Chapter 162: I Heard You Tried To Murder My Wife

Chapter 162: Chapter 162: I Heard You Tried To Murder My Wife

An hour later, Ruby was released. She looked like a wreck. Her hair was messy, and her clothes were filthy. It was clear she had been through a lot.

She looked like she had aged ten years overnight.

Ruby thought James had come to bail her out. She looked around for him outside the police station.

But a group of men suddenly appeared and grabbed her.

"Who are you? Where are you taking me?" she shouted.

The men looked like bodyguards. They didn’t say a word. They dragged her into a car parked nearby.

"Who are you? Where are you taking me? Do you know who I am? I’m Mrs. Bently! The Bently family won’t let you get away with this!" Ruby yelled in a trembling voice.

She was terrified.

Suddenly, the man sitting beside her slapped her across the face.

"Shut up! Who do you think you are? Who do you think the Bently family is?"

"How dare you hit me! You—"

Ruby tried to fight back, but another slap landed on her face.

Her cheek turned bright red, and five fingerprints were left behind. The sting burned, and the shame cut even deeper.

The bodyguards stared at her coldly. They didn’t look like they would stop.

Ruby had no choice but to stay silent.

She bit her lip hard to hold back her anger.

How dare they hit me? Are they crazy? Ruby thought.

The car drove straight to Brittin Memorial Garden.

Ruby’s heart skipped a beat when she was dragged out. She was shocked to notice the road signs. She was at Brittin Memorial Garden.

Doesn’t this place belong to the Wilson family? Why bring me here?

"Mrs. Bently, this way. Mr. Wilson is waiting for you," lead bodyguard Vin said when he saw Ruby step back.

"No, I want to go home! I want to go home!" Ruby shouted, trying to run.

But one of the bodyguards grabbed her shirt and pulled her back.

"Take her up. If she resists, throw her down the mountain," Vin said coldly. Then he turned and began walking up the path.

At the top of Brittin Memorial Garden, Daniel placed a bouquet of flowers in front of Wesley’s grave.

He stood tall and gave a respectful bow.

"Grandpa, I have good news. Chantelle is still alive. I’ll bring her here next time."

As he looked at Wesley’s photo, it felt like Wesley was smiling.

He must be happy to know Chantelle survived.

"But she’s not the same obedient girl anymore. She’s smart and quick-witted," Daniel said with a small smile, thinking of the moment he saw her.

He remembered the feeling he had when she walked past him. She seemed familiar. He never thought it was really her. Luckily, he recognized her before it was too late.

Daniel let out a quiet sigh. If they hadn’t crossed paths that day, he might have lost her forever.

Chantelle had changed her look on purpose so he wouldn’t recognize her. Thinking about it now, it made him feel sad.

"Grandpa, I’m lucky I found her again. I’ll treat her well this time. If anyone tries to hurt her, I won’t let it slide. You’d want that too, right, Grandpa?"

Daniel squatted down and gently brushed the leaves off the grave. He carefully talked to Wesley’s picture.

Ashton stood nearby, and tears filled his eyes.

After all these years, Daniel was finally speaking to Wesley.

Wesley had been gone for a long time. Daniel had always been sad, but he never showed it.

Every year on the anniversary, he visited the grave silently and left right away. He never stayed long. He never said a word.

But today, Daniel finally talked from his heart.

Somehow, Ashton felt deeply moved.

The Mr. Wilson I once knew had come back and that’s all because of Mrs. Wilson.

"Mr. Wilson, Mrs. Bently is here," Ashton said softly.

As Ashton wiped his tears, Vin and the bodyguards brought Ruby to the grave.

"Let go of me! I can walk on my own!" Ruby shouted.

Daniel slowly turned around. His eyes were cold and sharp like ice. He stared at Ruby, who was now kneeling on the ground, shaking like she had seen a ghost.

"Mr... Mr. Wilson, why did you have your men bring me here? We’re family," Ruby said with a shaky voice. She tried to smile, but it looked forced.

"Mrs. Bently," Daniel said in a calm but chilling voice, "I heard you tried to murder my wife?"

"I think there’s been a misunderstanding. Chantelle is my daughter. Why would I try to hurt her?"

Ruby felt a little relieved when she realized Daniel was asking about Chantelle. She had been terrified just moments ago. She thought he had found out about the past.

Since Chantelle was still alive and unharmed, Ruby believed it would be easier to explain.

Daniel wouldn’t do anything to her.

"I know I wasn’t good to Chantelle before, and she’s upset with me. If you want to stand up for her, I won’t argue," Ruby said seriously and let out a deep sigh.

As long as Daniel didn’t bring up the past, Ruby felt relieved. She stood up and began to defend herself.

"I have proof. Do you still want to deny it?"

"Well, I was just too angry last night. How could Chantelle treat her father like that? As her mother, I had to teach her a lesson, right? But instead of reflecting, she fooled me with a dummy! I got mad and pulled the tube, that’s all! I didn’t think she’d use this against me. I’m her mother! It’s my fault she turned out this way. Please try to understand her," Ruby said, pretending to be a caring mother. She kept blaming Chantelle for things she never did.

Even when Kate made mistakes, Ruby always pushed the blame onto Chantelle and made Roman believe it.

"Oh, so it’s all Chantelle’s fault? And she set you up?" Daniel asked coldly.

How could she say something like that and blame everyone else?

Daniel saw right through her. He knew exactly how manipulative she was.

In fact, Kate was just like Ruby. She used to treat Railer the same way. Whenever she made a mistake, she blamed him instead.

Railer was still young. Kate could easily pick on him.

Now, Daniel saw the truth. Kate was no different from her mother.
