Chapter 397: Chapter 152: Rush to Help God’s Grace

"You’re not bad at all!" Caesar chuckled as he looked at Lu Hong, "I sent you to get some help from the mercenary world and not only did you bring back help, but you also ended up becoming the Mercenary King. Your parents know how awesome you are?"

"I don’t want to be any kind of Mercenary King." Lu Hong curled his lip, "Whoever loves it, it’s not my business. I really don’t understand why the soul of the First Mercenary King would still exist."

"Maybe the succession method of the Second Mercenary King was incorrect," Caesar said with narrowed eyes. "Only if the Second Mercenary King was not a good fit would the First hold a grudge and refuse to rest in peace, hence hiding the Ancestral Crown, hoping it would eventually find a suitable successor."

Caesar’s analysis made a lot of sense, so Lu Hong immediately asked, "Is this Ancestral Crown a treasure?"

"Of course." Caesar raised an eyebrow, "This thing has quite the history. It’s said to be a Divine Artifact forged by elves near the end of the Era of the Gods, to showcase their superior tact in warfare. It conceals many special skills from the various races conquered by the elves, making it an all-purpose functional Divine Artifact."

"But..." Lu Hong took out the crown with a bitter smile, after listening to Caesar’s impressive description, "why can’t I activate it at all?"

"Maybe it’s because you’re too weak."

The conversation circled back to the original point, and Caesar paused before asking, "What about the armor I gave you before? Can you use it yet?"

Lu Hong shook his head. After advancing into the top hundred in the Eagle Conquest, Earl Bacon used his connections to redeem all the items sold by Qing Ling. Naturally, the battered armor was among them, still lying in the corner of the Space Ring, untouched to this day by Lu Hong.

"That’s strange..." Caesar frowned, "This piece of armor, after being appraised, should be barely usable at the Second Transition Late Stage, unless... unless there’s some other mystery to it."

"Let’s wait until I reach the Third Transition." Besides the armor, Lu Hong had a golden feather gifted by Di Ti in his possession. He hadn’t been able to unleash the real power of the bronze giant sword either; otherwise, he wouldn’t have been able to lock away the soul of the Holy King within it for ten thousand years without extinguishing it.

With the addition of the Ancestral Crown now, Lu Hong had no shortage of treasures on him, but the only thing he could use was the three Holy Emperor Swords.

"Lord Caesar," Lu Hong changed the subject, "I wonder if the power of the Holy Emperor Sword could be infused into me once again?"

Caesar glanced at Lu Hong, "Why? You want to use that power to save the Tower Master?"

"What else? That power nearly crushes anyone at the Third Transition Peak. If I can activate it again, wouldn’t it be great to help the Tower Master escape?" The notion formed in Lu Hong’s mind after he felt the power of the Emperor Sword.

Still, Caesar shook his head, "The Emperor Sword can be used again and infused into your body, but the plane where the Tower Master is located is far too distant. The power of the Emperor Sword cannot reach there. If there were a way to save the six Tower Masters, you wouldn’t need to mention it; I would arrange it myself."

"Alright." Lu Hong nodded, realizing he had been too naive.

"The mercenaries are about to join the frontline, and they’ll need you to take command," Caesar said after taking a sip of tea. "Most mercenaries function as a combat unit with their own teams. They can play a crucial role in small-scale wars, but in large-scale warfare, these scattered troops fighting independently are of little use. So, you must go to the frontline, make the deployment arrangements, and ensure that these mercenaries stick together and are not divided and conquered one by one by the Sea Tribe."

"The battle reports from the frontline show that the Sea Tribe has many experts in strategy, and the Empire is completely outplayed in tactics and deployment."

Hearing Caesar’s words, Lu Hong’s expression grew troubled, "War... I don’t know how to fight!"

"No matter, Nightingale will accompany you. You just need to convey her commands to the mercenary troops." As he spoke, Caesar waved his hand, and a portal slowly opened in front of them.

Seeing the woman crossing through, Lu Hong smiled, "Weiwei, long time no...," but before he could finish, a slap flipped him over, "Who are you calling Weiwei? Show some respect!"

Nightingale snorted coldly and then bowed slightly to Caesar, "I’ve seen the Lord."

"Sit," Caesar gestured, pushing a cup of tea in front of Nightingale.

Nightingale took a sip and then fell silent.

Lu Hong rubbed his forehead as he picked himself up from the ground, "Couldn’t you have gone easier on me?"

Nightingale ignored Lu Hong, but Caesar seemed to catch onto something and chuckled, "You two talk. I’m leaving." With that, he vanished from the secret room.

"Hey, why are you ignoring me?" Lu Hong poked Nightingale’s arm. Was this woman on her period or what? What was she being so touchy about?

"Hmph!" After Caesar left, Nightingale’s face immediately darkened, "Should I address you as Baron, or perhaps as Marquis Champion?"

"Just call me Lu Hong," Lu Hong said with a smile, "I like that name."

"I wouldn’t dare, Baron," Nightingale’s words were laced with barbs as she went head-to-head with Lu Hong.

"What’s the matter? Aren’t we good friends?" Lu Hong’s confusion deepened; he didn’t recall offending Nightingale.

"Good friends? I’m hardly worthy of being your friend," Nightingale sneered, "At best, I’m your servant, tending to your woman."

Woman? Anna?

Lu Hong seemed to grasp something and tentatively asked, "Are you... jealous?"

"Jealous?!" Nightingale’s face changed, "Jealous of what? Get lost!"

"Oh." Since it wasn’t jealousy, Lu Hong really didn’t know where he had displeased Nightingale and decided it was best to stay silent.

The moment turned exceedingly awkward. The two spent over a half hour in silence, and with a heavy snort, Nightingale turned to leave: "We head to the front lines at dawn."

"Understood," Lu Hong agreed.

When the sun rose once more, Silver Wind stroked the mangy fur of his dog and rasped, "We see the sun again."

"Yes! Woof! Who knows, woof! If today, woof! We can, woof! Hold out, woof! Against it, woof! Woof!" The dog’s bark was still vigorous, barking heartily.

"Hold on!" Silver Wind patted the dog’s head as his expression changed dramatically at the sight of towering waves on the distant horizon.

"All members of Squad Three!" Silver Wind roared, "Prepare for battle!"

His shout roused everyone; the equipped soldiers quickly ascended the city walls.

"Mages, prepare!"

"Fire Mages ready!"

"Water Mages ready!"

"Earth Mages ready!"

"Lightning Mages ready!"

"Wind Mages ready!"

Silver Wind squinted, gauging the distance of the tidal wave.

Awaiting the right moment, he commanded, "Fire Mages, chant Skyfire!"

"Earth Mages strengthen the wall! Raise it another thirty meters!"

"Lightning Mages, gather your energy, I need all of your Magic Power, one strike, one will be enough!"

"Wind Mages, summon a tornado for me, knock down the speed of the waves, make sure you suppress it!"

A series of commands were promptly relayed to each group of Mages. Under Silver Wind’s orders, a massive amount of Magic Power gathered above this stretch of the city wall.

Skyfire was initiated first, hurling down onto the tide, huge meteors plunging into the waves without causing the slightest ripple, likely nullified by the Sea Tribe behind the tide.

While Skyfire continued relentlessly, hundreds of massive tornadoes pierced the sky and earth, barreling towards the oncoming tide with a howling force.

The tornadoes had a simple goal: to slow down the tidal wave. Rising from the ocean depths and bolstered by the Tidal Orb, the wave’s speed and impact grew as it traveled, an unobstructed tide capable of easily shattering the thick earthen walls constructed by the Sacred Empire.

With the wave’s height, the original three-hundred-meter wall was insufficient as a barrier, thus needing further elevation. Earth Mages placed their hands on the ground, continuously invoking their Magic Power, connecting with the forces of the earth. The walls visibly grew taller at a rapid pace. The waves must not surpass the wall; once they did, the Sea Tribe would surge over the battlements and flood inside.

"Lightning Mages, charge up more energy!" Silver Wind’s eyes were bloodshot; this wave seemed more tremendous than any before, potentially the enemy’s all-out assault. Perhaps this would be the last sunrise graced by the gods this band of soldiers would ever see.

Damn it! I still want to see the sunset! Silver Wind cursed inwardly.
