Chapter 342: Chapter 97 A Day in the Life of Jin Fu
Ever since Jin Fu got some intelligence about the Holy Light realm from Lu Hong, he knew that the Ice Seal must not be broken; however, although he was a bishop in his own right, when compared to some of the old-timers, his power and influence were still insignificant.
So Jin Fu wrote a letter overnight, inviting the other three bishops to the Sevenfold Transient Realm to discuss countermeasures. At the same time, he invited three more Judgment Knights to act as witnesses and hoped that the Judgment Knights could contribute.
At eight in the morning, as Qing Ling entered, the Holy Court’s highest meeting finally began.
"Hey, you’ve only been a Knight for a few days, and you’ve become so arrogant you lack manners?" The fat man who had previously opposed Qing Ling sneered, "At such a significant occasion, everyone waits for you, seems the Clan Leader of the Rao Xue family is very capable indeed."
Qing Ling rolled her eyes at the fat man, "The letter sent by Bishop Jin Fu clearly states the meeting is at exactly eight. Am I late?"
"Couldn’t you have arrived early?" the fat man grumbled dissatisfied.
"I’m asking you if I’m late!" Qing Ling retorted, unyielding. After all, she had nothing to worry about since she hadn’t done anything wrong.
"Enough!" Archbishop Xiao Lili with her brows inverted said, "With the state we’re in, are you Judgment Knights only capable of infighting!" Saying so, she glanced at the last Judgment Knight, Mo De.
Mo De shrugged, "Don’t look at me, I can’t handle them. Without the boss, the other Knights don’t have a set order of seniority."
"Let’s all say less," Jin Fu tapped the table, "We’re not here to argue today. The Holy Court is now in a massive crisis. We need to work together to get through this difficulty; otherwise, the transmission of the Holy Court’s legacy will be completely severed!"
"Lord Jin Fu, what exactly happened in the Holy Light realm? Why has our Holy Court suddenly encountered such a major calamity?" As Xiao Lili asked, all eyes collectively turned to Jin Fu.
Xiao Lili, Jenaxi, and few other bishops who were not at the core Commission, spread the Holy Court’s teachings in remote areas north, east, south—expanding the Holy Court’s mission, would not have returned from their distant posts to the Sevenfold Transient Realm if they hadn’t heard of the abnormalities in the Holy Light realm.
It goes without saying for Qing Ling, Mo De returned with Jenaxi, responsible for overseeing the western Holy Court, while the plump Knight was a full-time supervisor over Jin Fu, in charge of the inspection of church affairs in the central area of the Sevenfold Transient Realm.
None of these people had any contact with the affairs in the Holy Light realm, and thus, they knew very little about the current situation of the Holy Court. They only knew that the Holy Court’s third group at the bottom layer was rebelling, fortunately, the other two Judgment Knights were suppressing it with all their might; otherwise, there wouldn’t be this seemingly relaxed meeting this morning.
"There is a ten-thousand-year-old demon hidden in the Holy Light realm. Archbishop Nong Hua intended to suppress it and thus assembled the Holy Court’s power for its suppression," Jin Fu took a deep breath, "Unfortunately, Archbishop Nong Hua failed and had to seal the realm, hoping to starve the old demon to death."
"A ten-thousand-year-old demon? You must be joking," Xiao Lili lifted an eyebrow, "The lower ranks are rebelling, and I don’t have time to play house with you."
Clearly dissatisfied with Jin Fu’s explanation, Xiao Lili stood up ready to leave.
"Archbishop Xiao!" Jin Fu’s voice suddenly increased by several octaves, "Please sit down and let me finish!"
"You expect me to sit here and listen to your nonsense?" Xiao Lili scoffed, "Who knows if you’re just helping the lower ranks buy time to seize great power within the church."
Tap tap tap! At this moment, Jenaxi rapped the table heavily, "Archbishop Xiao, you are overstepping."
Jenaxi was the oldest among these four bishops. Seeing him speak, Xiao Lili had no choice but to sit back down.
Jenaxi looked at Jin Fu and said, "Continue."
Jin Fu nodded, "Actually, I don’t know much either. I have no idea whether Archbishop Nong Hua is alive or how long the old demon inside the Holy Light realm needs to be sealed before it starves to death, but I do know one thing—the Ice Seal of the Holy Light realm absolutely must not be broken by the Four Dukes!"
"Since Archbishop Nong Hua personally implemented the Seal, we have the responsibility to guard it," said the other bishop, "There are two things that lie before us now. One is to solve the internal threat and suppress the power grab from below; the second is to prevent the Four Dukes from breaking the Seal."
"Exactly," Jin Fu nodded, "Therefore, we must unite. I hope Jenaxi can take on the role of Archbishop at this time and lead our teachings out of this predicament."
"I agree as well," Xiao Lili was the first to raise her hand in favor. After all, aside from Jin Fu, she was the weakest in terms of both her voice and the power she held. The position of Archbishop had nothing to do with her, and besides, Jenaxi was a decent person, making him the obvious choice.
"I also agree," the other bishop also expressed his agreement. As for the Judgment Knights, they were just observers; this was an internal matter for the bishops, and they had no place to comment.
Jenaxi looked around, just as he was about to agree, suddenly, an old man burst into the room.
Jin Fu fixed his gaze and realized it was Nong Hua’s accompanying servant.
"Esteemed archbishops, knights," the servant bowed respectfully.
"You’re still alive? Quickly, tell us what exactly happened in the Great Holy Light Territory!" Jin Fu hurriedly helped him inside.
However, the servant shook his head and said, "I am merely tasked by my master to deliver a letter while you were in a meeting. As for what transpired in the Great Holy Light Territory, I left early and know nothing about it."
Alright then, Jin Fu took the letter and passed it to Jenaxi.
Opening the envelope, Jenaxi’s brows knitted together, then relaxed, and with a casual flick, he ignited a Holy Fire and burnt the letter to ashes.
"You?" The others were stunned. What secret could not be shared with them?
Jenaxi explained, "The archbishop ordered me to burn it. The content of the letter is no different from what Jin Fu mentioned, and the archbishop wishes for this matter to remain unknown to others. So I hope everyone keeps the Great Holy Light Territory’s secrets to themselves. Moving forward, I will strictly follow Archbishop Nong Hua’s arrangements, prevent the four dukes from unsealing the Great Holy Light Territory, and suppress the rebellion of the lower-tier groups."
Although the others had some complaints, with things having reached this point, the Holy Court couldn’t afford any more internal chaos. Some questions would simply have to wait until after this matter was resolved.
As Jenaxi sorted out the plan and assigned tasks, everyone dispersed. Jin Fu’s assignment was to negotiate with the four dukes.
Watching their departing figures, Jenaxi couldn’t help feeling some resentment. Why, why did Nong Hua designate him as the next archbishop successor? Jin Fu had ascended to his position by chance, and yet he had worked tirelessly for the faith. Could Nong Hua not see that!
Fortunately for Jin Fu, it was he who handed over the letter; otherwise, the esteemed position of archbishop would have slipped through his fingers.
Jenaxi harbored no treachery towards the Holy Court, but he was certain that, with the archbishop position in his hands, he would surpass Jin Fu by a great margin.
Jin Fu wasn’t weak either. If Nong Hua truly wanted Jenaxi to succeed him, there would have been no need for a letter, nor any reason for Jenaxi to burn it. Wouldn’t showing the letter to everyone further solidify his authority?
All things considered, there was only one conclusion: the archbishop’s chosen successor wasn’t Jenaxi, but rather one among him, Xiao Lili, and Ferun. Yet the opportunity had been snatched away by Jenaxi mid-course.
Nevermind, Jin Fu sighed. Now that Nong Hua’s last wishes were destroyed, whether he was the chosen successor or not, didn’t matter anymore. Besides, with Lu Hong’s aid and the Untainted Holy Light on his side, securing the archbishop’s position in the future wouldn’t be difficult.
Stepping onto the Sinlei family’s estate, the Believer accompanying him stepped forward to knock on the door.
Soon, a servant opened the gate: "May I inquire as to the honorable purpose of your visit to our Sinlei family?"
"Convey to Duke Sinlei that Jin Fu wishes to discuss an urgent matter."
Upon hearing him announce himself, the servant quickly knelt to show respect: "This humble one greets Archbishop Jin Fu. Please wait patiently, my lord, I will go and pass the message immediately." The servant hastily went back inside and within less than the time it takes to drink half a cup of tea, he returned apologetically and said, "Archbishop, it is unfortunate but our master is not within the estate. I ask that you please visit on another day."
"Not here?" Jin Fu knew Sinlei was unwilling to see him. These dukes had already returned to their estates in the Seventh Realm after the meeting, so how could it be possible that they were not there?
"If that’s the case, I shall visit another day." If Sinlei really didn’t want to meet him, he could not force his way in. Jin Fu took a few steps back, turned, and left. If Sinlei wouldn’t see him, he would try Lei Shan; surely, he would agree to a meeting.
Goodness me, Lei Shan also refused to meet him, and didn’t even make an excuse, simply saying: "I don’t feel like seeing you right now."
He then went to Duke Chen Hui’s mansion, still no meeting.
Lastly, Jin Fu arrived at Duke Nuoshan’s gates, to his greater irritation, no one was even there to open the door.
Wasn’t Duke Nuoshan supposed to be the most approachable? Why then would he not even open the door for me?
The Seventh Layered Float was vast, and the estates of the four dukes were also far apart. After running around from one end to another, the sky had already grown dim.
"Archbishop, what should we do?" The Believer asked dejectedly from inside the carriage.
"Head to the Holy Church." Since he was unable to meet with any of the four dukes, they would need to involve Jenaxi himself. He wondered whether Jenaxi’s influence would be enough.
