Chapter 93: Chapter 91: The Rat People’s Uprising

"Why are there so many mouse-people?" Lois smashed another mouse-person’s head with a punch, and when she looked up, she saw the mine still spewing out mouse-people nonstop, which made her feel somewhat desperate.

After Lu Hong rushed into the mine, Lois was at the forefront of the Battle Scar Mercenary Group, having killed more mouse-people than she could count. Think of it as cutting meat; one cut isn’t tiring, but several thousand, definitely, will wear you out. Moreover, mouse-people have decent defensive abilities, so to kill with a single punch requires consuming a significant amount of internal energy.

Standing outside the mine, Lois didn’t dare use a skill with too much destructive power. Once a collapse was triggered, Lu Hong and those previously trapped in the mine would surely die.

"Vice-Captain, what should we do?" Even Lois couldn’t stand such consumption; the situation for her subordinates was, understandably, even worse, as they had been fighting to the point of exhaustion. The person speaking could barely hold his weapon steady with his trembling hands, and he bore deep bone-showing wounds from mouse-people attacks.

"Are you okay?" Lois asked her trusted aide with concern.

"I can kill a couple more, but I’m close to my limit too. The enemy’s numbers are overwhelming, almost infinite. We are short on people. Should we quickly retreat and call for backup from headquarters, to have the second and fourth groups come over?"

It had to be said, the suggestion from Lois’s trusted aide was the best choice under the current circumstances, but Lois refused to give up. Firstly, requesting help would mean the mine vein no longer belonged solely to their third group but would be shared among all Battle Scar groups. Secondly, seeking assistance was seen as disgraceful. Besides, with Lu Hong still inside, retreating would be akin to abandoning him and the brothers trapped in the mine. Was that really the right thing to do?

As Lois hesitated, an overwhelming horde of mouse-people had surrounded them.

At that moment, the mouse-person general swaggered out of the mine, dragging two large hammers, and disdainfully said to Lois and the others, "So you’re the little brothers of my hero?"

"Hero?" Seeing the mouse-person general, the mercenaries were on high alert. Lois was prepared to take down the leader first but stumbled, almost losing her footing, at the mention of "hero."

"The handsome guy wearing a bathrobe, holding a red giant sword," the mouse-person general gestured and then asked, "Do you recognize him?"

"The bathrobe... yes, I recognize him." Lois knew who it was, Lu Hong. Tonight, he was the only one who had come wearing the bathrobe of the inn.

"Good, that’s right. My hero has said that everyone inside is still alive. He wants you to wait here and stop fighting."

Lois narrowed her eyes, staring at the mouse-person general, "Why should I believe you?"

"Because I’ve brought these people out to you. Does that work?" The mouse-person general waved his hand, and the students who had worked in the mine, along with the people from Harg Mountain, were led out.

"Vice-Captain!" Harg Mountain hurriedly rushed to Lois, dropping to his knees: "I was wrong, please forgive me this once!"

"Forgive my ass!" Anger surged within Lois, and she smacked Harg Mountain, knocking him unconscious.

"Take them away," Lois ordered after knocking out Harg Mountain and commanded that the people brought out by the mouse-people be taken back to the small town. Then she continued the standoff with the mouse-person general, "Where’s this hero you speak of? Why hasn’t he come out?"

"My hero, he is currently plotting a huge plan with me and can’t come to see you now. But rest assured, as long as you don’t enter the mine, we won’t attack you," said the mouse-person general, before turning around and crawling back into the mine.

"You!" Lois wanted to pursue but the slowly surging mouse-person army forced her to retreat. Numbers were a nuisance; they could become a calamity!

"Hero, I’ve arrived." The mouse-person general pushed open a door, entering alongside another mouse-person general.

"This is my good brother, the Lance General."

The one with the hammer was the Hammer General, and the one with the lance was the Lance General, plus the initially killed Mace General—the mouse-people were not known for picking resounding names.

Lu Hong nodded and asked, "Is everything ready?"

"Heh heh, everything is according to your commands. We first took over Mace General’s subordinates, and now I’ve convinced Lance General. Now, under Rat King’s command, only the Axe General and his loyal guard remain. We still have an absolute advantage in numbers," the Hammer General said as he rubbed his hands. "So, hero, should we take action immediately?"

"No rush," Lu Hong shook his head, "You mentioned that there’s a Lionheart of the royal family living here, right? Without dealing with him, we’re doomed to fail."

"This... Is the Lionheart royal family that powerful?" Forgive Hammer General for always living underground; they knew nothing of surface affairs.

Lu Hong shot a glance at the Hammer General, "Of course. Do you believe he could annihilate your whole Rat Nest by himself?"

The Lance General, standing nearby, spoke up, "Then what should we do?" He believed that Lu Hong must have a solution; otherwise, he wouldn’t be sitting down continuing discussions.

"Well, let’s take a gamble," Lu Hong touched his chin, "You first send someone to invite this Lionheart royal away, and negotiate with him. Ask him not to take any action when you seize power, and then won’t our chance come?"

"What price must be paid? Will he agree?" the Spear General asked doubtfully.

"It’s up to you to negotiate that," Lu Hong said as he closed his eyes, "Once you take care of the Lionheart royal family, we can strike the Imperial Palace and seize control of the Rat King’s Nest!"

"I’ll go!" After careful consideration, the Hammer General, accustomed to hard work, volunteered for the task.

He then left his general’s manor and headed straight for the Han Residence Hall, home to the Lionheart royal family.

The Ratmen’s Nest was actually quite vast; they continually dug deep beneath the ground, and the size of the Rat King’s Nest had already far exceeded the area occupied by one city of the Holy Divine Empire. Moreover, the Rat King’s Nest was not only expansive in size but also deep in vertical structure, consisting of upper and lower chambers.

Interestingly, though, despite the unrestricted expansion of the Rat King’s Nest in all directions, they almost never worked towards the town. It was unknown whether they encountered the powerful Caesar or simply couldn’t dig through the soil beneath the town.

"General Hammer pays his respects to the Imperial Envoy!" General Hammer quickly arrived at the residence of the Lionheart royal family, bowing before he even entered the door, thus observing the proper etiquette.

"Please come in." The Lionhearted Beastman opened the door, and although surprised by General Hammer’s visit, he let him into the house.

"May I inquire if the Empire’s envoy finds his stay comfortable here recently?" No sooner had both men sat down, that General Hammer began with pleasantries.

"Oh, everything is very satisfactory, General Hammer, please extend my thanks to your Rat King," replied the Lionhearted Beastman, nodding patiently without pressing for the reason behind the unsolicited visit.

The other party was not in a hurry, but Hammer couldn’t afford to wait. He took the initiative and said, "Well, your Excellency, there’s something I’d like to discuss with you."

"Hmm? What is it? You may speak freely, General Hammer."

"General Spear and I, along with a large faction of the Ratmen nobility, are dissatisfied with the Rat King’s brutal rule over the past few years. We’ve decided to overthrow his regime and bring peace to the Rat Nest."

"Hm! Quite idealistic and ambitious, but what does this have to do with me?" the Lionhearted Beastman asked, puzzled.

"I’m concerned that during our execution of the tyrant, you may launch an attack against us without knowing the situation, which would delay our plans."

The Lionhearted Beastman replied indifferently, "I see. However, the Rat King and I have a deal, and if he calls for help, I cannot refuse him."

"What kind of deal do you have with the Rat King? As long as we successfully overthrow the Rat King’s rule, we’ll reward you with double what he promised!" General Hammer knew this was a bluff to intimidate his counterpart, so he straightaway doubled the Lionhearted Beastman’s potential profit.

"Double? That seems a little low. If I help the Rat King quell the rebellion, do you think he’d reward me with triple the payment?" The Lionhearted Beastman saw an opportunity to drive a hard bargain.

Triple or more? General Hammer slammed the table in anger and shouted, "Don’t be too greedy!"

"And what will you do about it?" The Lionhearted Beastman’s eyes turned cold, and with the might of a beast king, he overwhelmed General Hammer, who stumbled and fell to the ground. He now believed Lu Hong’s words that this one man could slaughter the entire Ratmen’s Nest!

"I—I mean sixfold, we’ll pay you six times the original amount," General Hammer quickly corrected himself, hoping to regain his composure after being outmatched.

"That would be satisfactory," the Lionhearted Beastman said, nodding in approval. "Then I shall stay in this Han Residence Hall for the next few days, awaiting your good news."

"Good, good," General Hammer didn’t want to stay a moment longer and hurriedly left. Although the negotiation hadn’t gone exactly as desired, it did achieve its practical purpose.

"Boss, it’s taken care of!" General Hammer returned to his manor, changed his clothes, and made sure he looked presentable so that no one would notice his disheveled appearance.

"That was fast?" It had only been a bit over an hour, yet General Hammer had already returned with good news.

"Of course! When has General Hammer ever failed?" He patted his chest and said, "Now that the biggest problem is resolved, shouldn’t we start the uprising?"

"Let’s move out," Lu Hong nodded and stood up to leave.

Seeing Lu Hong ready to arm himself and take action, General Hammer quickly asked, "Wait, boss, shouldn’t we first plan the attack strategy?"

"Plan my ass. Just follow me straight to the Imperial Palace, enough with this nonsense."

"Right! Just fight our way through. Our forces far outnumber the Rat King’s, what need is there for any complicated plans?" To General Spear, humans were the epitome of cunning and intelligence; if he said it, it had to be right. So he nodded in agreement and stepped out of the manor to command his subordinates, "Gather all our brothers, tonight we celebrate in the Imperial Palace!"

With the orders given by the two generals, the Ratmen’s Nest seemed to experience a significant earthquake, as over ten million Ratmen emerged and swarmed from all directions towards the Imperial Palace.
