Chapter 1036: 1021, Jue and Zhan’s Couple Extra (20) Chapter 1036: 1021, Jue and Zhan’s Couple Extra (20) The phone crashed to the ground, still displaying the undialed number. The driver kicked it aside and then shoved Zhan Mingyan into the car before driving off.

Elsewhere

Bai Jue was still waiting for Zhan Mingyan at the Photo Studio.

“Bai Jue, could it be that Mingyan had a change of heart at the last minute and decided not to marry you?” Xiya joked as she fiddled with her camera.

Bai Jue snorted lightly, “That seems more like something you would do.”

“It’s been more than half an hour now, even with traffic she should have arrived. Call her and see what’s up,” Xiya said.

Bai Jue took out his phone and called, but no one answered.

He abruptly stood up, frowning deeply.

“What’s wrong?” Xiya, noticing his troubled expression, asked.

Bai Jue said in a steady voice, “The call went through, but nobody answered.”

“Could it be that Mingyan didn’t hear it?”

“I’ll check the flower shop.”

Having said that, Bai Jue turned and rushed out.

Xiya frowned and picked up her phone to call Zhan Mingyan.

After several calls, just like Bai Jue, no one picked up.

Bai Jue sped all the way to the flower shop, and just as he got out of the car, he encountered Xiaoqing coming out to throw away trash.

“Hey, Mr. Bai, why are you here? Didn’t Mingyan go to find you?” Xiaoqing said, surprised.

“When did she leave?” Bai Jue asked.

Xiaoqing thought for a moment, “About an hour ago.”

Bai Jue’s face darkened, and he turned back to his car.

He took out his phone and called Jian Qing, “Jian Qing, help me locate Mingyan’s mobile phone.”

After hanging up, he drove off straight away.

Soon after, Jian Qing sent a message.

Bai Jue opened it, glanced at it, and then sped up even more.

Finally, he stopped the car at the location Jian Qing had sent him.

Bai Jue’s gaze swept the surroundings; this section was a curve with not many people around.

Suddenly, his eyes rested on a phone dropped in the Grass Cluster.

He quickly walked over, recognized that it was Zhan Mingyan’s phone, and hastily picked it up. The screen was cracked, but it was still usable.

He lit up the screen, and there was his own phone number, still in the state of not having been dialed.

Now, Bai Jue was certain that something had happened to Zhan Mingyan.

He took out his own phone and called Jian Qing back, “Jian Qing, Mingyan has had an accident. Help me pull up the surveillance footage from the entrance of the flower shop and all of Beijing’s traffic cameras.”

“Okay, wait for my message.” On the other end of the phone, Jian Qing’s eyes turned cold, “Come over here, I’ll send someone to look.”

“Okay.”

When Bai Jue got to Jian Qing’s place, Xiya had already arrived a step ahead of him.

“Any news?” Bai Jue’s handsome face showed rare signs of panic, after rushing back and forth, his hair somewhat disheveled.

“Bai Jue, come and see this,” Jian Qing called up the surveillance footage around the flower shop and pointed at the screen where Zhan Mingyan was seen leaving the shop.

Zhan Mingyan walked to the roadside, waited for a moment, and then boarded a taxi.

Jian Qing then checked other traffic surveillance footage again and discovered that Zhan Mingyan had not gotten out of that taxi at any point.

“Bai Jue, this taxi seems to have stopped at the previous intersection for a while—it’s a blind spot without surveillance. If Mingyan didn’t get out there, there’s only one other possibility. Something happened to her at that intersection, or perhaps she’s still in that taxi,” Jian Qing reviewed several surveillance feeds, pieced together the events, and analyzed calmly.

“Mingyan met with trouble at that intersection. I found her phone there; something’s wrong with that taxi,” Bai Jue said firmly as he took out Zhan Mingyan’s phone with its cracked screen.

Jian Qing lightly tapped the keyboard, enlarging the taxi’s license plate number, and then took out the phone to send a text message.

After putting down the phone, Jian Qing tried to reassure him, “Bai Jue, don’t panic. The taxi has a license plate number; it will be much easier for us to investigate.”

Bai Jue’s heart rose to his throat, fearing that a second’s delay could spell disaster for Zhan Mingyan.

“Bai Jue, think carefully. Has Mingyan ever mentioned if she had any enemies or anything like that?” Xiya asked.

Bai Jue shook his head. In all the time he knew Zhan Mingyan, she had never spoken of having any enemies that she absolutely despised.

“Ding—”

The phone vibrated, causing the taut string in Bai Jue’s mind to tighten further.

Jian Qing picked up the phone, opened the message, glanced at it, and then passed it to Bai Jue, “Found it, it’s right here.”

Upon receiving the phone, Bai Jue’s body was engulfed with a surge of fury, and then he put the phone down and dashed away without a trace.

“Jian Qing, could something go wrong?” Xiya’s face rarely showed a few traces of solemnity, “Who are we dealing with?”

As Jian Qing was sending texts, he responded, “Don’t worry, I’ve sent someone over. They should arrive around the same time as Bai Jue. I don’t know the other party, a woman named Lou Xin.”

“Lou Xin?”

Xiya touched her head, “Could it be one of Bai Jue’s brief encounters from before?”

“That’s unlikely, but judging from Bai Jue’s reaction just now, he probably knows her,” Jian Qing said, his eyes darkening as he looked at the information that had come through on his phone.

Lou Xin!

In the abandoned, dilapidated factory, a damp, pungent odor was quite pungent.

Lou Xin looked at the person tied to the chair, her red lips curling into a mocking smile.

“Splash some water on her to wake her up.”

The taxi driver standing by picked up the bucket of water prepared beside him and hurled it directly at Zhan Mingyan.

“Cough cough!”

In the dead of winter, being doused with cold water, the bone-chilling coldness penetrated through the thick coat, still making one shiver uncontrollably.

Zhan Mingyan gradually regained consciousness, moving her hands slightly, only to find herself tied to a chair, immobile.

She lifted her head, facing a familiar visage.

“It’s you!”

Lou Xin smirked sarcastically, saying in a bizarre tone, “Oh, Miss Zhan still remembers me. I’m flattered indeed.”

Zhan Mingyan, seeing the driver next to her, suddenly understood.

She lifted her gaze towards Lou Xin and said harshly, “Lou Xin, what exactly do you want? Kidnapping is illegal.”

“Of course, I know that. But as long as you don’t tell anyone, no one will find out, right?” Lou Xin said with malicious intent.

Zhan Mingyan asked, “Why are you doing this?”

There was no deep-seated hatred between them; what could possibly compel her to take the risk of kidnapping?

“Why? Heh,” Lou Xin harshly grabbed Zhan Mingyan’s chin, her sharp fingernails causing Zhan Mingyan some pain.

“You clearly don’t like He Min, so why won’t you let him give up on you once and for all? I’ve hinted so many times, yet why can’t you understand? You’re the one he’s always pining for. You are getting married, yet you’re still the one in his heart. No matter what I do, he just can’t see my efforts.”

As she spoke, her voice grew more agitated.

“If you like He Min, then go and tell him. He and I are just friends. If you don’t believe me, go ask him yourself,” Zhan Mingyan frowned and retorted.
