Chapter 658: Chapter 145: Returning to the Ancient Dreams (37)

Gui He, discarded by the roadside, struggled several times but was unable to get up.

The integration of his bloodline and lifeblood indeed did grant him greater power, but his just-recovered consciousness had yet to gain control over his body. Now, Gui He could only talk, blink, and spasmodically twitch from time to time.

After a long while, the Dragon King finally walked out of Shi Changxin’s room and, seeing Gui He still lying on the ground, initially did not want to bother, yet his heart softened for a moment. He summoned two Beast Battle Hall warriors and had Gui He dragged away to be cared for.

Another night passed, and Gui He finally "logged on," fully controlling his body.

Early in the morning, a Beast Battle Hall warrior entered, carrying a bowl of meat soup.

Seeing Lu Hong standing by the bed, he expressed his surprise, "Hey? You can move now?"

"Mhm, thanks to Brother Xu’s care, otherwise I couldn’t have recovered so quickly." Gui He nodded, taking the meat soup that was handed to him and gulped it down in one go.

"Is there any more?" Gui He was already hungry, and the bowl of meat soup was far from enough.

"Then you’ll come with me to the drill ground. It’s mealtime for everyone now, and you can eat as much as you want."

Brother Xu led Gui He all the way to the Beast Battle Hall’s drill ground.

The Beast Battle Hall had an excellent martial training tradition, and every morning was a time for collective training for the Beast Battle Hall warriors, starting at six o’clock.

After two hours of intense morning training, those robust beastmen warriors were also ravenously hungry. At this point, pots of delicious meat were brought to the center of the drill ground, and everyone gathered around to eat meat and boast loudly, quickly deepening their camaraderie with each other.

This was a distinctive and effective method of the Dragon King’s training: every soldier held deep fellow-feeling for their comrades. Among the beastmen, there’s an adage that goes, as long as you’ve joined the Beast Battle Hall, you never need to worry about having your back from that day on.

"Xu Du, hurry up, I’ve saved you a big piece!"

Seeing Xu Du from afar, the warriors of the Beast Battle Hall began to shout.

Gui He followed Xu Du to a round table, where three dishes were laid out: a steaming pot of meat soup, a basin of buns the size of a human face, and an unknown mysterious liquid.

"What’s this?" Gui He asked curiously, pointing at the mysterious liquid.

A warrior at the table spoke up, "You can’t drink this. It’s a special Magic Potion concocted by our Beast Battle Hall, something outsiders never even get to see. You’re in luck seeing it today but tasting it... well, we can’t authorize that. Only the Dragon King himself can permit it."

"No problem, just asking." Gui He picked up a bun and ladled himself another bowl of meat soup, eating heartily.

The other warriors at the table paid no attention to Gui He, as if he didn’t exist to them.

But when Gui He ate his fourth bun and drank his sixth bowl, the table began to erupt with activity.

"Hey hey, pretty boy, I see you’ve got a pretty good appetite too!"

The bonds between men can sometimes be so curious. Each warrior in the Beast Battle Hall could eat a lot. If Gui He had come and eaten only a mouthful of bun and a bowl of meat soup, they would have thought him effeminate, unworthy of their friendship.

But seeing Gui He eat as much as them signified he was one of their kind, one of their kind could be friends.

"Yeah, you’re eating even more than us."

Gui He let out a satisfied burp and with a sweep of the hand to everyone around said, "You flatter me, gentlemen."

"No flattery, no flattery. It’s pretty normal to be dried up and drained after being locked up by Sister Chang Xin. Later, the brothers will get you some tonic to properly nourish your body."

Dried up and drained? Gui He was speechless: "Well, these past days I’ve been unconscious, and Sister Chang Xin was just taking care of me."

Though Gui He offered an explanation, who was listening?

Everyone showed an understanding look, utterly unconcerned with what Gui He had said, interpreting it through their ears as ’I’ve had such a hard time being squeezed dry in bed, my waist and kidneys are shot.’

Seeing the continued smiles around him, Gui He thought: Great, it was pointless explaining, better to have said nothing at all.

Some things, the more you explain, the less people believe.

Breakfast ended in a congenial atmosphere.

Just when Gui He was about to think about what to do next, Shi Changxin strode over and bellowed at everyone on the drill ground.

"All personnel, assemble!"

Immediately, the ranks of seven thousand shattered forces moved as one.

Within minutes, the formation was perfectly organized, not a whisper of sound throughout the process, as a steadfast military force leapt into Gui He’s view.

Shi Changxin nodded, "Very well, it seems that none of you have neglected your daily morning drills."

After circling the defeated army, Shi Changxin continued, "This time, I am tasked with a mission and need to select three thousand to accompany me. Those willing, step forward."

No sooner had Shi Changxin’s voice fallen than all seven thousand soldiers stepped forward in unison.

Seeing such unity among the soldiers, Shi Changxin fell into silence before finally speaking, "This mission could be extremely difficult, with a casualty rate of up to eighty percent. Those with family dependents, step back."

However, as Shi Changxin’s words hung in the air, not a single person retreated.

Shi Changxin frowned, "What are you doing? Trying to show brotherhood in front of me? Get back!"

With that rebuke, Shi Changxin used her bloodline power, booming like thunder beside one’s ear.

Yet the soldiers stood firm, undaunted by the pressure Shi Changxin brought, refusing to step back.

Seeing this, Shi Changxin said no more and began to select soldiers according to her needs.

Soon, three thousand were chosen.

"This afternoon, rest up. We set off tonight. Everyone is dismissed!" After dealing with the affairs, Shi Changxin turned to Gui He, "Are you ready?"

Gui He stepped forward, bowing to Shi Changxin, "My body is no longer in distress, thank you, Sister Chang Xin, for coming to my aid."

"Don’t thank me; I just couldn’t stand those wastes of space who do nothing but squabble for pleasure in the capital and are useless against the beast clan. I merely took the opportunity to teach them a lesson through your incident."

"No matter, Sister Chang Xin, you ultimately helped me. If you ever have a task requiring assistance, Gui He will give his utmost to help."

"Uh huh..." Initially, Shi Changxin took Gui He’s promise seriously, but then she said, "If you really want to repay me, then follow me on this mission."

"Okay." Gui He agreed without hesitation.

"Aren’t you going to ask what we’re going to do?" Shi Changxin thought to herself in annoyance. The soldiers didn’t ask, and even this pretty boy in front of her didn’t question it—wasn’t anyone taking their lives seriously?

"This life was saved by you."

Shi Changxin glared at Gui He, "What if I was leading people to annihilate your turtle clan?"

"That won’t happen," Gui He said with a smile, "To annihilate the turtle clan, you wouldn’t need three thousand soldiers, nor would there be any casualties."

Well played, Gui He had a firm grasp of racial strengths and weaknesses.

"Since you’ve agreed, then depart with the army tonight."

As Shi Chang Xin was about to leave, Gui He stopped her, "Sister Chang Xin, do you have an armory here? I’d like to borrow some fitting weapons."

Ever since becoming an Angry Blood Warrior, Lu Hong’s instruction had been in dual-sword techniques, and the Angry Blood Warrior class was best suited to heavy swords, so Gui He had yet to find an opportunity to find a fitting sword.

Given the task’s difficulty, even Shi Changxin found it a challenge, so Gui He did not hesitate to ask.

"San!" Shi Changxin called a warrior over, "Take him to the armory. If there are no suitable weapons, have Master Su An forge one on the spot."

Hearing that they could forge on the spot, Gui He lost interest in even entering the armory, gripped the array pattern designs given by Lu Hong, and sought the Beast Battle Hall’s master forger, Su An.

"I am Gui He, pleased to meet Master Su An," Gui He greeted respectfully, knowing of the master forger’s renown in the capital, with many mighty warriors wielding weapons crafted by his hand.

"So, what do you want to forge?" After San explained the purpose, Master Su An did not decline.

"I’d like to request two heavy swords to be crafted according to the specifications I’ve written down," Gui He said, with his current arm strength in mind.

Taking the designs, Su An was deeply captivated by the array patterns inscribed upon them and couldn’t help but question, "What’s this?"

"This is an array pattern bestowed upon me by my master, to be engraved upon the sword blade, providing some magic protection."

"There is such a thing?" Master Su An, unaware of this technique, showed great interest, "Is your master a forging master?"

"Possibly," Gui He did not deny, lest the origin of the array become a subject of investigation.

After studying the array pattern closely, Master Su An expressed admiration, "Your master truly is a prodigy beyond my reach."

With the mystic array patterns revealed, Master Su An became even more amiable. After all, understanding the patterns was akin to learning the production of the array for himself. In other words, once Su An learned this array pattern, he could be considered as half a disciple of Gui He.
