Chapter 1108: 1093, Shanshan Side Story (35) Chapter 1108: 1093, Shanshan Side Story (35) What?
His precious little sister’s emotional intelligence is frighteningly low.
With an exaggerated expression, Nineteen looked at her and said speechlessly, “No way, my little princess, don’t tell me you can’t see the feelings Azhan has for you?”
If it weren’t for Mu Chen’s appearance, he almost thought his brother-in-law would be Azhan.
After all, Azhan and Shanshan are close in age, and they have been close since childhood. Azhan’s affection for Shanshan is no less than his and Seventeen when it comes to being brothers.
Only then did Shanshan realize the meaning behind their words, and she broke into a sweat, “Second brother, are you saying Azhan likes me?”
That couldn’t be.
What kind of joke was this?
Seventeen and Nineteen collapsed to the ground.
How come her empathy didn’t follow their family’s genes?
“Shanshan, Azhan is so nice to you, can’t you feel it at all?” Seventeen couldn’t help but feel a bit of sympathy for Bai Feizhan, falling for his little sister, the silly girl. Now, he was probably going to be heartbroken.
Mu Chen heard this, and a dark glint flashed through his deep eyes.
“But I’ve always seen him as a younger brother,” Shanshan scratched her head and said, coming to the realization belatedly.
Seventeen and Nineteen exchanged glances, feeling truly sorry for Azhan.
If it had been any other girl, she would have been moved by Azhan by now, but she was still clueless.
“Mu Chen, you really have the talent. It’s been so long since we last saw you, yet you managed to whisk away our Shanshan,” Nineteen said to Mu Chen, teasing him with a smile.
He thought that this kid being out of the picture for so long would make Shanshan eventually forget him. He even thought her feelings for him might fade, but the moment he showed up, Shanshan’s heart leaned towards him, leaving Azhan with no chance at all.
“Second brother, I haven’t been whisked away by him, stop talking nonsense,” Shanshan muttered.
Nineteen arched his eyebrows slightly, “So you don’t like him? Then I’ll go tell Azhan to hurry up and pursue you.”
“Second brother,” Shanshan bit her lip and stepped on Nineteen’s foot.
That bit of roughhousing, for Nineteen, was just tickling. He smiled and his gaze shifted back and forth between Mu Chen and Shanshan.
Things seemed to be getting more interesting.
After leaving the cafe, Jian Luo and the Seventeen brothers left together. As for Mu Chen and Shanshan, they went back to the hotel.
In the dim light, the person in bed tossed and turned.
Shanshan pulled down the blanket and peeked out, exhaling softly.
She looked up at the wall clock. It was already one in the morning.
Ever since returning to the hotel, her brothers’ words lingered in her ears.
She saw Azhan as a little brother, how could he like her?
That was impossible.
Were her eldest brother and second brother teasing her?
But they wouldn’t joke about this kind of thing.
If it were true, wouldn’t she end up hurting Azhan’s feelings—what should she do?
“Sigh.”
She let out a long sigh, not feeling the least bit sleepy.
Looks like she was going to suffer from insomnia tonight.
This time, Mu Chen kept his word. As soon as Shanshan’s graduation trip ended, he followed her back to Beijing.
In the middle, he even returned to Y Country and then came back to Beijing.
Attending his future mother-in-law’s birthday was a big event.
Bright and early, he arrived at the door.
His hands were full of items, making Shanshan almost think he had gone on a shopping spree back in Y Country.
After helping him bring the items inside, Shanshan slumped onto the sofa.
“Why did you bring so many things?”
Mu Chen curved his lips into a smile, reached out to gently tease her nose, “It’s my mother-in-law’s birthday, of course, I need to prepare a gift properly.”
“Mother-in-law?” Shanshan didn’t catch on for a moment, but she quickly reacted and glared at him, “Who is your mother-in-law, don’t just call anyone that. Be careful or my daddy might hear you and chase you out with a broom.”
Mu Chen chuckled softly and looked around, “Why is there only one person here?”
“My brother and the rest just got back from abroad last night and are still sleeping upstairs. Daddy and mommy have gone out and will be back later,” said Shanshan.
This was simply a perfect opportunity for them to be alone together.
Mu Chen’s eyes lit up, “Shanshan, how have you been considering it?”
“What?” Shanshan, who was drinking water, paused when she heard his question.
Mu Chen slipped his hand into his pocket and then took out a small brocade box. Confronted with that fervent red color, Shanshan felt a little flutter of the heart.
“This is for you.”
Shanshan didn’t take it, looking at him with puzzled eyes, “Hmm?”
“Open it and see.” Mu Chen stuffed the little brocade box into her hand. His large hand naturally rested on her shoulder, the gesture seeming as though he had rehearsed it countless times.
For her, who had seen countless luxury goods, she had some guesses about what was inside the little box.
But there was still a teeny tiny bit of uncertainty.
After all, giving that thing now seemed a bit too premature.
“No, I can’t accept an undeserved reward.” Shanshan pushed the little box back into his hands and shifted to the side.
Mu Chen looked down at the small box being pushed back at him, and his gaze dimmed.
He opened the small box, and a dazzling, exquisite ring lay quietly inside.
Shanshan’s eyes flickered. Mu Chen took out the ring, stood up, and then knelt on one knee before her.
A series of actions didn’t give her a chance to react.
“Shanshan, even though I haven’t been with you these years and missed out on being part of your past, I promise that from now on I will always be by your side, love you, cherish you, protect you. Will you give me a chance?” the man said with his magnetic voice, slow and deliberate.
Looking at his eyes reflecting her image, Shanshan felt somewhat at a loss.
“Mu Chen, I…”
For the first time in her life, she hadn’t even experienced being a girlfriend, and now, abruptly, it had progressed to a marriage proposal—that was faster than a rocket, wasn’t it?
“Shanshan, you can take your time to think about it. Keep this ring for now, and when you’re ready, I’ll put it on for you.”
Saying so, he closed the small box, placing it back into Shanshan’s hands.
Shanshan looked at the exquisitely crafted little box in her hand, then suddenly raised her head to look at him, “Mu Chen, there’s something I want to ask you.”
Mu Chen hummed in acknowledgment.
“When did you start liking me?” Shanshan asked word by word.
Mu Chen thought carefully, his thin lips lifting into a charming curve, then he sat down beside her, leaned in close to her ear.
“I’m not quite sure. I just know that by the time I realized it, I was already in love with you. Maybe it was during that time at the racecourse, or perhaps it was that time I went to look for you at the kindergarten.”
Shanshan’s lips curved slightly, her dimples shallow and enchanting.
“So you’re not afraid that during your long absence, I could have fallen for someone else? What would you do then?” she asked with a sidelong glance, a smile in her eyes.
“Indeed, I have thought about that,” Mu Chen’s jaw rested on her shoulder, his eyes lifting at the corners, “I would sentence myself to a lifetime of being single.”
His low voice carried a bewitching power.
“Because besides you, I don’t want anyone else.”
