Jian Qing lowered her head and kissed his forehead, “Fool, why would Shen Hao ignore you? He’s just being petulant, it will be alright soon. He’s just not used to sleeping without you by his side yet, go down and have dessert with Shen Hao.”
Seventeen shook his head, “I want to sleep.”
Because Shen Hao was sulking, he hadn’t been able to sleep at school at noon.
“Okay, then Mommy will accompany you.” Jian Qing put him on the bed, then lay down beside him, “Shall Mommy read you a storybook?”
“Mhm.” Seventeen nodded his head and nestled into her embrace.
After coaxing Seventeen to sleep, Jian Qing quietly left the bedroom.
“Mom, where’s Shen Hao?”
“He’s outside with Snowball,” Rhee said.
Jian Qing strode out, seeing Shen Hao sitting on the porch steps, with Snowball crouched beside him, keeping him company.
His little figure seemed even lonelier.
“Shen Hao!”
Hearing someone call him, Shen Hao turned his head, saw Jian Qing, and ran over to her.
“Mommy!”
Jian Qing bent down to pick him up, hmm, he was a bit heavy.
“Shen Hao, why did you run to the door to sit?”
Shen Hao pouted, “Waiting for Daddy.”
Seeing the little guy was in a bad mood, Jian Qing smiled faintly, “Are you waiting for Daddy or for Seventeen?”
“Waiting for Daddy,” Shen Hao said sullenly.
The little one was quite stubborn.
Jian Qing laughed softly and carried him inside, “Daddy will come back late today, so let’s go in.”
During dinner, everyone noticed Seventeen was missing.
“Little Qingqing, where is Seventeen?”
“He’s sleeping, I’ll go check on him,” said Jian Qing.
Quan Jingwu reached out to stop her, “I’ll go, you keep eating.”
With that, he stood up and walked upstairs.
Shen Hao sat beside Jian Qing, holding a spoon and eating by himself.
Before long, Quan Jingwu came down hurriedly.
“Xiaojing, what’s wrong?”
Hearing the noise, Jian Qing put down her chopsticks and walked out.
“Seventeen has a low fever,” Quan Jingwu said in a steady voice.
Jian Qing’s expression changed slightly, “Then we should hurry to the hospital.”
“No need, I’ve asked Shen Hao to bring a doctor over.”
“Then I’ll go up and see Seventeen.”
Jian Qing rushed upstairs. Upon hearing the conversation, Quan Jingwu’s father and the others lost their appetite and left the dining room.
“How did he get a fever, is it serious?” asked Rhee.
“Low fever,” Quan Jingwu said.
Shen Hao stood at the doorway of the dining room, his delicate little face crumpled up upon hearing that Seventeen was sick.
In the bedroom, the doctor administered an injection to Seventeen and then left some pills before departing.
Seventeen’s little plush face bloomed with an abnormal flush, delicate eyebrows faintly furrowed. Perhaps due to the illness, he clung to Jian Qing, his tender little hand gripping tightly onto hers.
Jian Qing simply picked him up and wrapped him in a blanket, “Be good, Mommy is here, don’t be afraid.”
Quan Jingwu brought in the porridge he had prepared, with Shen Hao following behind him.
“Little Seventeen, Daddy has made some porridge for you; let’s have some porridge first,” Jian Qing touched his forehead, which still had a slight fever.
Quan Jingwu pulled a chair over, sat down, held the bowl, and started feeding him with a spoon.
Nineteen stood at the foot of the bed, watching Little Seventeen’s weak state, and felt a pang of guilt for the first time in his tender heart.
At school, he and Little Seventeen shared a bed, and during naptime, he hogged the entire blanket while the air conditioning was on, which is why Little Seventeen caught a cold and fever without the blanket.
After eating half a bowl of porridge, Little Seventeen didn’t want anymore, and Quan Jingwu didn’t insist; he tidied up the bowls and took them out.
“Little Seventeen, lie down here for a bit. Mommy is going to take a shower and will come back to be with you soon,” Jian Qing propped Little Seventeen up in the bed and said gently.
Little Seventeen nodded.
Jian Qing grabbed some clothes and walked into the bathroom while Nineteen immediately climbed onto the bed and then swiftly snuggled up to Little Seventeen.
Little Seventeen looked at him, puzzled, his voice soft and raspy, “Nineteen!”
Nineteen pulled the blanket over Little Seventeen, smiled with his cherry red little mouth, and then took out a piece of candy from his pocket and put it into Little Seventeen’s hand.
“Brother, eat some candy, then the medicine won’t taste bitter.”
Nineteen usually liked to call him Little Seventeen and seldom called him ‘brother.’
Looking at the candy in the palm of his hand, Little Seventeen clenched it tight, his smile beaming, “Nineteen, are you not mad at me anymore?”
Nineteen scratched his little head, feeling embarrassed, “I’m not mad, Little Seventeen, it’s my fault. Shall we sleep together tonight?”
“Mhm.” Little Seventeen nodded, his eyes curving into a smile.
“Let’s sleep with Mommy tonight and let Daddy sleep by himself,” Nineteen concocted a little scheme to kick Quan Jingwu out of the bedroom.
It was all Daddy’s fault, the villain who separated him from Little Seventeen.
Little Seventeen indulged his little brother with no limits, “Okay.”
When Jian Qing came out of the bathroom, she saw the two little treasures cuddling together as before, holding each other and playing, and couldn’t help but chuckle.
She carelessly ran her fingers through her half-dry hair, her body releasing the fragrance of shower gel.
“Mommy, can we sleep with you tonight?” Nineteen asked, looking up.
Jian Qing agreed, and the two little treasures excitedly tumbled on the bed.
“Long live Mommy!”
The next time they met, Chu Yihen realized how truly difficult it was to forget someone completely.
But now, he was trying hard to learn how to let go.
Having arranged to meet someone here for business, Chu Yihen stood at the entrance of the restaurant, his gaze paused as he looked at the person sitting by the window.
After a long while, he took back his gaze and stepped forward.
“Little Seventeen, try this,” Jian Qing placed a little dessert in front of Little Seventeen, raised her eyes, and upon seeing the person approaching, she indifferently shifted her gaze.
“It’s been a long time, Jian Qing!” Chu Yihen’s eyes flashed a relieved smile as he looked at Little Seventeen beside her.
“Can I talk to you for a moment?”
Jian Qing spoke softly, “Sit down.”
“Although this apology is a bit late, I think I still should say it,” Chu Yihen spoke to her evenly, his gaze no longer carried the hint of conquest.
“I’m sorry for the trouble I caused you before. Honestly, Jian Qing, at first, I only wanted to compete with Quan Jingwu, but my feelings for you turned genuine eventually.”
In the recent period, he had been to many places and thought a lot, and he had finally understood that affection was not about taking, and her happiness was indeed the best outcome.
Jian Qing listened quietly, without a ripple in her eyes.
“About Ruohan, I want to apologize to you on her behalf, and also thank you.” He knew she had already found out he had hidden Ruohan abroad, but her not pursuing it meant she was willing to spare Ruohan, and logically, this thank you was something he owed her.
Jian Qing hummed in response, offering no further words.
Chu Yihen tasted the bitterness in his mouth as he stood up, “I wish you happiness!”
The tall figure walked away, exuding a sense of ease and a trace of melancholy.
Jian Qing lifted her coffee and took a light sip, the corners of her lips curving into a gentle arc.
Stepping outside, Chu Yihen and Quan Jingwu crossed paths.
