Chapter 217: Chapter 217 Do You Have a Conscience_1

"Really? So, are you still going to look for Daddy?" Su Wanxia eyed her askance.

"Hehe---won’t go anymore..."

Shanshan fawningly told Su Wanxia that she wouldn’t go, but deep down, she desperately wanted to.

These past few days, she’d been dreaming about her explosively handsome Daddy every night, wishing she could rush to him at once and tell him he was her dear daddy. Unfortunately, Mummy wouldn’t allow it, besides, she had no idea where to find him. Not getting his phone number last time was her biggest mistake.

She nearly died of regret these past few days~~

Hearing the little girl say this, Su Wanxia finally cracked a smile: "Mm, Shanshan is the best behaved---"

No sooner had Su Wanxia given her praise than Shanshan burst into hearty laughter.

"Where’s Uncle Ran?" Su Wanxia looked around but didn’t see Su Ran anywhere.

"Uncle Ran doesn’t stay here, he leaves after visiting me each day~~"

"Oh..." Su Wanxia nodded.

She guessed Su Ran might have brought some people with him; probably he was staying with them.

But then again, even if offered, he might not be comfortable living here.

After having lunch with the family, Su Wanxia stood by the window, hesitating with the phone in hand.

When she had left so abruptly back then, there hadn’t been the chance to say goodbye to Yirou, Xiaolan, or the others. Once she arrived, not only was her health poor, but she also wanted to avoid Mu Yingchen, so she hadn’t been in touch with them.

In the blink of an eye, years had passed since she last saw them. Should she contact them now that she was back?

They must have cursed her out in their hearts--

Xiaolan’s child should be four years old by now; she wondered how Ji Hua and Yining were, and whether Yirou and Manhui had found their destinies. She really missed them...

Outside the window, the sky was a brilliant blue, the sunlight perfect, a vivid spring in full swing---

She chuckled ruefully, then took a deep, relieved breath, slowly flipping through the contact list.

After browsing through several names, Su Wanxia went back and forth a couple of times, finally deciding to call Jian Manhui’s number.

Among the four, only Jian Manhui had little contact with the Mu Family.

"Hello--" The phone was picked up after barely two rings, a crisp and efficient voice coming through from the other end.

With a twinge of sentimentality, Su Wanxia curled her lips upwards and spoke softly, "Manhui..."

Though she only uttered these gentle words, the line went silent on the other end.

After a long pause, Jian Manhui’s voice, full of disbelief, came through: "Wanxia?"

"Mm, it’s me--"

No sooner had Su Wanxia’s voice fallen than Jian Manhui’s voice on the other end suddenly intensified.

"Su Wanxia! Do you even have a conscience--always disappearing like this, what do you really want? I just can’t understand how I became friends with such a heartless, unprincipled person like you!"

Jian Manhui’s exasperated voice made Su Wanxia smile bitterly. She hadn’t expected the usually composed Manhui to burst out with such fury; it must have been that she was truly upset with her.

"Manhui, I’m sorry, okay? I was wrong before for not saying anything to you guys, but I had my reasons at that time..."

"What reasons? Not wanting Mu Yingchen is one thing, but you dumped us all too? Did you ever consider us friends at all?"

Right now, Su Wanxia had no defense against Jian Manhui’s accusations. Things were too complicated to explain in just a moment.

"Manhui, if they don’t know the reason, how can you not know?" Su Wanxia implored pitifully.

She only had to play the pity card to make the big lawyer drop past grudges and continue being friends with her.

Jian Manhui was verbally blocked by Su Wanxia’s words and fell silent for a while on the phone, but finally, her tone softened a bit, "Where are you right now?"

Su Wanxia hummed a response but still told the truth, "I’m at home right now, I just came back today--"

"So you still have some conscience to give me a call after coming back, otherwise, Su Wanxia, we would definitely have cut ties with you!"

"Hehehe, Manhui, isn’t that a bit too severe?"

"All of us agreed that if we didn’t see you in another two years, we’d all collectively cut ties with you--"

A warm current swept through Su Wanxia’s heart; indeed, having good sisters felt wonderful.

"Alright then, don’t be mad at me anymore. How about this... I’ll treat you to dinner tonight as an apology--"

The dinner invitation was just a cover for the true purpose of meeting up.

Jian Manhui was quick to understand her meaning and agreed without hesitation.

"And... Manhui, don’t tell Xiaolan and the others for now--" Su Wanxia’s tone was somewhat tactful.

"Fine, I got it--" Jian Manhui sighed, her voice carrying a hint of resignation as she responded.

After arranging the meeting place with Jian Manhui, Su Wanxia went downstairs to see Shanshan playing noisily with her grandparents, Su’s father, and Su’s mother.

"Shanshan, mommy will go out to meet a friend later, do you want to come along?"

Upon hearing this, Shanshan’s eyes immediately lit up as she ran towards Su Wanxia.

"Really? I want to go too, mummy..." She looked up with her little face, batting her big eyes sweetly.

She hadn’t been out for two days, and although she had a great time with her grandparents, she was eager to see what C City was like as she hadn’t played outside properly before.

It was all Uncle Su Ran’s doing; he insisted that she could only go out after her mummy arrived, and she had been looking forward to it for a long time.

"Okay, but you have to promise mommy not to get into any trouble first," Su Wanxia said, looking down at the little princess who was being as well-behaved as possible at that moment.

This little girl’s personality was something Su Wanxia knew inside out; when she wanted to persuade you to take her out, she’d quickly present herself as obedient and well-mannered, but once outside, she’d become like a rabbit let loose in the forest, running around and playing wildly.

The little one was bold, too, relying on her intelligence and good memory, and the fact that she carried a mobile phone, so she wasn’t afraid of getting lost. Thus, she would play hide and seek nearby.

Thankfully, she would never stray too far and always make sure she could find her way back to them.

"Mm, Shanshan promises not to cause any trouble."

"We’ll see how you behave~~" Su Wanxia smiled, bending down to tap the little girl’s nose.

"Don’t worry, mummy, I’ll be good and listen," she assured.

"OK!" Su Wanxia gestured an ’OK’ sign towards her.

"Wanxia, who did you make plans with?" Su’s mother couldn’t help but ask.

"It’s Manhui. We haven’t met for so long, so I thought we should meet since I’m back..."

"Is it just her?"

Presumably, Su’s mother also knew about Kang Xiaolan, Gong Yining, and the Mu Family’s deep connections and that was the basis for her question.

"Yeah, just her," Su Wanxia nodded.

She hadn’t decided yet whether to tell Xiaolan. She trusted that Yining wouldn’t tell Ji Hua, but if that Kang Xiaolan character found out, she would undoubtedly blab and let everyone know she was back.

So, it was best to wait a little longer--
