Chapter 1019: 1004, Jue and Zhan’s Couple Extra (3) Chapter 1019: 1004, Jue and Zhan’s Couple Extra (3) “I just love slapping faces,” Bai Jue said with a slight smile, three parts roguish, seven parts rascally.
Zhan Mingyan’s mouth twitched.
What a show-off move.
“Little Yannyan, for playing me, I think we should really settle this account,” Bai Jue said, looking at the distracted person before him, with dangerous narrow eyes.
Zhan Mingyan saw him move and made a snap decision to dash toward the bathroom.
“Settle your ass!”
She sprinted the last two meters into the bathroom, slammed the door shut behind her, then locked it, completing the entire sequence in one fluid motion.
She thought, if she had run this fast during her school’s physical test, getting first place would have been a sure thing.
Bai Jue was left outside the door, letting out a light chuckle.
What a fool!
If he really wanted to catch her, there’d be no chance for her to run.
After freshening up, Zhan Mingyan, hearing no noise outside, quietly cracked open the bathroom door a sliver and peered out with her round eyes to survey the room.
Huh, no one there?
She pushed the door open and stepped out, only to find the person was indeed gone.
“Bai Jue?”
She called out twice, realizing he really wasn’t there.
Could it be that she had angered him away?
Zhan Mingyan sat on the sofa, feeling surprisingly empty inside.
Stupid Bai Jue!
Let him go, she didn’t want him anyway.
She picked up her bag and phone, and just as she reached the door, it opened.
“Where are you going?” Bai Jue glanced at the bag in her hand and asked.
“Didn’t you leave?” Zhan Mingyan paused, then huffed, “Why did you come back?”
The corner of Bai Jue’s mouth twitched in a half-smile as he explained, “I came here straight from the Research Room without even changing my clothes. Someone just delivered a new set of clothes, so I took a shower and changed in the next room.”
Zhan Mingyan gave him a look. His clothes were indeed changed, and he even carried a faint scent of shower gel.
Bai Jue took a step forward and took her hand, “Let’s go.”
Zhan Mingyan glanced at his hand and asked coolly, “Are we that close?”
“Do I even need to say it?”
Before his words ended, Bai Jue pulled her in, pecked her on the lips, and then leaned down to nuzzle her neck.
“Okay, don’t be mad at me. After breakfast, I’ll take you out to play, okay?”
Zhan Mingyan, watching him nuzzle against her neck, couldn’t help but recall a golden retriever she once had, the corners of her eyes curving into a light smile.
Bai Jue saw her smile and breathed a sigh of relief, then unexpectedly scooped her up in his arms, “Off we go to breakfast.”
Zhan Mingyan was startled, her hands quickly wrapping around his neck.
Seeing the occasional passing waiter, her cheeks flushed with a rosy hue.
“Bai Jue, put me down now,” she said.
“So what if they see” Bai Jue said with a smile, “Showing affection shouldn’t be illegal, right?”
“Shameless!” Zhan Mingyan slapped his chest, her eyes brimming with mirth.
When the old Mr. Zhan returned home with a frown on his face, Mr. and Mrs. Zhan Ze were baffled.
“Dad, didn’t you go to Uncle Quan’s house? Why did you come back so soon?” Zhan Ze handed him a cup of tea.
“Losing at chess is not a big deal, why the long face?”
The old Mr. Zhan glared at him, “Is my chess skill that bad?”
Zhan Ze gave a sheepish smile, “Alright, that was a slip of the tongue.”
“Ah.”
The elder Mr. Zhan let out a long sigh, brought the teacup to his lips without taking a sip, and then placed the cup back on the table.
Lu Hui and Zhan Ze exchanged a glance, sharing the same puzzled expression. Lu Hui asked in a gentle voice, “Dad, has something happened?”
The elder Mr. Zhan sighed again, his eyes brimming with envy, “Old Man Quan is already a great-grandfather, yet Yanyan has not even brought a boyfriend home. You have no idea, those two little ones from the Quan Family are so adorable, they’re like exquisite little celestials who stepped right out of a painting.”
Zhan Ze and Lu Hui realized what was going on and couldn’t help but laugh.
So, the old man was longing to hold a great-grandchild.
“After meetings, Old Man Quan always says he’s going home to tell stories to the two little ones, swaggering about as if his tail is about to wag up to the sky,” complained the elder Mr. Zhan.
“Haha.”
Zhan Ze laughed, “Dad, you’re envious of Uncle Quan, aren’t you?”
The elder Mr. Zhan glared, “No kidding, aren’t you envious of Ahao?”
“Well, Dad, my envy is useless anyway. We can’t decide when Yanyan will get a boyfriend,” said Zhan Ze, touching his nose helplessly.
The elder Mr. Zhan furrowed his brows, looking at Lu Hui, he asked, “Ahui, didn’t Yanyan meet He Min? How did that go?”
Lu Hui shook her head, “It didn’t work out.”
“That Han Yue kid isn’t bad either. How about I discuss with old man Han and try to set them up?” suggested the elder Mr. Zhan.
“Let’s not, Dad. Han Yue, Mingxuan, and the others, they all grew up with Mingyan since they were little. If there was any spark, it would have happened long ago; it wouldn’t have waited until now,” Zhan Ze analyzed.
The elder Mr. Zhan became frustrated and drank down the cooled tea in one gulp, “Then what do we do?”
“Actually…” Lu Hui started hesitantly.
Zhan Ze asked, “Ahui, what is it?”
Lu Hui hesitated for a moment before saying, “Well, it seems that Yanyan might have a boyfriend.”
Although her daughter had not explicitly told her, a mother knows her daughter best. As a woman who had been there, she could tell whether her daughter had a boyfriend with just one look.
“Who?” the elder Mr. Zhan’s eyes lit up.
“Ahui, how come you never mentioned it before? Could it be a match you arranged for Yanyan?” Zhan Ze asked.
Lu Hui shook her head and cleared her throat, “Ah Ze, actually, you have met this person before.”
Zhan Ze looked puzzled – he had met him before?
Suddenly, he had a flash of insight.
“Are you saying, Bai Jue?”
Lu Hui nodded with a smile playing at the corners of her mouth.
“You two are playing charades, who is Bai Jue?” the elder Mr. Zhan was confused and eagerly asked.
“Dad, Bai Jue is Jian Qing’s good friend,” Lu Hui explained.
“How is his character, then?” This mattered more to the elder Mr. Zhan. He didn’t care about family background; what concerned him was a person’s character and how well he treated his granddaughter.
“That kid is pretty good,” said Lu Hui with a smile, “and Mingyan really likes him too.”
Upon hearing this, the elder Mr. Zhan was somewhat reassured but then furrowed his brows again, “If she already has a boyfriend, why hasn’t she brought him home to meet us?”
Lu Hui said, “Dad, these things can’t be rushed. Let them date for now. Once their feelings are stable, Mingyan will naturally bring him home for us to meet.”
“Fine, as long as she has a boyfriend,” the elder Mr. Zhan replied, somewhat placated.
With a boyfriend, marriage won’t be far off, and perhaps a great-grandchild will follow soon.
Yes, that was his reasoning.
It had to be said that the elder Mr. Zhan was thinking quite ahead.
When they left the Club, night had already fallen.
Under the streetlight, Zhan Mingyan sipped on the hot drink Bai Jue had bought for her. The gentle moonlight elongated her shadow, and she childishly stepped on the shadows of the trees, her lips curled in a youthful smile.
