Chapter 877: 863, I don’t want him to die (2) Chapter 877: 863, I don’t want him to die (2) “There’s no rush, we’ll just wait for Zhao Xuan to slip up on her own.” Quan Jingwu placed the peeled shrimp into her bowl, his voice deep and resonant.
Jian Qing hummed in acknowledgment and picked up her chopsticks to continue eating.
…
Outside the window, the moon was a slender crescent, accompanied by sparse twinkling stars in the cold night.
Under the warm orange light, the man’s sharp facial features were accentuated on one side; a light breeze brushed through, tousling the hair on his forehead, his deep blue eyes enchanting.
The man leaned against the sports car, arms folded, occasionally glancing toward the hospital gate, as the curious gazes of passersby stealthily glanced his way.
“Black Jack!”
A gentle voice pierced the night, laced with a hint of amusement.
Jian Luo looked at the man leaning against the sports car; the corners of his lips lifted slightly. In a few quick strides, he came down the steps and jogged toward him.
“Why the rush?” Black Jack curled a finger, lightly tapping him on the forehead, “I’m not going anywhere.”
“Didn’t you say you’d arrive tomorrow?” Jian Luo’s eyes curved with a smile, “Why did you suddenly show up?”
Black Jack’s lips curved into a smile, “What do you think?”
“How would I know.”
“Have you eaten yet?” Seeing the lingering glances around them, Black Jack opened the car door, and Jian Luo, with a smirk on his lips, got into the car.
“Not yet.”
Black Jack got into the car, closed the door, and handed him a bag, “Hurry up and eat, or it’ll get cold.”
Jian Luo opened the bag and the container inside, releasing a familiar fragrance—it was his favorite fish porridge.
He scooped up a spoonful and brought it to his mouth, his lips turning upward in satisfaction.
“Have you eaten?”
Black Jack watched him eat with delight, his lips quirking up in a smile, “If you feed me, I wouldn’t mind having some.”
“Dream on.” Jian Luo guarded the container with both hands and gave him a light glare.
Black Jack rested one hand on the steering wheel, leisurely watching him eat, “Luo Xiaobai, when are you going to come back to Y Country with me?”
“Why?” Jian Luo asked offhandedly.
“There’s a banquet soon, and I was hoping you’d accompany me.”
“I’m not going.” Jian Luo replied without hesitation.
Those banquets were nothing but a chance for people within their circles to network—a complete bore. He would rather spend time in Beijing with Seventeen and Nineteen.
“Aren’t you afraid that other women will set their sights on me if you don’t go?” Black Jack teased.
“Let them look all they want. If they have the guts, let them try to take you.” Jian Luo glanced at him, his voice cool.
Anyone who dared reach out to what was his would find themselves chopped up bit by bit and thrown into the sea to feed the sharks.
Watching the confidence and arrogance weaved into his brows, Black Jack chuckled, ruffling his chestnut-colored hair and earning a roll of the eyes in return.
After finishing the meal, Black Jack helped him tidy up the container. Jian Luo grabbed a tissue to wipe his mouth and glanced at his watch—it was almost eight.
“I should go up now. Are you going back to Shijin Haoting tonight?”
Black Jack said, “I’ll go up with you. I’ll keep you company tonight.”
“Are you staying in Beijing?” he asked.
“There isn’t much happening in Y Country, so I’ll stay here for a few days.” As he spoke, he pulled out a jacket and handed it to him.
“Take this. Put it on when you sleep to avoid catching a cold.”
Jian Luo looked at the jacket in his hands, the hint of his fragrance still clinging to it, and felt a rush of warmth in his heart.
“Let’s go, Bai Jue must be bored up there by himself.” Black Jack got out of the car first, followed closely by Jian Luo,
The two walked into the hospital shoulder to shoulder, their strikingly handsome features still attracting many gazes.
Entering the ward, Bai Jue was sitting on the sofa looking at his phone, while Mo Xiao and Uncle Qiu stood vigil by the bed.
“Well, look who’s here,” Bai Jue said upon seeing the two people entering together, his eyes gleaming with a teasing look towards Black Jack.
Black Jack glanced at him and turned to greet Mo Xiao with a nod.
“Dad!”
Mo Xiao nodded happily, while Uncle Qiu was taken aback, his eyes shifting between Black Jack and Mo Xiao, his mind racing with possibilities.
Could this be the son that the big boss had with another woman abroad?
Mo Xiao saw his confusion but didn’t offer an explanation.
“Beep beep beep––”
The monitor let out a piercing sound, quite abruptly.
Old Master An’s breathing suddenly became rapid, his gaunt cheeks turning even paler.
“Master!”
“Grandpa!”
Mo Xiao and Uncle Qiu were startled and stood up abruptly.
“Everyone, step back.”
Bai Jue rushed over, and Mo Xiao gave up his spot for him, standing at the foot of the bed.
Jian Luo looked at Old Master An, who was breathing rapidly, and felt his heart wrench.
Bai Jue raised his hand to press the call button by the bed, “The situation is quite bad, you all need to go out now, we’re about to perform emergency procedures.”
Uncle Qiu’s pupils contracted, and cold sweat broke out on his spine.
“Bai Jue, please,” Mo Xiao said earnestly.
Bai Jue nodded understandingly, as doctors quickly poured into the room; the person lying here was an influential figure in Beijing, and they couldn’t afford to slack off.
“Luo, let’s step out,” Black Jack said, taking his hand. Jian Luo took one last glance at Old Master An and quickly followed him out.
In the corridor, Mo Xiao leaned against the wall, his gaze fixed on the firmly closed door of the ward, a shadow casting over his eyes as he itched to tear the poisoner into pieces.
“Don’t worry, with Bai Jue here, nothing will go wrong,” Black Jack said, looking to his side and patting his shoulder in a comforting tone.
Jian Luo nodded slightly, but still felt an unease at the bottom of his heart.
After a long while, the door finally opened and the doctors came out one after another. Jian Luo and the others hurried inside.
“Bai Jue, how’s my great-grandfather?”
Bai Jue tucked in the blanket for Old Master An, his expression grave, “I’m afraid I have to apologize to you all this time.”
“Bai Jue, what… what do you mean?” Upon hearing this, Jian Luo suddenly had an ominous premonition, his hands clenching nervously.
Bai Jue said, “Old Master An’s condition has deteriorated, I’m afraid he won’t last much longer.”
“No, I don’t believe it.” Uncle Qiu staggered, rushing to the bed and grabbing Old Master An’s hand, his eyes reddening as he spoke.
“Master, you can’t be in trouble, you have to hold on, you still need to see the two young masters grow up.”
Mo Xiao rooted to the spot, looked down at the old man on the bed with difficulty, his temples throbbing with repressed, immense grief.
“Bai Jue, give him medicine, how can you be out of options?” Jian Luo rushed forward, grabbing Bai Jue’s arm in panic, “You had a way to save me before, how can you not have a way to save my great-grandfather, give him the medicine quickly.”
Bai Jue looked at his distressed figure, his heart aching, and said in a gentle tone, “Jian Luo, Old Master An is already old, even if I treat him, he won’t last much longer.”
No matter how skilled his medicine was, he couldn’t make someone old live forever.
“Luo!” Black Jack reached out to pull him back, his hands holding onto his shoulders, “Calm down, if Bai Jue had a way, he definitely wouldn’t stand by and watch.”
“Black Jack, no, I don’t want him to die, I don’t,” Jian Luo broke down into his embrace, his eyes moistening, his voice hoarse.
