Chapter 547: Chapter 547: Miss Lu, Hello (1)
Ji Shaoyang lifted his gaze to her. "You take the call first."
Wen Qiao nodded, turned away, and with a calm yet strained voice, said, "Brother..."
"In an hour, I want to see you at the old place. Do I need to teach you what should be said and what shouldn’t?"
"I understand."
She immediately hung up the phone.
"What’s wrong?" Ji Shaoyang looked at her. "Your brother is looking for you?"
"Yeah. Can I leave work early?"
He laughed. "Of course, you can. However, what does your brother do in Manchester, or should I invite him for a meal?"
"No need," Wen Qiao hurriedly said. "He doesn’t like dealing with Chinese people. Let’s forget it."
Ji Shaoyang was taken aback but nodded. "Alright. But, what were you about to say? What happened to you that day?"
"Nothing." Wen Qiao, recalling Cesar’s words from earlier, forced a few strands of a bitter smile. "I feel like the incident that day was all my carelessness."
After getting back to her desk, Wen Qiao quickly packed her things and contacted Lu Wanwan, arranging to meet now.
On her way, she kept looking at her phone, feeling as if he could peer into her heart and call her at any moment to warn her.
Was it just an accident earlier?
Or does he constantly watch her, aware of everything she says?
By four-thirty in the afternoon, Wen Qiao arrived at the place she had agreed to meet Lu Wanwan.
She cautiously glanced at Lu Wanwan’s expression, which seemed very calm, as if she hadn’t been affected by the scandal at all.
However, within that calmness, there was an air of indifference that wasn’t there before.
Suddenly, Wen Qiao realized the purpose of her visit.
"This time is perfect for eating. What would you like?" Lu Wanwan casually surveyed the surroundings. The intersection of busy streets had quite a few suitable restaurants nearby.
"No need." Wen Qiao took a deep breath, as if she had made some resolution. "Wanwan, anything you want to say, say it here. Don’t go into any enclosed spaces."
"Enclosed spaces?" She looked at Wen Qiao’s timid demeanor. "Alright. Who is it? Tell me what happened, and as long as it’s not a big deal with you, I won’t tell Ji Shaoyang."
Wen Qiao gave a faint smile, looking at the people rushing by on the street. "Since I’ve said so much, I’m prepared for the consequences. Wanwan, I’m sorry. My brother made me do it. I don’t know why he did it, nor what he might do to you."
Lu Wanwan was taken aback, recalling the man she had seen that day, cold to the point of seeming devoid of human emotion.
"I cannot defy him. Between him and me, it’s not at all what you think." Wen Qiao clenched her hands into fists, tightening her grip until her nails dug deep into her flesh. "I regret it very much, but I had no choice. Later on, I called Gu Annan, hoping he could save you before anything bad happened. I didn’t expect it would still end up like this."
"Who is he?" Lu Wanwan stepped closer. "Who is your brother, and has he been hunting someone down lately?"
"He and I are not borne of the same mother. His mother comes from French nobility, while I... I’m just a bastard child. My mother grew up in Manchester. When my father brought me to France, I was always considered a disgrace. We don’t get along, so there are many things he wouldn’t tell me. As for hunting someone, killing is not strange to him."
A black limousine raced up and stopped beside them.
The back window rolled down to reveal that coldly handsome face, his eyes landing on Lu Wanwan. "Qiao, you’ve come early. However, it seems you’ve brought me a gift."
