Chapter 34: Plan’s Set
Chapter - A Sect Without Cultivation?
Ray stared at Nyxiel, his voice laced with disbelief. "You’re not serious, right?"
Nyxiel sighed, crossing her arms. "It’ll be fine. We can work on everything else buildings, formations, disciples inheritance can come later."
Ray exhaled sharply, rubbing his forehead. "Fine. Let’s assume we can somehow handle everything else. But what about the most important part the inheritance?"
Nyxiel remained silent.
Ray narrowed his eyes. "You said there’s nothing in the Library Pavilion."
Nyxiel hesitated before nodding. "Yes. We don’t have any. No cultivation methods, no techniques."
Ray froze for a moment before his lips twitched. "...You’re joking."
Nyxiel sighed again, shaking her head. "I wish I was."
Ray closed his eyes for a brief second, his patience hanging by a thread.
In the world of cultivation, two fundamental aspects determined a cultivator’s strength and progress:
Cultivation Methods: The core techniques that allow cultivators to absorb, refine, and circulate Qi or spiritual energy. They determine breakthrough speed, energy type, and physical enhancement.
Cultivation Techniques: Martial skills used in combat, movement, and defense. They can be elemental, weapon-based, or body-enhancing.
Simply put:
Cultivation Methods = Foundation & Energy Control
Cultivation Techniques = Combat & Utility Skills
For a sect, the better the inheritance, the stronger the disciples. A sect without a proper inheritance was doomed to fail before it even started.
Ray opened his eyes and let out a deep breath.
"Let’s say we somehow figure out cultivation techniques later. Disciples might be patient enough to wait for those. But cultivation methods? Those are necessary for growth. The better the cultivation method, the stronger a disciple becomes. If you don’t even have that, why would anyone join?"
Nyxiel didn’t argue.
Ray’s voice dropped lower. "You also need resources. If disciples have to find their own materials, hunt their own beasts, and cultivate without any guidance then why the hell would they even bother joining a sect? They might as well practice alone."
He shook his head. "How can someone be this" He cut himself off before finishing the sentence.
He wanted to open this woman’s head and see what was inside.
"Fine. You’ve cultivated to a high level, right?" Ray crossed his arms. "You must have your own cultivation methods and techniques. We can at least start with those and gather more later."
Nyxiel, however, shook her head. "No, I don’t."
Ray blinked. "What?"
She looked him dead in the eye. "I don’t know any cultivation techniques. At all."
Ray’s expression went blank. "You’re lying."
Nyxiel’s face remained neutral. "I’m not."
Ray just stared at her, waiting for her to take it back.
She didn’t.
"A cultivator without any cultivation techniques?" His voice sounded dull, as if his mind refused to process the absurdity.
Nyxiel simply nodded.
Ray rubbed his face, sighing. "If you don’t want to share them, just say so. At least come up with a better excuse."
Nyxiel didn’t even blink. "I’m not lying. I truly don’t know any cultivation techniques."
Ray’s patience was hanging by a thread.
"Then explain your speed. I’ve seen you move faster than anyone I’ve ever met. You’re telling me that’s not a speed-type technique?"
Nyxiel shook her head. "That’s just my physical speed, not a movement technique."
Ray’s expression darkened. "Fine. Then what about your ice-based attacks? I’ve seen you freeze my adept-level beast and even create an ice sword. Are you seriously saying that wasn’t a technique either?"
Nyxiel’s answer was calm. "It wasn’t. That’s just my special physique at work."
Ray raised an eyebrow. "Special physique?"
[Special Physiques
In cultivation, special physiques were extremely rare body constitutions that granted unique powers, talents, or advantages. Unlike normal cultivators, who relied on techniques and years of training, those with special physiques had innate abilities that set them apart.
Some appeared once in a thousand years, while others were common but still powerful.
Having a special physique gave a cultivator an unfair advantage enhanced speed, comprehension, strength, or even control over elements.
Elemental physiques were among the rarest. Fire, wind, and earth were already rare. Ice-types? Even rarer.
For someone to be born with an Ice Physique, their talent was undeniable.
Ray slowly looked her up and down, reevaluating her entirely.
"An ice-type physique that must be a high-rank physique."
Most cultivators struggled for years to gain basic control over an element. But if she could control ice at that level naturally...
Ray’s thoughts spun. "She’s not just any cultivator. If what she’s saying is true, she’s a one-in-a-million-year talent."
But then his eyes narrowed again.
"Even if you have a rare physique, I don’t believe for a second that you’ve never learned a single technique."
Nyxiel remained silent.
Ray smirked slightly. "Alright. What about that technique you used against me before? When I couldn’t move?"
Nyxiel tilted her head slightly. "Oh, that?" She waved a hand dismissively. "I just condensed the water molecules around you including those on your skin to freeze you in place."
Bruhhhh
Ray’s mouth opened slightly before he closed it again.
He lifted a finger and pointed at her face. "You.. that... That’s insane."
For once, even he was impressed.
It wasn’t easy to control elemental forces on such a precise level. Even thinking about manipulating something so delicate was already a challenge let alone executing it in actual combat.
Ray exhaled, shaking his head. "So you’re really telling me you don’t know any techniques."
Nyxiel nodded.
Ray clenched his jaw. "You’re wasting your talent. I won’t ask why you haven’t learned anything, but at the very least you must give something to the disciples."
Just because she didn’t need techniques didn’t mean others didn’t.
"What about cultivation methods?" he asked. "You must have one, right? You can’t advance to higher realms without a proper cultivation method."
Nyxiel nodded. "Yes, I have one. But no I can’t share it."
Her tone left no room for argument.
Ray opened his mouth then sighed. "Of course."
Nyxiel watched him before offering, "I can teach them combat skills."
Ray looked at her, his expression unimpressed.
"That’s great and all, but a sect without cultivation resources isn’t a sect."
He facepalmed, shaking his head.
"I don’t even know why you thought of creating a sect in the first place. Seems like a waste of time especially for someone as ’intelligent’ as you," he mocked.
Nyxiel, unfazed, placed a hand on Ray’s shoulder, her face completely blank.
"Well, you’re the Vice Sect Leader, so I’d like to give you the honor of handling these kinds of small problems. I believe in you."
Then, without another word, she patted his shoulder and turned away.
Ray’s lips twitched. You... u... you...! He wanted to punch that ugly face of hers, but
Sighhh
"Sect Master is really useless. I don’t get paid enough for this."
Shaking his head, he decided to just leave it. Why did I even have expectations?
Nyxiel, already halfway inside, called out over her shoulder,
"Yes, yes, you’re the best. But don’t forget, next month is the Disciple Meet held by all the major sects. Disciples from all over the land will gather, hoping to join the best sects."
Her voice turned serious for a moment.
"All the sect representatives will be there to take in new disciples and that’s our biggest opportunity to scam... cough recruit talented newcomers. So make sure to prepare the best and most attractive resources to lure uh, welcome them in. I trust you."
Ray raised a brow. He didn’t trust her at all.
"Oh, and one more thing," Nyxiel added
"This place is in the middle of the Backwoods Mountain region. There are strong magical beasts everywhere. If you’re thinking about running away, don’t. The nearest city is 20 miles north, and trust me, getting there safely won’t be easy. That said, if you really want to leave, I won’t stop you."
And with that, she disappeared inside the sect, her excited voice echoing from a distance.
"Let me see my Sect Master Hall! I bet it looks amazing!"
Ray stared at her retreating figure, black lines appearing all over his forehead. "This idiot"
Sigh
"Forget it. I’ll just focus on gathering disciples before the meeting next month."
His eyes gleamed with determination. By then, he would definitely grow stronger. With his cultivation speed thirty-two times faster than normal, he was bound to make progress. His other skills would improve, too.
"For now, I should try catching some beasts for backup strength and maybe upgrade this snake’s cultivation as well."
He glanced at his shoulder, where a small, white adept-level snake curled up.
"Alright, let’s get to work."
With a deep breath, Ray stepped forward only to slam face-first into something invisible.
Thud!
His vision blurred for a second. He blinked.
He couldn’t see anything, but he could feel it.
This was
"A sect-protective formation?!?"
A moment of silence. Then realization hit.
His face twisted in fury.
"YOU MOTHERFU!"
He screamed toward the Sect Master’s hall, fists clenched.
"YOU FORGOT TO GIVE ME PERMISSION, YOU IDIOT WOMAN!"
