Chapter 230: Chapter 230: You Heard It Wrong
Chantelle was shocked by his words and quickly turned to look at him. Her eyes widened in horror.
Red rashes had spread across Daniel’s body. His hands, which had touched the crayfish, were swollen and looked painful.
"You’re allergic to crayfish?" she was confused. She had never heard about it before.
"I wasn’t before," Daniel replied weakly. "Maybe it’s the new medicine I’m taking... it must’ve caused some reaction."
Even though he looked pale and uncomfortable, he still kept peeling the crayfish for her.
Chantelle grew furious at his stubbornness. She grabbed a tissue, wiped his hands, and snapped, "Stop peeling the crayfish! We’re going home!"
"Don’t worry. Philip’s here to look after me. I’ll just take a pill when I get home," Daniel said, trying to reassure her.
"How can I not worry? Just look at how pale you are! You’re a grown man—why can’t you take care of yourself?" Chantelle scolded him, then walked over to Philip and Thea to explain what happened.
"Daniel’s having an allergic reaction? Did he sneak a bite of the crayfish?" Philip asked, surprised.
"He didn’t eat it. He just peeled some for me," Chantelle said.
Philip blinked in disbelief. Why didn’t he wear gloves? He knows he’s allergic to crayfish. Is he seriously trying to make himself sick just to please his wife?
Since they were kids, Philip had known his best friend was allergic to crayfish. Because of that, he rarely got to eat seafood in the last twenty years. So when he saw the girls enjoying it, he got excited and planned to have some too. But sadly, his friend had an allergic reaction before he could even get a taste.
They got back to Western Hill Villa in fifteen minutes. Chantelle quietly entered the passcode so Daniel wouldn’t see it. That small act left him feeling upset.
The villa wasn’t far from the market. On the way home, Chantelle had asked Russell to pick up some antihistamines. So when they arrived, Daniel was able to get a shot right away.
Philip followed Daniel into the room and saw him lying weakly on the bed. "You already know you’re allergic to crayfish, Daniel. Why were you so careless? What if you caught a fever? That would’ve made your injuries worse. Don’t you know how serious this is?"
"I’m not worried. I have you here," Daniel replied calmly.
"I’m not invincible! You need to take better care of yourself. Don’t drag my name down with your nonsense," Philip scolded him.
He was clearly angry, but deep down, he was more worried about Daniel’s health. Daniel was still recovering and couldn’t afford to make things worse.
"I know my limits. Don’t worry, it won’t happen again," Daniel said, trying to calm him down.
"Yeah right. You said the exact same thing last time. Liar!" Philip snarled.
"I’m the one who’s sick. Are you seriously picking a fight with me?" Daniel complained.
"Fine, you win," Philip sighed. "I get it. You’d risk your life for Chantie. But listen—your abdominal injury is serious. If you’re not careful, it could mess up your performance... as a man. And that’s one thing I can’t fix for you, buddy."
"I’m fine. But thanks for worrying," Daniel said.
"Sure, whatever you say. You’re the patient—you know yourself best," Philip replied with a shrug. His sarcastic tone got on Daniel’s nerves.
Just then, Thea walked in, looking for Philip. She stopped in her tracks when she caught the tail end of their talk about male performance. Her eyes widened, and she quickly covered her mouth before rushing back down the stairs.
"Oh my gosh! Chantie, I just heard something huge!" she whispered urgently.
Chantelle raised a brow. "What now? Did you see a ghost or something?"
"It’s worse than a ghost!" Thea said in a panicked voice. "I heard Philip and Daniel talking. Daniel is..." She paused, struggling to say it.
"What about Daniel? Is it serious? I’ll go check on him," Chantelle said, clearly worried.
"No, not like that. It’s his performance....as a man!" Thea exclaimed. "Philip said it could be affected! This is huge, Chantie. But wait... how would Philip even know that? Did they... No, this is crazy!" she gasped and clapped a hand over her mouth in shock.
Chantelle couldn’t help but smile at her friend’s dramatic reaction. She gently said, "Hmm... Thea, don’t overthink it. I’m just worried you might end up hurting the feelings of that sweet guy you like."
Thea let out a big sigh. "I do like Philip, but I have no plan to hinder their relationship. Tell Daniel he doesn’t need to worry."
Chantelle rolled her eyes and said, "Watch what you say, Ms. Thea."
Thea slowly turned and saw Philip standing there, holding a cup of chocolate milk. His face showed no emotion.
She was so startled that she dropped the Baymax plush toy in her hands. It slipped through her fingers and landed on the floor with a soft thud.
"When did you come down?" Thea asked, flustered.
"Just a few minutes ago. You didn’t answer my question. Who do you like?" Philip said.
"You heard it wrong! I don’t like anyone!" Thea blurted out and her face turned red as she ran off.
Chantelle couldn’t help but laugh. Her friend had just exposed herself.
Philip looked confused. "What’s wrong with that woman, Chantie? Her face was so red. Is she sick or something?"
"Ha! You’re such a fool, Philip. You and Thea are perfect for each other!" Chantelle teased him.
Philip shot her a look. "Hmph, watch your words Chantie. That crazy woman might come after me if she hears you say that."
"Fine, I’ll stop." Chantelle chuckled. "Oh, by the way, Thea packed some crayfish just for you. Don’t forget to eat it." She placed the food in front of him.
Philip’s eyes lit up. "Wait... this is for me?"
"Yeah. Thea felt bad you didn’t get to try it, so we brought some home," Chantelle explained.
"What’s up with that crazy woman? Why is she suddenly being nice?" Philip asked, clearly suspicious.
"If you’re not eating it, I’ll just take it back," Chantelle warned.
"Wait! Even if she poisoned it, I’m not worried. I’m a scientist, so no one can kill me that easily!" Philip quickly grabbed the crayfish and started eating happily when he realized Chantelle wasn’t going to take it.
"Why is Daniel allergic to crayfish? Is it because of his medicine?" she asked.
