Chapter 172: Is He Badly Hurt?
Chapter 172: Chapter 172: Is He Badly Hurt?
"Don’t worry, Philip. I’ll be okay," Daniel said, trying to ease his concern.
"You’ll be okay? Are you serious? This kind of wound could kill you!"
"I was going to tell you before we got back," Daniel admitted. "But then she started looking for me at the pit. I didn’t want her to panic if she didn’t find me."
"Yet you’re not afraid she’d cry if you died?" Philip shot him a glare while pulling out his medicine chest.
Luckily, he had brought it. Without it, Daniel’s condition could’ve gotten much worse.
"I wouldn’t die, not when I have you here," Daniel said with a weak chuckle.
"Hmph, flattering. But if we’d been even a few minutes late, your death would’ve ruined my life."
"Thank you, Philip."
"If you really want to thank me, stop getting yourself hurt! You know I’m busy!"
"Okay."
"Hmm? Strange. Looks like we finally agree on something!" Philip carefully applied the special ointment to the wound and replaced the bandage.
Even though he was annoyed, he couldn’t bring himself to punish Daniel by stitching the wound roughly.
"Well, I know you’re worried about me, so I’ll listen to you this time."
"Then... will you buy me a new phone?"
"What if I double your research budget this year?"
"Really?" Philip’s face lit up, glad to see Daniel wasn’t talking nonsense from the pain.
"But can you go check on Chantelle? I saw she had some scratches. It’d be better if you helped treat them. I’m not begging. I’m just worried she won’t listen to me later."
"Of course!"
"Thanks a lot!"
"Oh please, no need to thank me, Mr. Wilson!" Philip said cheerfully as he grabbed his medicine chest and headed off to see Chantelle.
Daniel chuckled when he saw how happy Philip looked. Then, he carefully stood up and slowly went downstairs.
On the second floor, the door to Chantelle’s room was slightly open. Inside, Philip was seen begging her.
"It’s going to be hard for you to take care of all those scratches, Chantie. Why not let me help you?" Philip knelt with his medicine chest, holding onto her leg.
Chantelle quickly refused. "I can do it myself."
"Chantie, do you not like me anymore?" Philip looked up at her with sad eyes.
She glared at him. "Hmph, did you really think I wouldn’t hate you after you agreed to pretend with Daniel?"
Chantelle ruthlessly burst out her annoyance.
"Sigh... It’s not like I had a choice. Daniel funds our lab’s research! Do you think I could say no to him? If I didn’t need his support, I’d help you beat him up every time he bullied you!"
"Really?" Chantelle raised an eyebrow, not fully convinced. She was about to kick Philip out and enjoy a hot bath when she noticed a shadow by the door.
She suddenly realized Daniel might’ve sent Philip over.
"Of course! We’ll always be best friends!" Philip said as he started massaging her leg. Five billion dollars was worth anything to him.
"Alright then. This wound hurts a bit. I think the skin tore open..." Chantelle said and stretched her arm out.
Philip sighed with relief once she finally gave in.
After treating her wounds, they carefully headed downstairs together.
Chantelle glanced at the door. Whoever had been there was now gone.
Then, she finally asked the question that had been bothering her.
"Daniel... he’s going to be fine, right?"
"Uh..." Philip froze at her question.
What did she mean by that? He thought she was angry with Daniel. But now she sounded worried.
Was that a good sign? His head filled with questions.
"Is he badly hurt? Does he have a fever?" Chantelle asked again.
When Philip didn’t reply, she became more anxious and accidentally scratched her wound.
"Ouch..."
"Hey, don’t move! Daniel is fine!" Philip said quickly. He had decided to follow Daniel’s request and hide the truth for now.
"Really?"
"Of course! I never lie." Philip looked straight at her, pretending to be serious.
Chantelle stared him back, speechless. Something didn’t feel right, but she had no proof.
In the living room downstairs, Daniel slowly came down the stairs, holding the railing for support.
Ashton rushed over and helped him sit on the sofa.
"Sir, are you hurt?"
"I’m fine. Just a small injury. Did you deal with Lone Wolf?"
"Yes. He’s locked up at the base."
"Good. Let’s go see him now."
"Sir, you’re injured. You can see him tomorrow. I’ll watch him myself. Don’t worry he can’t run away."
"The medicine in Chantelle’s body needs answers. I need to ask him now. There’s no time to waste!"
Not knowing the risk of Chantelle’s condition scared Daniel the most. He couldn’t afford to put Chantelle in danger. If he could get the answer directly from Lone Wolf’s mouth, she’d be safer.
"Sir!"
"Don’t stop me! I know what I’m doing." Daniel stood up and headed toward the villa’s exit.
"Wait..."
Ashton felt a headache coming on. Daniel looked pale but still wanted to go out. Ashton thought about stopping him when a voice called out from behind.
"Daniel Wilson!"
"Yes, Mrs. Wilson. Do you need something?" Daniel turned around and smiled, though his face was pale.
"I’m hungry. Make me a pancake," Chantelle said casually.
Daniel didn’t move right away. Chantelle gave him another chance. "What are you waiting for? You said you want to apologize. Are you going to say sorry without doing anything?"
"Okay. I’ll make it now." Daniel looked at her and smiled warmly. Then, he turned and walked to the kitchen.
Ashton, seeing Daniel obey so quickly, secretly bowed to Chantelle in his heart.
As expected, only Mrs. Wilson could make Mr. Wilson obey.
"Mrs. Wilson, this is a new phone for you. The card has been fixed, and it’s ready to use," Ashton said politely as he stood beside her.
The phone had been prepared earlier, but he had forgotten to give it to her. He now handed it over with both hands.
"Thank you," Chantelle said as she took the phone.
"You’re welcome. It’s my honor to serve you. Just let me know if you need anything."
"Okay."
"Get some rest. I’m going to help Sir with the pancake."
"Okay."
Chantelle watched Ashton walk away. He seemed more thoughtful than before.
Is it just in my head?
As she thought about it, she turned on her phone. All the apps she used were there, just like before.
