Chapter 474: Chapter 227: A Sideways Glance
Li Rong felt incredibly uneasy upon sensing the phantom of the mythical creature, for it seemed to be heading towards the location where his Coexistent Spirit was bound.
Logically speaking, Tu Kurou was a warrior, so he shouldn’t be related to mythical creatures, right?
With every passing second wherein his Coexistent Spirit did not return, Li Rong suffered agonizingly, knowing that if it died, he too would perish in vain.
No, he had to find a way to resolve this issue. Although a Demigod Demon Beast was powerful, he believed he would reach that level one day. By then, looking back at the Coexistent Contract, it would seem like a dereliction of his own life.
As Li Rong pondered over his options, his Coexistent Spirit returned, stepping on thunder, devoid of Di Ti’s oppression, its proud and indifferent demeanor resurfacing.
"Are you alright?" Seeing his Coexistent Spirit return safely, Li Rong finally asked in relief, "Was that the phantom of a mythical creature earlier?"
"Yes," the Spirit replied solemnly, glaring at Li Rong. "You need to take the people of the Wild God Path and head back immediately. Do not interfere with the matters of the Force God Path again. That man is not someone you can afford to offend!"
"Eh?" Li Rong was startled. "What exactly happened?"
"Don’t ask any further!" Naturally, his Coexistent Spirit was unwilling to disclose the details of its consecutive failures and the ease with which it had been suppressed by Di Ti’s phantom.
"But I can’t just explain this away!" Li Rong felt at a loss. Could it really be that Tu Kurou summoned the phantom of a Heavenly God Level Demon Beast? Otherwise, his Coexistent Spirit would not have deliberately meddled in his plans.
"Can’t explain?" His Coexistent Spirit glanced coldly around; the sky changed drastically, and thick bolts of yellow lightning poured down, striking close to the feet of the Wild God Path’s warriors.
"Those who do not comply—die!"
The threat of a Demigod Demon Beast was no joke. For these Wild God Path powerhouses, bullying their equals is feasible, but facing a Demigod... they wouldn’t even suffice to fill its gaps.
"Coexistent Spirit, have you gone mad?!" Li Rong felt powerless. Although they shared a bond, the Spirit maintained significant autonomy, and at this moment, Li Rong had no means to restrain it.
"I am saving you." With a slap of its lethal claw, a torrent of thunderous jail appeared, trapping Li Rong, while its tail curled up, transforming into lightning as it rushed towards the exit of the Force God Path.
As Li Rong was forcefully taken away, the Wild God Path’s warriors looked at each other, wondering what to do.
What else could they do but leave?
"Let’s split up and inform the chiefs, then decide what to do next." After discussing, the warriors decided to first find a few other subordinates under Li Rong’s command to take the lead.
Aragon observed everything, and from his Coexistent Spirit’s attitude, it was clear that the summoning of the mythical creature’s phantom was by Tu Kurou; otherwise, with a Demigod’s mighty power, his Coexistent Spirit wouldn’t have returned so abruptly.
Quite a trump card...
Aragon’s interest in Lu Hong grew stronger, and so he decided to put off his superior’s orders for now. He wanted to see what kind of storm this Tu Kurou could stir up on the Force God Path.
In contrast, Lu Hong, although injured by his Coexistent Spirit breaking open his chest, was protected by anti-magic and had not suffered corruption by the thunderous magic power. It was merely a flesh wound. With a relatively high self-healing ability and after some meditation, Lu Hong’s injuries were no longer serious, but he needed to reduce vigorous movements and rest for a while.
His Bloodthirst power was scattered, and Lu Hong lost his edge against powerful opponents. Moreover, the outer paths beyond the fifth checkpoint were generally on a higher level than those on the Force God Path.
First, he needed to find a place to hide and see what would happen after some time.
After thinking it through, Lu Hong decided to lay low for a while, especially since his recent killings near the fourth checkpoint had likely attracted the attention of many powerful figures. Without the support of his Bloodthirst power, he definitely was no match for them.
With his mind made up, Lu Hong ventured deep into the wilderness and walked for three whole days before finally stopping. He dug a large pit and hid inside.
He carefully camouflaged the entrance to the hole, but a careful step could still reveal its presence.
Two days passed, and within the fifth checkpoint’s territory, a group of powerful beings controlled hundreds of mighty Demon Beasts, chasing Augustus.
Augustus was indeed unlucky, as earlier, he had been ambushed by nearly a hundred external powerhouses and had barely escaped with severe injuries.
Initially, he planned to return to the gathering area of the Force God Path Trialists, but the rapid collapse of those weaklings left no time to escape.
And in the Wild God Temple, with Hunters leading, essentially every person had a hound-type Demon Beast for tracking purposes.
Fifth Lord, a subordinate of Li Rong, was in charge of this mission. He led a group of warriors inside the fifth checkpoint to hunt down Augustus.
Since the trial plane was vast, it was only yesterday that Fifth Lord had managed to uncover Augustus, who was hiding among them.
He hadn’t yet reported to his boss when he received the news of Li Rong being taken away by his Coexistent Spirit.
"Fifth Lord, do we chase or not?" The Wild God Path warriors asked him to make a decision; to chase or to retreat.
"To catch this slippery fellow, we’ve crossed mountains and valleys for months. Just when we found him, the boss runs off—damn it, if we let this guy get away, wouldn’t all our suffering be for nothing?"
"Fifth Lord, you’re right. So, do we chase?"
"Chase!" Fifth Lord slapped his thigh. "Once we’ve captured Augustus, even if we withdraw from the Force God Path, we’ll do so with honor."
Thus, under Fifth Lord’s decision, Augustus was pursued relentlessly for two more days. Now, as the day faded to dusk, just like Augustus’s stamina, he was reaching the brink of exhaustion.
As for his magic power, during the ambush, he had accidentally been hit by a necrotic poison from a Dark God Temple powerhouse, rendering him unable to recover his powers without first eliminating the toxin.
Nearly a hundred wolf-dog Demon Beasts bit tightly onto Augustus, preventing him from escaping or hiding.
As chance would have it, they arrived at the hiding spot of Lu Hong.
By this moment, Lu Hong’s external injuries had already healed, and he was currently in meditation, practicing the Great War Master profession.
The thunderous charge of the Demon Beasts was loud enough to catch Lu Hong’s attention.
Extending his perception of vital blood, he gained a rough understanding of the situation on the ground.
It appeared that a group of strongmen from the Wild God Temple were in pursuit of an enemy. Whether this person was a friend or foe was unknown to Lu Hong, but from his senses, the person was depleted of Magic Power and on the verge of physical exhaustion, hardly a concern.
Hadn’t he told Li Rong to lead the people to retreat from the Power God Path?
Was it that Ming Ling did not relay the message, or did Li Rong refuse?
Regardless, since they had defied his will, death was warranted.
Of course, Lu Hong had no intention of directly confronting these aggressively strong men and quickly summoned the War Holy Sword, hiding underground while gradually building up power.
The wolves on the surface were completely unaware of the looming danger, their gaze fixed on the target commanded by their master, getting closer and closer, nearly within grasp.
And those following the wolves, including the fifth master and others, sensed terrifying fluctuations emanating from the ground not far away.
"Fifth master?!"
"I see it," the fifth master chuckled lowly. "Bring that trickster out for your master!"
"Understood!" His followers summoned their own tamed powerful Demon Beasts, and under command, the beasts employed their ultimate Skills, bombarding the area where Lu Hong was hiding.
But it was too late. The War Holy Sword’s power had accumulated sufficiently.
With a flash of extreme brilliance suddenly activating.
Silver-white sword light surged from the depths of the earth, instantly crumbling the attacks from the rushing Demon Beasts.
The fifth master widened his eyes, a single strike breaking through the attack of a hundred beasts; what kind of formidable person had he provoked?
"I bloody—"
He hadn’t even finished his curse when the sword light passed by, cutting him in two!
Seizing the opportunity, Lu Hong burst from the ground, Bloodthirst unleased once more, absorbing the vital blood of a hundred strongmen into his body, the ferocious ghost face appearing again, eyeing the wolves behind him, lost and confused without their master, as bloodthirsty desires surged in Lu Hong’s heart.
Originally, suppressing such evil thoughts would have required some effort from Lu Hong, but after the trials and tribulations along the way, such evil thoughts were no longer a problem, a mere flicker of will and the ghost face settled down.
The wolves, confused, frightened by the ghost face staring intently at them, tucked their tails and trembled. As for Augustus, hearing the disturbance behind him and looking back, what was going on? Weren’t hundreds of people chasing him? Where did they go? He could see none.
And what about the huge cracks over the wilderness, and the vibration of space tearing—what was that?
As a Space Mage, Augustus had exceedingly keen eyesight and could tell that the attack creating the space rift was not a spatial Skill, but was a display of sheer destructive power, tearing space apart.
With this thought, Augustus looked towards Lu Hong with a hint of reverence.
A thousand-meter-long slash, annihilating strongmen and splitting space, exhibiting such formidable skill was not of the ordinary, and this person was also his savior.
Switching to the Blood Holy Sword, a wave of Blood River surged forth, the leaderless wolves severely weakened, and unable to escape a thousand meters, were smashed and devoured completely by the massive waves of the Blood River.
After dealing with the strongmen from the Wild God Path, Lu Hong withdrew his surrounding aura and approached Augustus.
"Thank you, sir, for the rescue. I am deeply grateful!"
Ignoring Augustus’ gratitude, Lu Hong asked, "What is your name, and are you a Trialist from the Power God Path?"
"I am Augustus, indeed a Trialist from the Power God Path, and may I ask you—"
"Oh?" Lu Hong had seen Augustus’ name on the leaderboard of the third challenge, and he had reached the ninety-first level on the fourth challenge leaderboard—a remarkable person.
Upon knowing his identity, Lu Hong relaxed his guard and smiled, "I am Tu Kulu, also a Trialist from the Power God Path."
"Tu Kulu?" Augustus widened his eyes. "You are Tu Kulu?"
"What? Do I not look like it?"
"No no no," Augustus shook his head. "At first, I only heard from friends about your strong breakthrough in the third challenge. I didn’t expect you to be such a strong contender. Had I known earlier, I would have gone to watch outside the third challenge. You and I together—why would we worry about those heretics flourishing on my Power God Path?"
"I heard you are the strongest in our Power God Path. How did you end up in such a sorry state?"
Augustus gave a bitter smile. "I was overconfident. The strongmen from the seven temples attacked together; first, a group wore me down, and then they ambushed me in the valley. It was lucky I survived."
"Well," Lu Hong patted Augustus’ shoulder. "You’ve had a rough time. Stick with me from now on; I’ve got you covered."
"Being acquainted with Brother Tu is truly Augustus’ good fortune."
"Ah, it’s nothing, just trivial. I see you’re seriously injured. Let’s find a place to rest and recover a bit before we continue this conversation."
