Chapter 823: 809, why is it this handsome guy again (1) Chapter 823: 809, why is it this handsome guy again (1) Bai Jue touched his chin, his gaze sweeping over the various flowers in the shop until it reached the dazzling, passionate red, and his lips curled into a smile.
“This one is good,” he said, pointing. Zhan Mingyan followed the direction of his finger and her expression froze.
Red roses?
Her first thought was that he was buying them for a woman.
Her eyes flickered, and she lowered her gaze to conceal the dimness in her eyes, speaking in an even tone, “How many would you like?”
Bai Jue said casually, “Ninety-nine.”
“All right, please wait.”
When she turned around, a bitter curve formed at the corner of her mouth.
Bai Jue watched her busy silhouette, his eyes clouded with ambiguity.
Zhan Mingyan wrapped the bouquet quickly, and in no time, she came over with a bunch of roses that were blooming vibrantly.
“Take it.”
Bai Jue lowered his eyes to the bouquet she handed over, ninety-nine roses, fiery red, breathtakingly beautiful.
Seeing that he didn’t take it for a long time, Zhan Mingyan stuffed the bouquet into his arms forcefully, “Alright, please pay and you can leave. My shop still needs to do business. I don’t have time to waste with you here.”
“Zhan Mingyan!” Bai Jue called out her name softly, holding the bouquet.
Zhan Mingyan paused, momentarily at a loss for a response.
“You… Let’s talk,” Bai Jue interrupted her, saying.
She had intended to avoid him, the farther the better, and had no desire to talk to him at all. Not at all.
Zhan Mingyan’s face once again assumed a distant expression, “Mr. Bai, we are not close. There’s nothing to talk about. If you don’t leave now, I will have to ask you to leave.”
Bai Jue held the bouquet in one hand, while reaching out his other hand toward her. Zhan Mingyan stepped back, avoiding his outstretched hand.
“Mr. Bai, please behave yourself. If you continue to harass me here, I will have to call the police.”
Bai Jue’s hand froze in mid-air, his deep eyes fixed on her, “Zhan Mingyan, if it’s because of the incident in Switzerland, I can apologize to you.”
He knew it took a lot of courage for her, a woman, to confess to him, a grown man. His rejection indeed made him feel somewhat guilty, but he didn’t want that incident to ruin the friendship between them.
“The incident in Switzerland?” Zhan Mingyan looked at him with a puzzled gaze, “What on earth are you talking about? I’ve already said I didn’t know you before, have you mistaken me for someone else?”
Bai Jue stayed silent, his eyes intently staring at her.
The silence suddenly became unnerving.
The people around them watched the two in silence, nobody daring to make a sound.
Zhan Mingyan met his gaze stubbornly, their eyes locked, and the ceaseless silence made the atmosphere between them somewhat delicate.
After a long while, Bai Jue finally moved. He walked to the cashier, took out his mobile phone to scan and pay, then turned around and left without a word.
Zhan Mingyan watched the whole process, rooted to the spot, her eyes following him until he left the flower shop. The glass door closed, and she withdrew her gaze, turning back to continue her work at the cashier.
She was also tired of him.
Let it be.
On the roadside, Bai Jue looked at the bouquet in his hand, feeling somewhat frustrated. He opened his car door and carelessly tossed the roses onto the back seat.
He turned his head to glance at the flower shop across the street for just a second before withdrawing his gaze, then he got into his car and drove away.
Dihao Bar
Approaching the door to a specific private room, Han Yue pushed it open and entered.
As he stepped in, a faint scent of alcohol hit him.
He looked up to see Bai Jue sitting on the sofa, with an already empty bottle of red wine on the table.
“You’re here, have a drink,” Bai Jue said, lifting his wine glass as Han Yue came in, the bewitching liquid reflecting dazzling colors under the light.
Han Yue smiled and tossed his car keys aside, sitting across from him.
He leaned back, raising his legs and placing them on the table in a relaxed posture.
“What’s going on?”
In broad daylight looking for him to drink, there must be a catch!
“Do I need a reason to ask you out for a drink?” Bai Jue shot him a glance and tilted his head to finish the red wine in his glass.
Han Yue chuckled lightly, glanced at the wine on the table, seemingly uninterested, and teased, “You kind of look like you’ve just been through a breakup.”
“Pfft—”
Bai Jue sprayed out the wine, his face turning red.
“Cough cough cough…”
Seeing such a big reaction from him, Han Yue’s eyebrows quirked slightly.
Could it be that he actually hit the nail on the head?
“I said I was here to drink, not to be murdered by you,” Bai Jue put down his glass and took a breath before speaking.
Last time he looked for Black Jack and the others to drink, they said the same thing, and now this guy, did they really wish that eagerly for his heartbreak?
By the way, was his reputation really that bad?
“Haha.”
Han Yue burst into laughter, his gaze towards him flickering with a teasing mirth, “Why so agitated, did I actually guess right?”
Bai Jue stared at him, “Get lost, I’ve never even properly had a girlfriend, where would I get the chance to experience heartbreak.”
Han Yue shrugged his shoulders with an innocent smile.
“So why are you asking me to drink this early?”
“Do we need to pick a time for drinking?” Bai Jue responded incredulously, “Do you also choose an auspicious day to go to work?”
Han Yue said, “Out with it, what do you actually want?”
“…”
Bai Jue rolled his eyes gracelessly. Couldn’t they just have fun?
“Can’t I ask you out for a drink if there’s nothing wrong?”
“You can, but with that gloomy look on your face, I don’t believe you simply wanted to drink,” Han Yue said with a smile.
“Forget it.” Bai Jue grabbed his car keys and glanced at him sideways. “I’m not drinking with someone as dull as you.”
“Hey, where are you going?” Han Yue watched him open the door and walk out, calling towards his retreating figure.
Damn.
He called him over but didn’t drink, was he playing with him?
In the days that followed, Zhan Mingyan hadn’t seen Bai Jue again. Her heart felt a mix of relief and a trace of sourness, but his absence was maybe a good thing for her. At least she could start to forget him and not have to think of ways to avoid him.
In the afternoon, the flower shop decreased in customer traffic.
Zhan Mingyan leaned on the sofa reading a magazine, intermittently sipping iced coffee from the table, comfortably whiling away the time.
“Welcome!”
Upon hearing the tinkling sound of the wind chimes at the door, Xiaoqing turned around and spoke.
The next second, as she lifted her gaze to see the person coming in, a look of surprise appeared on her face.
Why is it this handsome guy again?
Bai Jue scanned the surroundings, his eyes quickly lingering on the charming figure on the sofa.
He walked straight over, bypassing the potted plants on the ground.
With people coming and going in the shop, Zhan Mingyan was absorbed in her magazine and didn’t notice his arrival, simply assuming another customer had come in.
It was only when a pair of black sneakers stopped in front of her that she frowned, looked up, and met the man’s dark and bright eyes.
With a “thump,” the magazine slid from her hands and landed on the man’s sneakers.
Zhan Mingyan stood up abruptly, somewhat flustered, “What are you doing here?”
