uncle Ran, I don’t get it—" Shanshan’s face was the picture of sincerity.

"Don’t worry, I’ll make a call," Su Ran soothed Shanshan as he took out his phone.

He then found Jian Manhui’s phone number, which he had sneakily taken from Wanxia’s phone book when she wasn’t looking. Peeking at someone else’s phone was not honorable, but after all, he was doing this for his own happiness, wasn’t he? He figured even if Wanxia found out, she wouldn’t blame him; after all, her best friend had to blossom at some point, right?

While listening to the dial tone, Su Ran shook his head; she hadn’t even set up a ringback tone. How typical of a lawyer, always so by the book.

The phone was answered after just two rings.

"Hello, who is this?"

Jian Manhui’s crisp voice came through the phone.

Su Ran chuckled lightly, "Manman, are you up yet?"

Hearing the bothersome voice on the phone, Jian Manhui felt utterly frustrated. It was a beautiful weekend morning, and hearing that annoying voice was not a beautiful thing at all.

"Mr. Su, I don’t think we’re that close. Please call me Miss Jian or Attorney Jian if you like. If you have any legal matters, we can discuss them at my office during work hours. If it’s not about that, then sorry, I’m very busy and don’t have time for a chat!"

Jian Manhui had just finished her long speech and was about to hang up the phone when she suddenly heard Su Ran shouting from inside the phone, "Shanshan, come, tell your Aunty Manman that you miss her--"

"Aunty Manman, where are you, I miss you--" Shanshan’s sweet and adorable voice came through the phone, but the words did not make her happy at all. It wasn’t that she didn’t like Shanshan, it was just that Shanshan was now with that despicable man.

"Hehe, Shanshan, Aunty is at home. Be good, and wait for Aunty to come see you."

"No need, Aunty, we’re downstairs at your place--"

Jian Manhui’s eyes widened in shock, "Downstairs at my place?"

"Yeah, right downstairs."

Jian Manhui rushed from the bedroom to the balcony, opened the window, and couldn’t help but stick her head out to look down.

As she opened the window, Su Ran had already craned his neck to see which floor and which apartment she was in.

When Jian Manhui flung the window open with a whoosh, Su Ran immediately spotted her.

The two looked at each other across the distance of twelve floors; although they couldn’t see each other’s features clearly, Jian Manhui knew that man was smiling.

She became furious instantly. This man must be sick in the head, right? She had made herself clear to him last night, so why had he come again today?

Su Ran counted the floors, twelve in total. This direction should be the east side.

Little liar! He knew she had lied when she said she was on the eleventh floor; he wasn’t foolish enough to fall for it, did she really think he was a three-year-old who could be easily deceived?

"Shanshan, let’s go. We’re heading up to the twelfth floor."

"Mmm." Shanshan nodded, then holding the phone, said to Jian Manhui above, "Aunty Manman, wait a moment, we will be right there."

Jian Manhui looked to the sky, speechless, then hastily closed the window and dashed back to the bedroom like lightning to change her clothes since she was currently wearing a silk jumpsuit nightgown.

A white shirt, blue jeans, and still in slippers, she tousled her hair with her hands.

As she ruffled her hair in front of the mirror, she suddenly stopped mid-motion.

What was she so panicked about, why was she changing clothes and fixing her hair for that man who had nothing to do with her, especially since she disliked him so much? What was she even dressing up for!

Her brain must be flooded!

She couldn’t help but scold herself inwardly; then she simply messed up her hair in the mirror even more.

The messier, the better! It’s not like she was doing it for him to see!

Yet just after she had ruffled her hair a few times, the doorbell rang.

She immediately stamped her foot in frustration, took a deep breath, and could only walk toward the door.

If it had just been that man alone, she could have pretended not to hear, even if he broke the doorbell, she wouldn’t have opened the door for him. But Little Shanshan was with him and no matter how she felt, she couldn’t just leave the little kid out in the cold.

With a resigned shake of her head, she went to the door, without looking, she flung it open.

"Aunty Manman--" Shanshan immediately rushed forward to hug her leg.

Her gloomy mood miraculously disappeared upon seeing Shanshan’s cute little face.

"Shanshan, where’s your mommy?"

"Mommy and daddy went on a date, and Uncle Ran and I came to find you to play," Shanshan obediently recounted to Jian Manhui the fact that her daddy and mommy had abandoned her to go on a date.

Jian Manhui gave a knowing ’oh’, then glanced at Su Ran standing to the side. She took Shanshan’s hand and walked inside, treating Su Ran less like a guest and more like he was just air.

Su Ran couldn’t help but raise an eyebrow; he was really curious as to what exactly he had done to annoy her so much that her attitude towards him was consistently so hostile!
