Chapter 926: 912, Adding Frost to Snow (3) Chapter 926: 912, Adding Frost to Snow (3) “Bai Jue, how much of a dose did you just administer?” Jian Luo asked.
After pondering for a while, Bai Jue said, “An ordinary person should be able to sleep for half a day, but if it’s Quan Jingwu, I can’t make any guarantees.”
“Everyone, continue the search,” Black Jack commanded.
The crowd nodded, took some water, and then went back out to search.
Y Country
The gentle sunlight filtered through the window, casting a glimmering halo on the floor.
In the silent room, a faint breath was barely audible, almost drowned out by the cicadas chirping outside.
“Second Young Master.”
The sound of conversation came from the doorway; the next second, the door swung open, and a man’s long legs strode in, his gaze quickly locking onto the unconscious woman on the bed.
He walked briskly to the bedside, his eyes lowered to the woman’s pale face, his thin, aqua-colored lips pressed tightly together.
“A’er, what did the doctor say?”
“Our people found her in the woods around the beach. She was already unconscious when they discovered her, and the doctor has removed the silver needle from her shoulder,” A’er reported truthfully.
“When can she wake up?” Shen Yan asked the most crucial question.
At this point, A’er hesitated, then continued, “She jumped from the top of the cliff. She has multiple fractures and abrasions. Due to the silver needle, she has been soaking in the seawater for too long. Fluid in her lungs has caused her to have a high fever these past few days. The doctor said it’s still uncertain when she will wake up.”
Hearing this, Shen Yan frowned, his gaze inadvertently catching sight of the plaster on her leg and the heavy bandages, making him feel even more regretful for not having protected her well.
“Call the doctor in.”
“Yes.”
A’er turned and walked out.
Shen Yan looked down at her, touching the bandage wrapped around her head, and slowly reached out to touch it lightly.
“I’m sorry!”
I had resolved to protect you, but still I was a step too late.
“Second Young Master, the doctors are here.”
A’er came back with several doctors in tow.
Upon seeing Shen Yan, the doctors greeted him deferentially, “Second Young Master!” He was a VIP they could not afford to neglect.
“Tell me everything about her condition,” Shen Yan said as he turned around, his light eyes fixed on the group of doctors, “and don’t tell me there is no way.”
“Second Young Master, this Miss’s injuries are really severe. Her fever has only gradually subsided this morning; it’s hard to say when she can wake up,” the middle-aged woman at the front said.
“Spare no expense to cure her,” Shen Yan commanded sternly.
“Yes,” the doctors replied, quivering.
“You may all leave now.” Noting that Shen Yan was not in a good mood, A’er gestured for the doctors to step out.
Seeing no objection from Shen Yan, the doctors scurried out like they had been granted amnesty.
“Second Young Master, why don’t you hand her over to Quan Jingwu and the others?” A’er asked his question once the doctors had left. Now that the eldest master was busy managing the company’s affairs and temporarily had no time to pay attention to their movements here, it was only a matter of time before he would find out that Jian Qing was hidden here.
Shen Yan pulled up a chair, sat down by the bed, and began slowly, “Jian Qing is unconscious; my brother will certainly take advantage of this to harm her again. Once she wakes up, I will naturally send her back, but for now, at least I need to ensure she has the ability to protect herself.”
Due to the corporate secret leaks, his relationship with his brother had almost reached freezing point—they were at loggerheads. If his brother found out that Jian Qing was with him, he would do everything in his power to take her away; Jian Qing was unconscious now, and Shen Yan couldn’t take that risk.
A’er nodded in understanding.
“Has my brother made any movements in the past few days?”
“The eldest young master returned to the island, and all our people at the Beijing base have been withdrawn by him. He must be wary of Quan Jingwu,” A’er said.
“Arrange things here; we should also head back to the island. Staying here too long will sooner or later arouse my brother’s suspicions.”
“Understood.”
…
Ever since the news of Jian Qing’s disappearance spread, the Quan Family mansion lost its usual laughter and chatter, the most heard being the cries of the two little treasures.
Without anyone noticing, Quan Jingwu hadn’t come home for half a month, with the two treasures being looked after by Rhee and her entourage the entire time.
The Jian elders did come back to see the little ones, staying a day or two before leaving again to search for Jian Qing’s whereabouts.
In the dead of night, the quiet was disrupted by hurried footsteps on the stairs.
“Ahao, come out quick.” Rhee pushed open the half-closed door, calling out to Quan Hao in the bedroom.
Quan Hao, who was about to change into his pajamas, hurried out when he heard his beloved wife’s anxious voice, “What’s the matter? Why such a rush?”
“Seventeen and Nineteen have fevers; go bring the doctor here quickly.” Rhee grabbed his arm, frantic like an ant on a hot pan.
“Weren’t they fine during dinner?” Quan Hao’s face changed, his eyes betraying a hint of shock.
“No time to talk, bringing the doctor over is what’s important,” Rhee said.
“Alright, you go take care of Seventeen and them, I’ll go find the doctor right now,” Quan Hao patted her shoulder and quickly ran downstairs.
Rhee turned and ran upstairs, while Quan Hao’s commotion alerted Quan’s elders below who followed the noise, heading straight for Quan Jingwu’s bedroom.
“How can they suddenly have a fever?” Quan’s grandmother held Nineteen, looking at the little one’s flushed face with great heartache.
“So hot.” Yifei came over, reaching out to touch Nineteen’s forehead. The temperature she felt made her panic.
“Could they have caught a cold?”
Now with their third sister-in-law missing and the third brother not at home, and both treasures falling sick, it really was…
“Mommy, want Mommy.” Seventeen cried out, his appetite having been poor for several days, his cherubic face had lost much of its fullness.
“Seventeen, good boy, don’t cry,” Rhee held him and soothed him. However, the little one hadn’t seen Jian Qing for nearly half a month, and now with the fever making him miserable, he yearned even more for his parents.
“Daddy, find Daddy, find Mommy.” Nineteen’s burning little hands flailed about, his face turning red, tears sprung forth like they cost nothing at all.
Nineteen wanted his Mommy’s embrace, his Mommy.
Everyone watching the two treasures in distress felt a sourness in their hearts.
“Here they are, the doctor’s here.”
Quan Hao dragged the doctor in, who, being hauled along, was almost dropping his medical kit from his trembling hands in fright.
“Hurry up and check them out,” Quan’s grandfather urged.
After steadying himself and catching his breath, the doctor said, “Madam Quan, please lay the children on the bed so I can examine them.”
Hearing this, the grandmother and Rhee quickly laid the two treasures on the bed, making space for the doctor.
Seventeen and Nineteen struggled to sit up, their small chubby hands waving, not allowing the doctor to approach. In the end, it was Quan Hao and Mingxuan who came forward to hold the little ones, letting the doctor check them.
