Chapter 68: Chapter 68: He’s Such a Jerk

Ye Yan’s unyielding words had convinced Fu Xingzhou to calm down and deal with the situation later, but she found that, in the end, she was the one who couldn’t stay calm.

The taxi passed the Ruins of St. Paul, heading straight along Yinhuangzi Avenue.

She had only wanted to step out for some fresh air, but before she realized it, she had arrived at the entrance to Pujing Casino.

Situated in a bustling district, Pujing Casino resembled a huge, glittering golden crown.

Once inside, the opulence was blinding, with the clamor of crowds and thick walls of gamblers around the tables, while waiters carrying champagne flitted back and forth.

On her first visit here, Fu Xingzhou had seemed like a king who could command everything, and before him, her only bargaining chip had been a gambler’s daring.

A sharp-eyed Gambling Middleman spotted her and approached to inquire.

When Ye Yan said she was looking for someone, the middleman just smiled, gestured for her to proceed, and continued scouting for his next target.

These Gambling Middlemen were like bookies, attracting clients, sometimes lending gambling funds, all to earn a commission for their sustenance.

Ye Yan actually didn’t want to come seeking Fu Xingzhou; it was just a subconscious choice to stop here.

As she hesitated, contemplating whether to take a look inside, someone gently tapped her shoulder from behind, "Dr. Ye?"

It was a very beautiful young girl, around her twenties.

Ye Yan remembered her, though the name had long been forgotten.

Back then, when she was still working on the general ward at the hospital, she had performed an appendectomy on the young girl, who was talkative, lively, and cheerful.

"I’m Li Xi, do you remember me, Dr. Ye?"

"Of course, how’s the scar healing?"

"Really well, it’s almost invisible now. Dr. Ye is amazing," Li Xi gave her a thumbs up, "Do you like gambling too?"

In Li Xi’s eyes, Ye Yan was the kind of staid doctor who followed every rule to the letter, someone who definitely would not frequent bars or casinos.

So seeing her in this glittering den of vice felt particularly jarring.

"I’m here to meet a friend." Ye Yan smiled and asked, "And you?"

"A friend called me over to play," Li Xi adjusted her backpack strap and playfully stuck out her tongue, "Luckily, the dormitory isn’t locked yet."

Bubbling with youthful energy, the bag she was carrying was worth at least two hundred thousand. It wasn’t something a regular college student could afford.

Ye Yan thought back to her college days when she had immersed herself in the library every day to finish credits early; the outside world seemed irrelevant to her then.

Now she wondered whether she had missed out on some colorful experiences in life.

"Dr. Ye, do you know how to get to the VIP room?"

Ye Yan had been here before to pick up Fu Xingzhou and sort of remembered the way, "The row of red doors up front, turn right and it’s the VIP room."

Li Xi thanked her and then walked away, her figure in white sneakers and a miniskirt gradually disappearing into the crowd.

Just as Ye Yan was about to leave, she suddenly stepped on something hard, a crystal charm that had been hanging from Li Xi’s backpack.

Unaware she had dropped the charm, Li Xi followed Ye Yan’s directions, making her way to the VIP room, and found VIP booth 8.

The door was ajar, allowing a view of the bustling gambling scene inside. She immediately recognized Liang Zheng, who had summoned her.

"Mr. Liang."

Liang Zheng didn’t typically flaunt his status as the son of Hong Kong’s richest man. In Li Xi’s view, he was just a very wealthy guy who was willing to splurge on women extravagantly.

She wasn’t after a love that lasts forever, just a fruitful rendezvous.

Her voice was crisp with a touch of wildness, causing everyone in the room to look up simultaneously.

She was a picture of youthful vitality, her face full of collagen, ambition sparkling in her eyes, her lips curving in a bold and brazen smile when she spoke.

Unpretentious and single-minded.

"Here comes the person." Liang Zheng waved at her and then pointed to Fu Xingzhou, "Come here, call him Second Brother."

"Second Brother." Li Xi walked up to Fu Xingzhou and crisply called out.

"Serve Second Brother well tonight." Liang Zheng pushed Li Xi from behind, and she stumbled, almost falling onto Fu Xingzhou.

She wasn’t one for affectation either; hearing Liang Zheng’s command, she knew who was in charge that night and whom she should attend to.

Taking advantage of her stumble, Li Xi ended up sitting directly on Fu Xingzhou’s thigh.

The man’s right hand was still pinching a cigar, and the curling smoke complimented the clear, cedar scent on him.

"How’s Second Brother’s luck tonight?" Li Xi, acting familiar, wrapped her arms around Fu Xingzhou’s neck and glanced at the playing cards in his left hand.

"Get off," he said coldly, with two freezing words.

Although he still looked elegant and his expression was indifferent, the chill made Li Xi reflexively let go.

She was smart and knew that in these circles, the tempers of the big shots were fickle; when he said to get off, she wouldn’t stay a second longer.

Li Xi hopped off Fu Xingzhou’s leg and cast a look at Liang Zheng.

Liang Zheng smiled and pulled her into his arms: "Second Brother’s not in a good mood today, don’t bother him, come, Brother Liang will show you a good time."

Outside the door, seeing Li Xi sitting on Fu Xingzhou’s thigh, Ye Yan handed the crystal pendant to the security guard, asking him to pass it on.

On her way out, she ran into the gambling middleman, who had snagged a tourist from inland.

The middleman spoke fluent Mandarin, and the tourist nodded in satisfaction.

Even though this place was known as a den of vice, people would still come, one after another.

Just like her, fully aware that Fu Xingzhou was a playboy who’d been through many flowers, yet stubbornly wanting to confirm her own naivety.

She thought he would be as mopey and insecure as herself, willing to go against her principles and run out in the middle of the night.

She claimed she needed some fresh air, but deep down, she was clear; she wanted to see if Fu Xingzhou was also restless and edgy for her.

As it turned out, she was being overly sentimental.

When she got intimate with a man, it was called messing around, but when he hugged and held women, was it just socializing?

Pfft, don’t be such a hypocrite.

Ye Yan walked out of the casino and called Meng Tian.

Half an hour later, Meng Tian let Ye Yan into her place, "Did you guys have a fight?"

She had just gone to bed not long before she received a call from her best friend; the tone suggested a lovers’ quarrel, and that she had run here to hide.

"The lock at home is broken," Ye Yan lied with her eyes wide open.

Meng Tian yawned, "Couldn’t you still go back to Yuqiao? Hasn’t your Mr. Fu come home?"

"Where do I sleep?"

Great, just ignore the question.

Meng Tian’s place was a small apartment, but it had an attic made into a decent-size loft, enough to turn into a one bedroom with a living room.

Ye Yan slept in the loft.

As soon as she lay down, Meng Tian squeezed in with her blanket, "Tell me the truth, why did you two fight?"

Ye Yan closed her eyes and pretended to be asleep.

Meng Tian tickled her waist, and only then did Ye Yan laugh and dodge to the side. After some playful tussling, she recounted the events of the day.

Meng Tian stroked her chin, "If there’s no misunderstanding in all this, your Mr. Fu is really a jerk."
