Mr. Bigshot Is Obsessed with His Hidden-Marriage Wife -
Chapter 51: Give Him a Gift
Chapter 51: Chapter 51: Give Him a Gift
Meng Tian gazed at the open skylight, the sky gradually darkened, the air in the suburbs so fresh that it made one forget their worries.
As for her feud with Tang Jingyao, it could be traced back to his girlfriend, Jiang Ying.
Tang Jingyao was once recognized within their circle as a good man—wealthy and powerful but not a playboy, clean to the extreme with just one official girlfriend by his side.
Jiang Ying came from an ordinary background, so much so that it could be described as tragic.
Her parents divorced when she was young, and her mother couldn’t afford to send her to college, so she found work in a gallery right after high school graduation. Because of her exceptional artistic talent, the gallery owner took notice and patiently nurtured her.
It was at an art exhibition that Tang Jingyao met Jiang Ying and quickly initiated a fiery pursuit.
After they became a couple, they, too, faced opposition from the Tang Family, but Tang Jingyao somehow managed to persuade his parents, allowing the two to continue their relationship.
Their relationship held up very well, and at one point, they even reached the stage where marriage was under discussion.
But good times don’t last long; Jiang Ying’s mother suffered long-term domestic violence at the hands of her second husband, who, in addition to that, harbored ill intentions towards Jiang Ying and even attempted to assault her.
This incident was discovered in time by Mrs. Jiang, who then decided to move away with her daughter.
However, their stepfather was a vile character and continued to hassle the two of them relentlessly. In an unexpected turn of events, Mrs. Jiang accidentally killed her husband.
Initially, the case was classified as manslaughter, and Mrs. Jiang admitted to the crime.
As Jiang Ying emerged from her grief, Tang Jingyao proposed to her.
On the very day he proposed, the police descended out of the blue and took Jiang Ying away, accusing her of manslaughter.
The case had already been closed, but further investigation revealed that it was Jiang Ying who was the actual culprit behind her stepfather’s death, and Mrs. Jiang had only taken the blame to protect her daughter.
The reassessment came about because Meng Tian had doubts about the condition of the body and had applied for a second autopsy, which uncovered strong evidence that directly incriminated Jiang Ying.
Tang Jingyao made use of his connections to ensure that Jiang Ying was sentenced to only three years in prison.
With his fiancée behind bars, his meticulously planned proposal ruined, Mr. Tang was sure not to take this lying down.
If she weren’t the daughter of Meng Yusheng, she would likely have been gone without a trace by now.
That Tang Jingyao hated her made perfect sense.
Meng Tian never regretted her decision for a second autopsy; her conscience was clear.
Besides, did Tang Jingyao truly understand Jiang Ying?
"Be more careful in the future," Ye Yan worried for her safety, "He’s capable of doing anything."
"What else can I do, Ao City is only so big," Meng Tian said with a nonchalant raise of her eyebrows, "I’m waiting for him."
The tone in which Tang Jingyao left was surely harboring the brewing of a storm.
But she was a police officer, dealing with criminals and corpses on a daily basis; what was there for her to fear?
Let him come for revenge.
Meng Tian waited until it got dark, the car Meng Yusheng had sent still hadn’t arrived; a recent call informed her that the bridge leading to the club had broken and was under repair.
Meng Tian: ...
Damn you, Tang.
Originally, Meng Yusheng wanted to dispatch a private helicopter, but Meng Tian refused; she was a police officer and didn’t want to make such a big fuss. If someone captured that on camera, it would be difficult to explain to the organization.
Meng Tian didn’t pity herself either; she went into the hot spring resort, rented a private room, and had a good sleep.
By the time the bridge was fixed, it was already the next morning.
After that lesson, Meng Tian didn’t dare travel far again and returned to Ao City Peninsula to vent her frustrations in a rant to Ye Yan.
"Mr. Tang is into you, isn’t he?" Meng Tian stuffed a spoonful of rice into her mouth, unconcerned about her friend’s darkening expression. "Otherwise, why would he kiss you?"
"You call that kissing?" Meng Tian angrily pointed at her damaged lips. "That was a bite, like he wanted to bite me to death."
She had no idea how to explain it to her colleagues.
"If he really despised you, he wouldn’t even touch you."
Meng Tian chuckled, "You used to despise Fu Xingzhou, but you still let him touch you."
"Why bring me into it? Just talk about yourself," Ye Yan’s face flushed a slightly unnatural shade of red.
"Do you have a crush on him?" Meng Tian lowered her voice, her face full of gossip. At this moment, she was like a raccoon under a melon field.
Ye Yan didn’t deny it right away, and Meng Tian felt there might be a chance.
"Is he particularly vigorous in that department? Has he completely taken care of our Miss Ye, conquering both body and soul?"
"Read fewer romance novels, it will do you good." Ye Yan shook her head. "Besides, I want to give him a gift. Help me think of something."
"And you say you’re not into him, yet you’re thinking of giving him a gift."
"He helped me out with a big favor; of course, I have to thank him." If not for Fu Xingzhou, who knows what would have happened to Ye Zhun? Knowing gratitude and returning favors, how could she just let it go?
"What does he lack?"
Ye Yan thought hard and then shook her head in disappointment. "It seems like he lacks nothing."
Status, he had. Money, he had in abundance. As for women, if he so much as snapped his fingers, someone would obediently offer themselves for him to pick and choose from.
This was the reason for Ye Yan’s anxiety; she wanted to give a gift but realized that the other person didn’t seem to need anything.
If the gift was too cheap, it would be embarrassing to offer, and if it was expensive, it still wouldn’t compare to his high-end tailored items, for fear that he wouldn’t care for it.
Meng Tian’s eyes lit up with an idea. "Stop eating, I’ll take you to buy a gift."
"I have to work later." Ye Yan reluctantly shoved two more bites of rice into her mouth.
"The mall is nearby; it won’t take much of your time."
The two entered the women’s clothing section, and Ye Yan frowned. "Are you sure we haven’t gone the wrong way? He’s not a women’s clothing tycoon, he doesn’t have this hobby."
"Since the tycoon lacks nothing, we can only give something different." Meng Tian sized up her friend. "Just give yourself to him."
Ye Yan was at a loss, not understanding what her friend was getting at.
"My dear Ah Yan, you’re tall with peach-like hips, willowy waist, and chest like a glowing lantern. If you don’t make use of such a fine figure, wouldn’t it be a waste?" Meng Tian looked at the approaching saleswoman with a smile. "I want to buy that kind of lingerie."
The saleswoman, used to such matters, led the two deeper into the store with a professional smile, as such garments were naturally not displayed in a prominent place.
Ye Yan couldn’t believe such a rotten idea had come from her friend; although Meng Tian was lively, she wasn’t this open-minded.
"No way, I can’t wear that." Ye Yan was anxious and grabbed Meng Tian, ready to leave.
Facing Fu Xingzhou in such clothes would be worse than death.
"We’re already here." Meng Tian pushed her further in. "Be bold, be confident; Dr. Ye must not waste such a good figure."
Seeing her friend so determined, Ye Yan could only compromise.
Thinking to just buy something as a token gesture, after all, she wouldn’t actually wear it for Fu Xingzhou to see; she’d rather get rid of her friend first.
"These are all our latest models." The saleswoman pointed to the mannequins lined up in front of her. "Miss, feel free to try on whichever one you like."
Ye Yan barely dared to look directly at those pitifully scarce garments, whereas Meng Tian was picking them out very seriously.
"Miss Ye?" A somewhat familiar voice sounded, and when Ye Yan turned around, she saw Meng Li accompanied by a young assistant carrying a bag.
