Chapter 177: Chapter 177 Almost the same as gold_1
Su Wanxia huddled her neck and wrapped her arms around herself as she jogged over to Mu Yingchen’s side.
Before she had a chance to ask why he had called her out, Mu Yingchen, with a stern face, spoke first.
"Why did you rush out dressed like that?" he frowned and tugged at her collar.
"Um~ I didn’t expect it to be this cold, and besides, I didn’t want to keep you waiting," Su Wanxia said, with a slight sense of grievance.
Mu Yingchen let out a sigh of helplessness, then turned around and took a small box out of the car.
Su Wanxia’s curiosity was instantly piqued as she watched him--
Mu Yingchen stuffed the box into her hand, saying somewhat awkwardly, "Open it when you get back."
Su Wanxia’s eyebrows shot up? What’s this, so mysterious, insisting she wait until she’s back to look.
"What is it?" she asked, looking every bit the curious baby.
Mu Yingchen blinked at her, "You’ll know when you open it back home."
Seeing him so unwilling to speak, Su Wanxia couldn’t help but purse her lips in resignation.
"Hmm, all right, but this box is quite small, yet it feels pretty heavy," Su Wanxia muttered softly, looking down at the exquisite box in her hand.
She then looked up sharply, jokingly surprised at Mu Yingchen, "This isn’t gold in here, is it?"
Mu Yingchen’s mouth curved into an amused smile, "Let’s go back, it’s cold outside."
"No, tell me first~~" Su Wanxia played the rascal.
After a moment’s thought, Mu Yingchen hummed in agreement, "It’s not far off from gold~~"
"What?" exclaimed Su Wanxia in surprise, not far off from gold? Could it be Silver?
Looking at her naïve expression, Mu Yingchen spoke with indulgence, "If you’re so eager to know, why not just look when you get back."
"Okay, then I’ll go back. It is really cold out, you should hurry back too," she said, rubbing her arms, her body starting to shiver.
"Hmm, head back," Mu Yingchen said, yet he stood still instead of moving.
Su Wanxia knew what he meant and reluctantly turned toward the door first.
Upon reaching the door and opening it, she turned back for a glimpse of his tall figure in the night, smiling softly before closing the door.
Once she entered, Mu Yingchen finally sat in his car and drove away.
Back in her bedroom, Su Wanxia unwrapped the exterior of the box with anticipation, then nodded continuously at the delicate lid.
What could be inside? Almost like gold? She was really curious about what Mu Yingchen had given her?
Forget it, there’s no use guessing, she thought, as she opened it to take a look.
Thinking this, she reached out and flipped the lid open--
"Wow---" she gasped in astonishment!
So bright, so sparkling, and red! Was this a gemstone? This was nothing like gold, it was much better, wasn’t it?
But... why would he give her such a large piece of this? Had he lost his mind? Had too much money to spend?
However, this shape, it looked like······
She carefully lifted it out of the box with her hand.
When the entire jewel was fully revealed, her eyes widened in shock, and her mouth involuntarily opened.
This was an apple!!
With countless facets, crystal clear, and sparkling--a red apple that under the light shone even more dazzlingly, with overwhelming splendor.
"So beautiful!" she exclaimed, staring blankly at the exquisitely delicate gemstone apple in her palm.
After staring at it for a while, she suddenly became puzzled.
Why was Mu Yingchen giving her this? Had he lost his mind? It was neither edible nor wearable, was she supposed to just display it? Wouldn’t it attract thieves?
Thinking this, she picked up her phone and dialed Mu Yingchen’s number.
The phone rang only once before he picked up, as if he had been waiting for her call all along.
"Have you opened it and looked?" His magnetic, pleasant voice came through the phone.
"Yes, I have, but what are you giving this to me for?" she asked, puzzled.
This thing looked expensive at first glance, but it was useless to her, apart from being a decoration. And even as a decoration, wasn’t it excessively extravagant—
"Do you like it?" Mu Yingchen didn’t answer her question but asked another.
Su Wanxia nodded, "I like it, but it’s too precious." Such a large piece, and red at that, so intricately carved, it must be worth quite a lot of money.
"That’s good as long as you like it."
"But why are you giving this to me? If you wanted to buy me an apple, just buying a bag of real ones would have been fine. I could have eaten one whenever I wanted to, why on earth did you buy this thing? Can’t eat it, can’t play with it—" she muttered into the phone at Mu Yingchen.
Mu Yingchen laughed softly on the other end of the phone when he heard her words, "Do you know what day it is today?"
Su Wanxia furrowed her brows, "What day is it?"
Mu Yingchen paused for a moment, then said softly, "Christmas Eve..."
"Oh—" Realization dawned on her, and her mouth dropped open in surprise.
"So today is Christmas Eve!" She couldn’t remember how long it had been since she last looked at the calendar, so she had no clue about Christmas Eve or any other holiday.
"Yep."
"You could have just given me one to eat—" The fact that he gave her one made of rubies really shocked her.
"Don’t you eat apples every day?"
"Er—" She found herself at a loss for words.
"Besides, by giving you this, you can look at it every day, and you’ll surely think of me when you see it. If I had given you a bag to eat, you’d forget all about it as soon as they were gone," Mu Yingchen said teasingly.
"Umm... then why didn’t you tell me this morning?" She couldn’t understand why he, knowing what he knew, hadn’t mentioned a word when he drove her home that morning.
"I only found out after I got off work," Mu Yingchen spoke softly.
Su Wanxia nodded in understanding and said, "Did you see others buying apples on the street when you walked—"
Mu Yingchen’s low laughter echoed, and then he replied, "Merry Christmas Eve!"
Su Wanxia also couldn’t help but laugh, "Merry Christmas Eve to you too, but I don’t have an apple to give you." Then she changed the subject, "Otherwise, shall I wash an apple from my house and give it to you?"
Mu Yingchen laughed helplessly, "No need, keep it for yourself."
"I was just saying—"
"......."
"Ha ha..." Teasing Mu Yingchen felt especially fun to her.
"Tomorrow is Christmas, wait for me at the office in the afternoon," Mu Yingchen commanded.
Su Wanxia took a deep breath and hooked her lips into a smile, "Okay."
The two of them chatted for a long time before finally hanging up the phone, jumping from one topic to another. Frankly, she didn’t even know what she and Mu Yingchen had been talking about, but she felt very happy, and the issues weighing on her heart seemed much lighter.
She twirled the apple in her hand, watching the dazzling light reflected by its rotation, and her gaze slowly became dreamy.
