Chapter 435: Chapter 189 Confronting Cain

The Fireball had failed. The combined forces of the Pasa and Xiao Ke family clans encircled Soaring Cloud City, where the defenders made their final resistance.

At that moment, three powerful members of the Cairo family arrived, but the other two families were already prepared, and suddenly six more emerged, intercepting them.

Within an hour, the two family clans had successfully breached Soaring Cloud City.

When they saw the bloodbath inside Soaring Cloud City, Wei Sheng was infuriated to near death, and he swore to the heavens that he would kill Lu Hong.

As for Lu Hong, his mages were still unable to break the Great Soaring Cloud Formation. Left with no other choice, Lu Hong had to give up and lead the remnants of his forces in a rout out of the west gate of Soaring Cloud City.

Lu Hong was ambushed by messages acquired from the Black Guards, and in a moment, he was slain by Cain, marking the Cairo family’s operation against Soaring Cloud City as a total failure.

It wasn’t until the next morning that the Cairo family received news of Lu Hong’s death. This siege on Soaring Cloud City had cost the Cairo family two great generals, with one from each the shadow and public factions dead, truly a damaging blow to their core.

Enraged, the head of the Cairo family did not disperse the assembled army, instead ordering them to continue marching towards Soaring Cloud City.

Seven days later, after regrouping, Cairo’s two million strong army pressed forward, directly threatening Soaring Cloud City.

Pasa and Xiao Ke once again joined forces, activating the Great Soaring Cloud Formation to stand against Cairo’s army.

The Cairo family also worried about reinforcements from the opponents, thus promptly ordering the assault on the city.

Thus, Soaring Cloud City faced its second bloodbath.

As for the specific battle details, Lu Hong had already left, taking Lina to the headquarters of the Black Guards.

After settling Lina, Lu Hong thought back on his previous dealings with Cain and learned from Lina the location of the Great Space Array, and without delay, he rushed to the array.

What he wanted to clarify most now was Cain’s stance.

Although Cain was formidable, Lu Hong believed that with his skill "Heavenly God’s Descent," escaping shouldn’t be a problem.

According to Lina’s directions, Lu Hong arrived at Dragon Lodge Mountain, the heart of Dragon Pond, after five days of travel. Perhaps due to Cain’s absolute power, there were no guards around, and Lu Hong smoothly ascended to the mountaintop.

Atop the mountain was a mysterious Array slowly rotating. Additionally, four people sat at each corner of the Formation, meditating with their eyes closed.

Lu Hong’s arrival woke them, and four gazes locked onto him, causing a tremendous pressure that spontaneously triggered the Blood Qi in Lu Hong’s body to resist the falling oppression.

Most of this mixed oppression came from a white-haired elderly man seated in the east, who must be Lina’s master, Preacher Cain. The other three, if he guessed right, were the Three Saints of the Cairo family.

"Who are you, and how dare you climb Dragon Lodge Mountain?" demanded the woman sitting in the southern corner among the Three Saints.

"I am here to see Lord Cain, and it has nothing to do with you," Lu Hong replied, ignoring the Three Saints and looking towards Cain.

Seeing that Cain showed no reaction, Lu Hong continued, "A few days ago, Lina was harmed by traitors, and she’s currently recuperating, which is why she couldn’t come."

Hearing news of Lina, Cain finally spoke, "What happened?"

"May I have a word with you, Lord Cain?" Lu Hong gestured with a bow.

Cain nodded, rose, and followed Lu Hong down to the mountainside.

They stopped, and Cain said, "Speak."

Then, Lu Hong recounted how the Black Guards had rescued Lina.

However, Cain’s face remained unflustered, and seeing the puzzled look on Lu Hong’s face, he simply explained, "I was the one who sent people to tell the Black Guards to find her."

"Then why did you help Cairo block the plane?" Lu Hong pressed on.

Cain glanced at Lu Hong faintly, "You didn’t come to see me just because of Lina, did you?"

"Indeed," Lu Hong no longer hid his intention, "The Empire is currently stuck in a quagmire, needing support from all sides. I was invited to stabilize various planes, to fight for more power against the Naga sea tribes. Now being hindered at Dragon Pond, and hearing that you are here aiding the Cairo family, I am quite puzzled and came to inquire, wanting to know whom you truly intend to help."

"I am here to guard the Great Space Array, do you think I still need to answer that question?" Cain’s expression remained calm, "Since you are a man of the Empire, from today onwards, you shall remain on Dragon Lodge Mountain. I won’t kill you, but don’t think about leaving Dragon Lodge."

"Lord Cain, isn’t that joke too severe?" Lu Hong’s expression darkened. He hadn’t expected Cain to strike so suddenly— at least have a few more words! There was absolutely no chance for negotiation; Cain had declared a death sentence right away.

"I am not joking," Cain said, reaching out his hand towards Lu Hong.

Without any magic power fluctuations, Lu Hong felt he couldn’t avoid it, so he hastily activated his Blood Qi, pushing Cain back.

Cain seemed surprised, "Your Blood Qi is quite abundant. Are you ... Baron Yitian?"

"Since you’re dead set on aiding the Karo family, then I shall take my leave," Lu Hong declared as he sprinted away.

Cain chuckled, "You can’t escape."

As he spoke, Holy Light descended from the sky and transformed into four iron walls, trapping Lu Hong.

Facing a top-notch opponent, Lu Hong dared not hold back and, with a burst of divine light, tore apart the skill Cain had used with his bare hands.

"Indeed, immune to magic," Cain nodded in confirmation, then drew a Heavy Sword from his Space Ring and a sword beam thrust directly at Lu Hong’s vital points.

Lu Hong, not daring to be careless, summoned the Blood Holy Sword and struck back immediately.

At that moment, however, Cain’s figure appeared directly behind him.

So fast!

Lu Hong had no time to lament and immediately countered with his sword.

But Cain pinched between two fingers, easily controlling Lu Hong’s attack, and casually praised the Holy Sword, "Truly a fine sword."

So powerful! Lu Hong felt a surge of shock and anger as his blood qi burst forth, trying to force Cain back with a Blood Qi Shockwave.

Yet, Cain effortlessly suppressed the raging blood qi with one hand, pushing it back into Lu Hong’s body.

"You’re only at the Second-Transformation Peak; you can’t defeat me." Cain pressed his palm against Lu Hong’s chest, and with a crackling sound, Lu Hong’s ribcage shattered, spewing old blood three yards out.

Severely injured, Lu Hong fell to the ground, and the Holy Sword was swiftly taken by Cain.

"You..."

Cain totally dominated the fight, making Lu Hong utterly defenseless—it was like a college student bullying a kindergartner.

"I assume you had inquired about me from Lina before you came here," Cain stood before Lu Hong and continued, "However, I have never truly displayed my strength. Hence, all rumors and information from the outside world are false, and you should not take them seriously."

"What realm have you actually reached now?"

Facing Lu Hong’s question, Cain shook his head, "I’m not sure, probably at the same level as the Tower Master."

Tower... Tower Master?

Lu Hong’s eyes widened in shock. He was at the same level as the Tower Master - Lu Hong had never clashed with someone of the Tower Master’s level, and now it seemed he was far from being able to confront a Tower Master head-on.

"Boy, stay at Dragon Lodge Mountain, and I can ensure your safety."

Puzzled by Cain’s words, Lu Hong asked, "Lord Cain, since we are enemies, why would you want to save my life?"

Cain looked at Lu Hong indifferently, "Do you know the origin of Dragon Pool?"

Seeing Lu Hong shake his head, Cain explained, "Dragon Pool is not actually a plane, but a living creature."

"What?!"

This was the typical reaction of someone hearing the truth for the first time, and Cain was quite satisfied with Lu Hong’s expression, "I too was very surprised when I first learned of this, thus I was invited to rush to Dragon Pool to ensure the seal of the plane, preventing this creature from waking up."

"What kind of creature is Dragon Pool exactly?"

"Probably a dragon," Cain said, recounting the secret of Dragon Pool based on what he knew, "During the Era of the Gods, among the first offspring of the Ancestor Dragon, there was a wind-type true dragon named Proud Red. It roamed the Star Sea causing disasters on numerous planes, which led the Heavenly God to hunt it. After a fierce battle, the true dragon was slain. Most of its body fell into a mysterious space during the intense battle, and its head remained in the Star Sea. Dragon Pool is what the true dragon morphed into after endless years."

"Can this true dragon still be alive?"

"Yes," Cain nodded, "The first time I stepped into this plane, I sensed its presence, though very faint, it needs fresh blood to nourish and revive."

"What does that have to do with your helping the Karo family? Could it be that the empire, wielding great authority over Dragon Pool, plans to revive the true dragon?"

"That will not happen," Cain shook his head, "I believe neither the empire nor the Karo family wish for the dragon to revive. However, if a great war begins, the blood flowing into Dragon Pool would provide nourishment for the revival of the true dragon, which I do not want to see."

"Then why don’t you just help the empire to resolve the Karo family so peace would prevail?" Lu Hong said dissatisfiedly.

"I advised the Family Head of Karo, but he will not surrender, so I can only help the Karo family to seal the plane and prevent the empire from invading."

Hearing Cain’s explanation, Lu Hong rolled his eyes, "Boss, with the power you possess, why not just kill the Family Head of Karo and destroy the Karo altogether? Wouldn’t that solve everything?"

Hearing Lu Hong’s complaint, Cain gave him a look and remained silent. Someone as strong as him making a move against a lower rank? That would be totally disgraceful, wouldn’t it?

Of course, there might also be deeper reasons, perhaps known only to Cain himself.
