Chapter 902: 888, A Moment of Pique (2) Chapter 902: 888, A Moment of Pique (2) “Necklace?”
Zhan Mingyan was momentarily stunned before quickly grasping the situation, “You come inside first. It’s so hot outside, have a glass of water to avoid getting heatstroke.”
“No, I must find the necklace quickly. It’s very important to Bai Jue,” Jian Luo declined.
Zhan Mingyan bit her lip lightly. So the necklace truly had a special meaning to him, otherwise, Jian Luo wouldn’t be in such a rush to find it.
She thought for a moment before saying, “You don’t need to look for it, the necklace is with me.”
Jian Luo smiled, “That’s a relief.”
“Come in and have a glass of water,” Zhan Mingyan said.
“Okay.”
Jian Luo followed her into the flower shop. The cool air swirling around him made it feel revitalizing as he let out a breath of relief.
“So handsome, that guy looks like San Yue.” Seeing Jian Luo, Xiaoqing could hardly move her feet, her eyes nearly turning into stars.
“It’s not just resemblance, it is San Yue himself,” Xiaoling clasped her hands together, excitedly saying, “I never thought I would get to see San Yue up close like this. He’s even more handsome in person than on TV.”
“Exactly.”
“Jian Luo, sit here,” Zhan Mingyan said as she poured water.
Jian Luo picked a spot at random to sit down and took the glass of water she handed him, “Thank you.”
“Jian Luo, how is he?” Hesitating for a moment, Zhan Mingyan still couldn’t help but ask.
Jian Luo looked up to drink water and upon hearing her query, a trace of a smile crossed his eyes, “Are you talking about Bai Jue? He’s fine. He just has a bit of a fever and isn’t eating, locking himself in his room to sleep, that’s all.”
“Why is he still feverish, and why won’t he eat?” Zhan Mingyan immediately lost her composure and asked without thinking.
Hadn’t she given him medicine twice already? Why hadn’t the fever subsided? He was a doctor himself, why couldn’t he take care of himself properly?
Jian Luo offered a faint smile, looking at her with a trace of amusement in his eyes.
“How do you know Bai Jue has a fever?”
Meeting his meaningful smile, Zhan Mingyan became somewhat flustered, “I… ”
“Was Bai Jue here with you last night?” Jian Luo continued to ask.
Zhan Mingyan nodded slightly, “Jian Luo, can I ask you for a favor?”
“Hmm?”
She reached into her pocket. Jian Luo watched her, puzzled, as Zhan Mingyan spread open her hand, “Please, can you return the necklace to him for me? Just say you found it.”
“Sorry, but I’m afraid I can’t help you with that. It would be better if you returned it to him yourself,” Jian Luo said evenly, glancing at the necklace.
“If I return it to him, I’m afraid he might throw it away again,” Zhan Mingyan said in a subdued voice, “Your personal effort to find Bai Jue’s necklace for him tells me it must be extremely important to him. I don’t want him to throw away something so significant on a whim.”
“You think Bai Jue threw away the necklace on just a whim?” Jian Luo’s eyes narrowed slightly, a faint smile lingering on his lips.
Zhan Mingyan remained silent.
“From the very first day I met Bai Jue, he always wore this necklace, never taking it off. This necklace was a keepsake from his father,” Jian Luo slowly said.
Upon hearing this, Zhan Mingyan’s pupils shrank slightly as she clutched the necklace in her hand tighter.
“Do you still think Bai Jue threw away the necklace on a whim?” Jian Luo glanced at her and continued, “I’ve come to understand a bit about the issues between you and Bai Jue, Mingyan. I know he’s made many mistakes, ones that might seem unforgivable to you. He has recognized his own faults. If possible, please reconsider, and don’t give up on the fate between you two so easily.”
After a while, Zhan Mingyan pursed her lips and said, “Jian Luo, don’t laugh at me, but I actually confessed my feelings to him twice. Um… both times I was rejected. Afterwards, I saw him with another woman.”
She paused, a bitter smile tainting the corners of her mouth. “Being rejected over and over, that pain is unforgettable to this day. He’s like a gust of wind, never staying for anyone. Likewise, he won’t stay for me. We are like two parallel lines that will never intersect, with no points of convergence. He’s too enigmatic; I feel so distant from him.”
Jian Luo quietly listened, his lips lightly pursed. “Mingyan, it cannot be denied that the past Bai Jue was indeed like a gust of wind, and we all believed he wouldn’t stop for anyone. However, in recent days, I’ve seen a different Bai Jue. His feelings for you are sincere. Please consider it carefully and give him a chance, as well as yourself. Don’t live in regret and remorse.”
“Jian Luo, just because you like someone doesn’t mean you can be together,” Zhan Mingyan said as she leaned over and placed the necklace in front of him.
“Please pass this necklace on to him for me.”
Jian Luo flicked his finger, lifting the necklace. “Bai Jue was raised single-handedly by his grandfather. His father passed away when he was very young. This necklace is something he values more than his life. Since he has already given you the necklace, you should keep it. Even if you were to give it back to him—as you said—he would just throw it away again.”
After speaking, he stood up and put the necklace back in front of her.
“Mingyan, I truly hope you can be happy!” He put on his hat and said softly, “I’ll be going now.”
Zhan Mingyan looked at the necklace on the table, her lips tightly drawn.
Jian Luo pushed open the door and paused, “Mingyan, Bai Jue is actually very lonely.”
The wind chimes collided, their crisp sounds echoing.
Zhan Mingyan picked up the necklace and hugged her arms around her knees.
What should she do?
…
An Family
Ever since the incident with Zhao Xuan, An Yu and An Yun had been acting out of character, almost returning to the mansion every day. An Rong and Yang Lin also frequently stayed over at the mansion, saying they wanted to keep Zhou Qi company.
“Mom, why hasn’t Dad come back yet? He wouldn’t be getting a hard time from Jian Qing at Shijin Haoting, would he?” An Rong said, fanning the flames as she applied nail polish.
Zhou Qi snorted, “He went there on his own accord. I advised him against it, but he wouldn’t listen. If he’s having a hard time, it’s his own doing.”
“Grandma, Grandpa is back,” Yang Lin tugged at Zhou Qi’s sleeve, signaling her to stop talking.
Zhou Qi looked towards the door. An Zhonghui walked in briskly, seemingly in good spirits.
“Grandpa, why are you holding a toy car?” Yang Lin keenly noticed the toy car in An Zhonghui’s hand and carefully asked.
An Zhonghui put his hands behind his back, hiding the toy car, his expression serious, “Aqi, if you cannot accept Jian Qing and the rest, then don’t provoke them anymore. Especially, don’t start saying unpleasant things every time you meet them.”
“What do you mean I shouldn’t provoke them?” Upon hearing this, Zhou Qi exploded, standing up abruptly in disbelief, “Zhonghui, how could you change like this after a trip to Shijin Haoting? Could it be that they’ve bewitched you with some sort of potion?”
