Chapter 440: Chapter 194: Strong Reinforcement from the Ophiuchus Plane

The journey through Soul Dream Marsh was long, and Lu Hong and the others could not use teleportation gates; they could only trek through desolate, uninhabited forests. Fortunately, Bai Se had brought over two hundred spatial mages, which resolved the issue.

Looking at the solid teleportation gates opened by the spatial mages, Xie’an bowed with a fist: "Thank you, Lord Bai Se, for your assistance."

Bai Se smiled charmingly: "What are you talking about, General Xie? The empire still relies on you and Lord Baron for support. My assignment to guard the Dragon Tan was precisely for situations like today."

"Dark Guards and the Military Department are both vital halves of the empire," Xie’an agreed wholeheartedly. However, his remark clearly undermined other agencies, such as the most powerful Seven Towers.

One hundred thousand troops were teleported in batches to Soul Dream Marsh, and Lu Hong also planned to go with Xie’an but was stopped by Bai Se.

"Lord Baron," Bai Se called out to Lu Hong, "you should come back to the Dark Guards headquarters with me."

"Right, didn’t you agree to go find Cain for help?"

Watching Xie’an send him away, Lu Hong suddenly remembered: "I almost forgot if you hadn’t mentioned it."

"What have you been up to lately?" Xie’an seemed displeased that such an important matter could be forgotten.

"I feel," Lu Hong frowned slightly, unsure himself, "as if something is off with me."

"General Xie is right, Lord Cain has a wide network and knows many powerful figures. If he agrees to write a letter, he could certainly invite top-tier experts to help resolve the Dragon Tan issue."

"You’re right, then I’ll go with Bai Se!" Lu Hong nodded and left the forest with Bai Se right away.

Watching Lu Hong leave, Xie’an was about to step into the teleportation gate when out of the corner of his eye, he noticed something horrifying.

A breeze lifted the black cloth hiding the mage’s face, revealing part of it... that mage...

Xie’an had an excellent memory. He had definitely seen this mage recently!

"General Xie, aren’t you coming over?"

The spatial mage next to him urged.

Xie’an quickly regained his focus: "I’m coming now."

With that, he took a deep breath, looked at the distorted entrance of the teleportation gate, and stepped in.

Just after Xie’an left, the mages closed the teleportation gate.

The leading man removed the black cloth from his face, his expression extremely somber: "He’s discovered our identities. Send a message to the Iron Soul Army to act immediately!"

Xie’an set foot on the ground and looked up, thankful that the hundred thousand troops hadn’t been ambushed.

"General, shall we set up camp here?" his aide hurried to his side.

"Order the entire army to prepare for battle!" Xie’an commanded resoundingly.

"Battle?!" the aide was stunned.

"Hurry!" At Xie’an’s urging, the sound of the horns blared. The well-trained hundred thousand imperial troops quickly shifted from their lax rest into combat readiness.

Xie’an, facing the neatly arranged army, spoke sternly: "Gentlemen, you might not know why I’ve sounded the battle horn. But I have a premonition that before long, someone will come to ambush us."

"Of course, we could choose to flee, but we can also choose to fight!" Xie’an surveyed his surroundings: "Do you choose to leave, or... to fight to the death!"

As Xie’an’s words fell, the hundred thousand troops shouted in unison: "To the death! To the death!"

No matter who the enemy was, even if it was a Heavenly God, they were not willing to flee in panic.

Deep in Soul Dream Marsh, at that moment, an army in bronze armor was sprinting rapidly. These soldiers glowed with a blue light, their faces unseen, resembling groups of blue ghostly fires, wrapped in heavy iron armors.

Hearing the earth-shaking roars outside Soul Dream Marsh, the ghostly army was exceptionally agitated and quickened their pace toward Xie’an and his men.

After more than ten minutes, accompanied by the rapid footsteps echoing through the white fog, Xie’an and his army stood ready.

When the first bronze ghost soldier burst out of the fog, Xie’an drew his sword and struck, but the thick armor was immovable, and the rebounding force made Xie’an stagger back, the blade of his three-foot green sword becoming notched.

What kind of monster is this?

Xie’an exclaimed in shock: "Prepare for combat!"

The ground thundered, countless bronze ghost soldiers charged out of the mist, clashing fiercely with the imperial army.

Meanwhile, Lu Hong had already followed Bai Se back to the Dark Guards’ underwater base.

"Lord Cain," Bai Se led Lu Hong into Cain’s room.

Lina had just administered medicine to Cain.

Cain glanced at Lu Hong with clear displeasure: "What are you here for?"

Seeing Cain’s sour face, Lu Hong responded irritably: "Hey, hey, I saved you, so how about showing some respect for your savior?"

"Humph!" Cain snorted coldly: "Speak quickly. If you have no business here, please leave."

"Are you eating gunpowder?" Lu Hong asked, puzzled, turning to Lina: "Is your master still going through menopause?"

Lina chuckled: "Lord Baron, you don’t have to be upset with him. My master sometimes just acts a bit childish."

"What, what? You’re calling me childish?" Seeing Lina chastise him in front of Lu Hong, Cain immediately felt his dignity affronted: "Really, women will side outwards—it’s unbelievable how you help an outsider criticize your own master, sigh!"

"Master!" Lina’s face flushed: "What are you talking about!"

Wait, wait, wait... Lu Hong seemed to discern some underlying issues. If he let them continue, would he end up entangled in romantic debts again?

Lu Hong quickly redirected the conversation back to the pressing matter: "I’m here to seek help with resolving the True Dragon issue."

"Me, help you?" Cain shook his head slightly: "The True Dragon has consumed half my Divine Soul, and my physical body is severely injured. It will take at least five years for me to recover. Currently, I probably couldn’t even defeat you."

"What do you mean, I can’t even beat you?" Lu Hong muttered, disinterested in engaging with the old man.

"It’s like this, Lord Cain, you know many powerful figures in the Star Sea. To resolve the current crisis in Dragon’s Pool, it’s obvious we need strong figures to intervene, so we were hoping you could summon some reinforcements to help us suppress the Dragon Spirit." Lina continued where Lu Hong left off and made her request to Cain.

Cain’s attitude towards Lina had noticeably softened, and he pondered, "It’s not that I haven’t thought about this, but it’s hard to find suitable helpers right away. After the advent of ’Divine Blood’, most top-tier powerhouses have gone out to compete, so even if you found them, getting to them is no easy feat."

"Is there really not a single helper we can contact?" Lina was making her last effort.

"There is one, and quite close to Dragon’s Pool," Cain said. "But he might not necessarily come to help."

Lina promptly promised, "Is there any condition he needs? We’ll try our best to meet his requirements."

"He is quite peculiar. I think you should know the name. He is the Star Extreme Sovereign—Ming Kong."

"Star Extreme Sovereign?!" Lina’s eyes brightened upon hearing the name, clearly, this powerful figure met all her requirements.

"Yes, before I came to Dragon’s Pool, I met him in the Ophiuchus Plane. He was contemplating the second secret technique at the time. Even if you went to the Ophiuchus Plane, you’d likely not be able to approach him," Cain said. "Of course, if you can wake him from his meditation, given my years of friendship with him, he will come to help."

"Is there any danger in waking him up?" Lu Hong interjected.

Cain glanced at him and chuckled, "Ophiuchus Plane has his resting palace, filled with numerous powerhouses. If you want to forcefully wake him, try defeating them all. Otherwise, those powerhouses won’t let you near Ming Kong’s secluded place."

"Okay, give me a written message, and I’ll head there immediately."

"Are you really going?" Cain confirmed again, "Do you not know about the forces behind Ming Kong?"

"What forces?" Lu Hong shook his head.

"Idiot." Cain didn’t want to bother with him anymore.

With a light smile, Lina explained to Lu Hong, "Ming Kong is the Hall Master of the Dark God Temple, skilled in various assassination techniques. It is said that any assassination mission undertaken by Ming Kong has never failed."

"Has he ever assassinated a Great Emperor? Or someone like the Lion King or the Snow Realm Emperor?"

Facing Lu Hong’s question, Lina patiently explained, "The Dark God Temple does not act against nations, as they still consider rising power, which invariably means they can’t be enemies with nations. Hence, assassination missions involving military officials from the four major states in the Star Sea are not taken by the Dark God Temple."

"So now that I’m a Baron of the Empire, an important person, the Dark God Temple can’t attack me, right?"

"That’s true," Lina agreed, nodding.

"Hmph! Not killing you doesn’t mean they can’t cripple you," Cain scoffed on the side.

"I say, old man, can’t you stop your bickering? You’ve been nagging me since you walked in; are you addicted to it?!" Unable to restrain himself anymore, Lu Hong rolled up his sleeves to confront him.

"Come on, if you dare, try it. If you don’t kill me, and once I’ve recovered, I will definitely kill you!" Cain, unyielding, also rolled up his sleeves and got out of bed to fight with Lu Hong.

"Master!" At this point, Lina was upset and pushed Cain back, "Can you please stop this nonsense, Baron Lu is discussing serious matters with you."

The more Lina acted this way, the more upset Cain became, his days of observing Lina’s absentminded behavior while Lu Hong was away clearly showed to the seasoned Cain that the girl was lovesick!

"Am I being nonsensical?" Cain felt an indescribable sadness, "You say I’m being nonsensical?"

Seeing Cain defeated, Lu Hong was very amused and smiled at Lina, "It’s quite formal to always call me Baron; you can call me Brother Tu instead."

",,,,,,Yes"

Seeing Lina shyly agreeing, Cain’s face was filled with despair, then suddenly, he had an idea and immediately shouted: "Bring me paper and pen, I’ll write you a letter, now get lost! And don’t ever come back!"

After another bout of arguing, Lu Hong left Cain’s room, satisfied with the written letter in hand.

Stepping out of the bedroom, Lina began arranging Lu Hong’s journey to the Ophiuchus Plane.

The Ophiuchus Plane was indeed not far from Dragon’s Pool, only separated by four planes.

Given that the space array had been damaged by Lu Hong, the Black Guards were still able to open a direct portal to Ophiuchus.

However, the cost of this transportation was... quite substantial.

"Baron, this portal leads to the headquarters of the Black Guards in the Ophiuchus Plane. Please communicate with them immediately upon arrival. The Dark God Temple is hidden; without their help, it may be very hard to find,"

Listening to Lina’s repeated instructions, Lu Hong stepped through the portal and officially arrived at the Ophiuchus Plane.

As soon as he arrived, he heard a rush of hurried footsteps.

Regaining his composure from the spatial turbulence, Lu Hong looked up to see rows of Black Guards surrounding the portal, all drawing their swords.

"I am Baron Yitian, from Dragon’s Pool,"

He said, pulling out an identity token given by Questasa.

After several verifications, the Black Guards sheathed their weapons and respectfully greeted him, "We’ve seen the Baron."

"I see you’re all quite tense; has something happened here?" Logically, the teleportation from the headquarters of the Black Guards shouldn’t have caused such a reaction.

"Yes," the Black Guards replied with a wry smile. "Last month, a powerful figure came through the portal from another realm. He wasn’t one of our Black Guards and wreaked havoc here. It was only with a life-threatening struggle from our leader that we managed to kill him."

"An enemy came through the internal portal of the Black Guards?" Lu Hong was somewhat incredulous.

Seeing that Lu Hong was skeptical, the other party added, "According to investigations, several neighboring plane’s Black Guards had been annihilated, and their portals fell into enemy hands."

"I understand." Though he didn’t know where those neighbors were, the force that annihilated the Black Guards definitely needed attention: "Where is your leader now?"

"Our leader is currently in recuperation at the back. I’ll take you to him."

Following the Black Guards, Lu Hong observed many traces of the great battle within the headquarters. From the extent of the damage, it appeared that the opponent was a mid-stage powerhouse and likely a Third Transition martial artist, the same profession as Tu Hetai.

"Are the neighboring planes closely related to Dragon’s Pool?"

Answering Lu Hong’s question, the Black Guards nodded, "The neighboring planes once served as the backyard for the Keiro family of Dragon’s Pool and have provided many powerhouses to the Keiro family."

Hearing this, Lu Hong had his calculations. Perhaps the attack on the Ophiuchus Plane was also a probe by Keiro into the various Black Guard stations. With that said,... could it be that the headquarters of the Black Guards in Dragon’s Pool has been discovered by West?
