Chapter 220: Chapter 220: Heart Torn Like a Knife Cut

Lu Changchen had just finished wiping the sweat off Meng Tian when someone called for him. He pocketed the used tissue and strode over.

Meng Tian continued to work under the scorching sun; her clothes under her white coat had long been soaked through.

Soon, Meng Tian completed the preliminary external examination of the body.

At this time, foul play had been ruled out, but the body still needed to be taken back to the police station for a more thorough autopsy.

Meng Tian finally had time to wipe the sweat beads from her forehead.

She packed up her investigation kit and walked towards the investigation vehicle not far away.

Tang Jingyao wanted to follow her, but with the police all around, his appearance would surely cause a commotion.

A while later, the police investigation car drove away, leaving only a few officers to protect the scene.

Tang Jingyao knew that after Meng Tian got back, she still had to carry out the autopsy and write the report.

This process would probably last until late into the night.

Late at night, almost everyone in the police station had left.

Meng Tian shut down her computer and organized the various files on the desk.

The sound of someone knocking on the door rang out; she thought it was Lu Changchen and without raising her head, said, "Captain Lu, you haven’t left yet?"

The autopsy confirmed that the death was due to accidental drowning or suicide; there were no signs of homicide.

Lu Changchen had already instructed someone to look for the body’s identity in the database, and they should be able to find the deceased’s family by tomorrow.

Cases like this were the simplest for them, as there was no need to solve a crime or search for a killer.

After Meng Tian asked, she realized no one replied.

She turned her head and saw a tall man standing at the door, handsome, with his usual smile replaced by exhaustion.

He seemed very tired, his complexion an unnatural shade of pale, with dark circles under his eyes as if he hadn’t slept well all night.

"How did you get in?" Meng Tian’s expression darkened.

"Tiantian, let’s talk."

Tang Jingyao knew that Meng Tian had blocked his number, so no matter how much he tried, she wouldn’t pick up.

He had no choice but to come to the police station.

"What’s there to talk about?" Meng Tian emotionlessly continued to sort her files. "Mr. Tang, have you signed the divorce agreement?"

"I do not agree to the divorce," Tang Jingyao said firmly.

Meng Tian stood up and walked over to him, "Tang Jingyao, I really don’t understand you. The woman you’ve been longing for is back, and you two can finally be together. You should end your revenge on me by now, so why can’t you let me go?"

"Indeed, at first, I wanted revenge, but later on, I had no such thoughts anymore."

"Fine, even if you’ve had a change of heart, now I’m magnanimous enough to let the two of you be. Can you at least show me some respect?"

Meng Tian tried to keep calm, "I don’t want a husband who is keeping someone on the side."

"I’m not going to support her."

Tang Jingyao’s eager rebuttal caught Meng Tian slightly off guard.

"Tiantian, can you give me some time?" he pleaded, gripping her shoulders, "Give me some time to properly handle this situation."

"Tang Jingyao, what exactly do you want to do?"

"I don’t want you to leave me, and I certainly don’t want to get a divorce." He bent down uncontrollably, wanting to kiss her lips, "When that Captain Lu was wiping your sweat, I really wanted to rush forward and beat him up."

Just seeing another man showing affection to her almost made him lose control.

He dared not imagine what he would do if she completely left his side.

"You, you were at the scene today?"

No wonder she felt like someone was watching her all the time, mistaking it for curious onlookers.

"You won’t answer my calls, you won’t give me a chance to explain, so I had to go there to find you." Tang Jingyao desperately leaned in to kiss her lips, "Tiantian, can you give me more time, please?"

He was so eager for her soft lips, her fragrant scent.

Even though she dealt with corpses all day, she was still so enticing, like a slow poison cast upon him.

Meng Tian put her hand between them, her expression cold, "Tang Jingyao, you were intimate with another woman just last night, and now you come to kiss me? It doesn’t disgust you, but it makes me nauseous."

Tang Jingyao froze.

"Sleeping with another woman while asking me to give you more time. What do you need the time for, to sleep with her a few more times?"

She pointed to the next room, where a row of refrigerators stood, "Compared to you, I’d rather trust a corpse—they at least don’t lie, don’t deceive."

Tang Jingyao opened his mouth but realized he had no explanation.

Everything from last night could very well be the truth, with Jiang Ying’s body covered in the evidence of his aggression.

She said she hated liars. Could he lie to deceive her?

Wouldn’t that be adding insult to injury?

Tang Jingyao’s reaction finally killed the last bit of hope Meng Tian had been holding onto.

She thought he might deny it all, claim it was all a misunderstanding, or someone else’s scheming.

But his silence meant admission.

Last night, he indeed slept with Jiang Ying.

Imagining him entwined with another woman in bed, Meng Tian felt a rage burning within her yet struggled to maintain her composure.

"You may leave now." Ye Yan turned away, "You tore up the divorce agreement, didn’t you? No worries, I have plenty of them. If you tear them up, I can just print more. I will keep printing them until you sign."

"Tiantian..."

"Don’t force me to tell you to get lost."

Tang Jingyao tried to say something more, but Lu Changchen’s voice intervened, "Mr. Tang, this is a police station. Are you here to report a crime? If not, please leave and don’t interrupt police work."

Tang Jingyao’s gaze clashed with Lu Changchen’s, sparks flying between them.

"Captain Lu is quite authoritative. Have you forgotten how you were nearly trapped last time at the club?"

Lu Changchen replied sternly, "I’ve thanked Mr. Tang for that incident, but justice is justice, and personal matters are personal. If Mr. Tang causes a disturbance at the police station, I have the right to intervene."

"Captain Lu, what’s with the pretense of enforcing the law in front of me?" Tang Jingyao sneered, "Isn’t it just because you have your eye on my wife? Eager for us to divorce so you can move in?"

"Tang Jingyao." Meng Tian pulled him forcefully away from Lu Changchen, "Don’t go too far. Captain Lu is my colleague; don’t spout nonsense here."

"Whether I’m spouting nonsense, he knows very well."

Lu Changchen’s face flushed with anger, but he just glared sternly at him.

Meng Tian didn’t want the situation to escalate and could only pull Tang Jingyao towards the exit, "If you want to go crazy, do it outside. If you make a scene here, how am I going to work in the future?"

"Go home with me." Tang Jingyao grabbed her hand and drew her to his chest, "You don’t want me to talk about it here, so let’s go home and talk."

"I’m not going back." Meng Tian’s refusal was very clear.

Why should she go back? To watch him show affection with Jiang Ying?

He said he couldn’t stand seeing Captain Lu wipe her sweat.

Did he ever think how much more heart-wrenching it was for her when she saw Jiang Ying walk out of the guest bedroom?
