Chapter 87: Chapter 85 Arriving in Time
"Look, Lai Li, I really have to thank you this time." Back on the search path, Lu Hong thought for a moment and said to Lai Li, "If it weren’t for your willingness to come over, I’m afraid I would have been captured by the rebels as soon as I teleported to Stone Moss City."
"No way, you’re so clever, and with the bloodline of the lionheart, you might not be able to beat a Second Transition profession, but if you’re set on escaping with your life, there shouldn’t be a problem," Lai Li stated the facts very objectively.
"Cough, cough." Lu Hong saw that Lai Li was unappreciative and continued, "Even if I had escaped the rebel pursuit, the Nansha Great Forest is fraught with peril. Forget about rescuing anyone, I couldn’t even protect myself if I went in. I must thank you for that."
Lai Li asked doubtfully, "Do you really want to take credit for me?"
"Hehe." Lu Hong chuckled and said, "I’m telling the truth, the truth. So I’ve decided to repay you."
"Repay me? How?"
With a mischievous smile, Lu Hong asked, "My little bro Lock Fan isn’t bad, right?"
Lai Li’s flying figure shook in midair, and then she asked Lu Hong irritably, "Why are you bringing him up all of a sudden? Mention it again, and I’ll drop you!"
"Don’t, don’t, I just wanted to play matchmaker for you two."
"Match my ass! I’m immortal and he’s not suitable for me." Lai Li snorted coldly, "Do you want me to suffer from longing after he dies? I refuse to end up like my father."
"That’s a real shame," Lu Hong shook his head, then suggested, "What if I made Lock Fan achieve Divine Enthronement? Wouldn’t he be immortal then?"
"Divine Enthronement? Did you forget what just happened? All three of your warrior profession’s principales failed, how could Lock Fan possibly succeed?" Lai Li did not believe it at all, and since the Era of the Gods, no more Heavenly Gods had appeared—becoming a god was just a legend.
"Just saying, you never know." Before Lu Hong could finish his sentence, a green beam of light shot straight into the sky far in the distance, turning a vast swath of forest into a sea of fire.
"There’s a fight ahead, it’s Demon force," Lai Li sharply detected the identity of the foe, "The Hell Cult."
Lu Hong immediately said, "Let’s hurry over."
When Lai Li and Lu Hong arrived at the scene of the battle, they saw Lando lying on the ground with a gloomy blue dagger plunged into her abdomen.
And Lando’s hands were tightly clutching Nono’s neck, "I didn’t expect you to return to the Empire at this time."
The person standing opposite Lando was shrouded in a black cloak that concealed their face, and their stooped posture made it clear that this was probably an old person. How could such a mysterious old figure easily defeat Lando, who was nearing the level of a Tower Master?
"Release Princess Fina, and I’ll leave you a complete corpse," the old man’s voice was hoarse and extremely grating.
"Eh?" Before Lando could speak, the old man spotted the approaching Lai Li and shot out three dark flashes.
"Starting with a killing blow is not nice, is it, Your Excellency Tower Master?" Lai Li summoned the Power of Soul to block the three deadly moves and landed firmly on the ground.
"Is that you?" The old man clearly recognized Lai Li and asked, "What brought you back here?"
"Just like you, to save the princess," Lai Li pointed at the unconscious Nono in Lando’s arms.
"I was just passing by and lent a hand. Since you’re here to save her, I’ll take my leave first." This old man really didn’t mince his words; stepping back, he vanished like a ghostly shadow from everyone’s sight.
"Who was that?" Lu Hong got up from the ground, just having been unceremoniously dropped by Lai Li upon her landing.
"That’s the Tower Master of the Black Tower, Che Berlin," Lai Li’s gaze turned towards the injured Lando, "Hand over Princess Fina."
"You wish! Do you think I don’t know? Once I hand over the princess, I’m as good as dead," Lando said in a heavy voice. Her agitation at the situation caused pain in her abdomen where the dagger was; it had been poisoned and also been enchanted by the Tower Master with a skill that rended the wound, preventing Lando from concentrating to heal herself, worsening the injury over time.
"Lando, do you still recognize me?" Lu Hong stepped in front of Lai Li and asked in a deep voice.
"Hehehe, of course, I recognize you, my little man," Lando laughed, "But is it really okay for us to acknowledge each other under these circumstances?"
"There’s nothing wrong with it."
"You surprise me. Are you here to rescue her too?" Lando gestured towards Nono in her hands as she spoke.
Lu Hong nodded and said, "Indeed, I’ve come to rescue Nono, so please let her go."
"Let her go? If I do, who would spare me?" Lando said reluctantly, "If it weren’t for running into Che Berlin by chance, I would have already taken Fina back to the Hell Cult."
"Let Nono go quickly, I promise you’ll live," Lu Hong said sternly.
Lando’s tone carried a hint of resentment, "No, I won’t let her go. I want her to die with me!"
"You!" Lu Hong said angrily, "After all, we’ve known each other for some time. Can’t we work something out?"
"No!" Lando sneered, "If you don’t let me leave, I’ll make sure she goes down with me."
"Alright, alright, just calm down," Lu Hong quickly said as Lando’s abdominal wound widened with her agitated tone, the blood staining her entire gauze dress, which made Lu Hong feel a surge of pity. "We won’t make a move. Please treat your wound first. Once your injury stabilizes, we can talk slowly."
Saying this, Lu Hong turned to Lai Li and said, "Do you have any potent antidotes? Give me a bottle."
"What for? You want to save her?" Lai Li was stunned, failing to grasp what Lu Hong was thinking.
"Quick, consider it a favor owed," urged Lu Hong.
"Yes, yes, yes," Lai Li didn’t argue with Lu Hong. She knew Lu Hong wasn’t a fool; he must have his reasons for doing this.
Taking the antidote from Lai Li’s hand, Lu Hong didn’t dare to move closer but chose to toss the bottle in front of Lando.
"This is for me?" Lando picked up the antidote, and a touch of color returned to her pale face, and her dim eyes started to shine again.
"What else would I do that for? Hurry up and treat your wound! The freaking Tower Master’s poison - if you don’t do anything about it, you’re done for!" Lu Hong shouted, frustrated by how much trouble this woman was causing.
"Hehe~" Lando, clutching the antidote, laughed wildly before setting Nono free and tossing her to Lu Hong, "Catch, my little man."
"Eh? Weren’t we going to negotiate more in a bit?" Lu Hong was startled, catching the unconscious Nono and gently lowering her to the ground.
"I just felt better all of a sudden, is that a problem!" Lando laughed, "Come on, my little man, I want to lean on you to heal."
"Hey, sure thing," Lu Hong casually ran over to Lando and scooped her into his embrace.
Watching this scene, Lai Li had no doubts about the nature of their relationship; so Lando was Lu Hong’s mistress!
With her extensive knowledge, Lai Li imagined the ambiguous relationship between Lu Hong and Lando, and rather than seeing Nono as an important target of the Hell Sect, Lai Li believed she came to catch a mistress. Both Lu Hong and Nono clearly had a connection, probably discovered by Lando, who became jealous and personally took it upon herself to travel to Stone Moss City to capture Nono.
"I can’t watch this anymore!" Lai Li picked up Nono and turned to leave, feeling completely sickened by their lovey-dovey display as someone who’d been single for thousands of years.
"My little man, your chest is still as comfortable as ever. Tell me! After I left, how many women have lain on it!" Lando rested on Lu Hong’s chest, completely dropping her guard, and asked with a hint of melancholy.
"No way, just you," Lu Hong definitely wouldn’t be foolish enough to tell Lando about the absurd events that had gone down in Adventurer Town.
"The young lady who came with you also has something to do with you, right?" Lando, satisfied with Lu Hong’s previous answer, moved on to the next question.
"No, she’s my brother’s wife, so she’s my sister-in-law. I couldn’t possibly sink that low, could I?" Lu Hong quickly denied any involvement with Lai Li, although this was in fact the truth.
"Good, that’s good," Lu Hong’s response passed the test, then came the ultimate challenge: "And what about Princess Fina? She’s been mentioning you throughout the journey." Lando lifted her head, her eyes narrowing slightly, her expression very unfriendly.
"Uh... well, there is a bit of a thing, but she’s the one who’s infatuated with me; I haven’t agreed to anything. I had you first, after all," Lu Hong’s brain spun fast as he reluctantly chose the best answer for the current situation.
"Forget it, even if you two had something, what of it? I don’t expect much." Lando leaned back into Lu Hong’s embrace, "Little man, do you know? I was so surprised to see you come, but you asked for Fina right away, which made me very angry. You didn’t care about me at all."
"Don’t be like that, you got that all wrong. I wanted you to let Nono go so that you could treat your injury more conveniently."
"Mmm," Lando murmured softly, then fell silent, concentrating on suppressing the poison and the skills attached to the azure dagger.
Phew~
Lu Hong let out a breath of relief. This was like a trio of death questions; one wrong answer and Lando might have exploded into rage.
Now he understood why Lando had been so determined to hold onto Nono and drag him into her death - it was out of jealousy.
But now that was resolved, Nono was no longer in mortal danger, and it was a good thing they’d arrived in time; otherwise, who knows what Che Berlin might have done.
Apart from Danni, who still held some affection for the empire, the other six Tower Masters were not bound by it. Che Berlin’s primary goal in encountering Lando might not have been to rescue Princess Nono, but purely to kill the second-in-command of the Hell Sect.
Of course, saving the princess would be ideal, but if it wasn’t possible, Che Berlin likely wouldn’t care too much.
So, Lu Hong was very relieved to have arrived in time, and he made another mental note of owing Lai Li a favor, which he would definitely have to repay in the future!
