Chapter 879: 865, An Man disappeared (1) Chapter 879: 865, An Man disappeared (1) “I’ve already arranged for the affairs behind Xiang Cheng’s passing. I was going to find the right time to tell you all, but I didn’t expect you to find out so soon,”

Zhou Qi scoffed coldly, her tone very unsatisfied, “If someone hadn’t told me today, were you planning to keep this from us for a lifetime?”

“No, Mom, that’s not what I meant. The incident only happened today, and with the old master currently in the hospital, I didn’t want you to worry about him while also mourning Xiang Cheng’s death,” Zhao Xuan explained earnestly.

“Enough, I don’t want to hear your excuses. When I entrusted Xiang Cheng to you, it wasn’t long before he was gone. How could you expect me to explain this to Aman?” Zhou Qi glared at her, asking in grief.

“What were you really thinking when you took on the care of Xiang Cheng? Such a significant event as his death, and you dared to hide it from us—Zhao Xuan, you’re too audacious.”

Had she known it would come to this, she would never have agreed to let Zhao Xuan take on the responsibility of caring for Xiang Cheng. How was she supposed to explain this to Aman now?

“Mom, is Xiang Cheng really dead?” An Yu asked in disbelief.

Seeing the coldness in An Chong’s eyes, Zhao Xuan felt a sinking sensation in her heart and hurriedly explained, “Achong, Xiang Cheng’s death really isn’t related to me. You know his condition, and besides, he was resolute in wanting to die, not cooperating with the doctors’ treatments. I’ve also repeatedly asked the doctors to spare no effort in saving him. If you don’t believe me, you’re welcome to ask the doctors for clarification.”

An Chong looked at her, his eyes shadowy, “Come out with me.”

After speaking, he stood up and walked out.

Zhao Xuan glanced at An Yu and others, then followed him outside.

“Aman, I’m so sorry to you,” Zhou Qi beat her chest and stamped her feet in sorrow, An Zhonghui glanced at her and then looked away toward the door, lost in thought.

In the garden, the atmosphere was somewhat heavy.

Zhao Xuan looked up at the person with his back to her, a hint of nervousness flickering in her eyes.

“Zhao Xuan, why did you initially take on the task of caring for Xiang Cheng?” Under the night sky, a cold voice broke the endless silence.

Zhao Xuan’s brow furrowed slightly, repeating her earlier justification, “Haven’t I told you before? With Aman in prison, Mom couldn’t take care of Xiang Cheng alone. Also, when I visited Aman, she begged me to help take care of Xiang Cheng, so that’s why I let Mom hand him over to me.”

Before her words were finished, An Chong turned around abruptly and grabbed her arm, “Zhao Xuan, I want the truth. What are you really scheming?”

Zhao Xuan’s pupils tightened, as if frightened by him, “Achong, what do you mean? What could I possibly scheme? I only took care of Xiang Cheng out of consideration for the kinship we share in this family. Can’t you stop assuming the worst of me?”

“Zhao Xuan, did you make some sort of deal with Aman? Make yourself clear,” An Chong’s grip on her arm tightened as he demanded harshly.

Considering the ties of kinship? Hah, did she really think he was so easy to deceive? What kind of person Zhao Xuan was—he would know, wouldn’t he?

“Achong, you’re hurting me—let go!” Zhao Xuan winced in pain, her eyebrows knit tightly as she forcefully shook off his grip, retreating backward while clutching her arm.

“Zhao Xuan, if you refuse to speak, then I’ll go ask Aman myself,” An Chong threatened grimly.

Everyone in the An Family knew that Xiang Cheng was Aman’s lifeline. If she found out about Xiang Cheng’s death, even if there was some scheming between her and Zhao Xuan, it would cause their relationship to sour.

Hearing this, a trace of fear swept through the depths of Zhao Xuan’s eyes, but she still tried to maintain a calm facade, “Achong, if you don’t believe me, you can go ask Aman yourself. After all, I have a clear conscience.”

An Chong stared at her steadfastly, his voice cold, “I will personally ask Aman. You’d better guarantee you’re not scheming anything because if you are, consider our marriage over.”

“An Chong, you…” Zhao Xuan was dumbfounded. She thought An Chong, no matter how angry, would never say such things. Was he implying that he wanted a divorce now?

An Chong snorted coldly, and without waiting for her to finish, he turned on his heel and left.

Watching his figure shrink into a tiny black shadow until it disappeared, Zhao Xuan clenched her teeth, tears flickering in her eyes.

An Chong, do you really have to be so heartless to me?

After leaving the An Family, An Chong drove straight to the prison, only to be informed upon arrival that An Man had been temporarily released on bail and would not be returned until the next day.

“Who bailed her out?” An Chong furrowed his brows. At this critical moment, who would bail out Aman, and with Aman convicted, who had the authority to get her released.

“We’re not sure about that,” the prison guard said. “If Mr. An wishes to visit, please come back tomorrow evening.

An Chong asked, “Did anything unusual happen here today?”

The guard pondered for a moment before replying, “Nothing out of the ordinary, but someone did visit An Man today. They hardly exchanged a few words before An Man began screaming as though triggered, and soon after, someone came to take her away. We were informed that she was needed to help with an investigation into an incident and would be returned tomorrow.”

Upon hearing this, An Chong’s expression darkened dramatically, and he swiftly turned to leave.

Xiang Cheng had just had an accident, and Aman was taken away. Could all this have been orchestrated by Zhao Xuan?

“Luo, you go rest for a bit. I’ll stay here,” Black Jack said, bringing over a cup of hot water and looking at the person sitting by the bed with a touch of pity in his eyes.

Jian Luo took the cup and shook his head slightly, “I can’t sleep.”

Black Jack looked up at Mo Xiao, “Dad, why don’t you rest? Luo and I will stay here, and Bai Jue is here too. Grandpa Mo won’t be in any trouble for now.”

Mo Xiao shook his head and remained silent.

Just then, the ward door was pushed open, and An Chong hurriedly walked in.

“Big brother!”

“Achong, what brings you here?” Mo Xiao was surprised to see him at the hospital at this hour and noticed his urgency, his gaze growing deeper.

“Big brother, there’s something I want to discuss with you,” An Chong said, glancing at Jian Luo and the others before his gaze settled on Mo Xiao, his tone serious.

Mo Xiao let go of Old Master An’s hand and drew the blanket up before standing up and walking over to him, “What is it?”

“Can we talk outside?” An Chong suggested.

Black Jack and the others glanced at An Chong with little interest in his mysterious demeanor.

Mo Xiao said in an indifferent voice, “No need, say it here. There’re no strangers around.”

An Chong hesitated but, considering An Man’s safety, could not afford to care about other matters and blurted out, “Big brother, Xiang Cheng is dead, and Aman is gone.”

Hearing this, Mo Xiao’s eyes turned sharp. “Xiang Cheng is dead? When did this happen?”
