Chapter 276 - 32: Elves

Chapter 276: Chapter 32: Elves

The next morning, the king of Cangdu came knocking on Lu Hong’s door with Xixi in tow, "Is Baron Lu awake? Are you up, Baron Lu? Are you having breakfast, Baron Lu?"

Lu Hong: ...

"I’m awake!" Speechless, Lu Hong exited his meditative state, splashed his face with water, and after a quick wash, opened the door. Right in front of him were the smiling faces of the king of Cangdu and a blushing Xixi—God knows what nonsensical things the old man had been telling her.

"Baron Lu, join us for breakfast."

"Alright."

No sooner had he spoken than a myriad of delicacies were brought forth by the maids, filling the square table in Lu Hong’s room to the brim.

"Come, eat," said the king, sparing no extra words, as he laid out the finest foods of Cangdu before Lu Hong, "Not knowing what you like, I simply chose a few specialties."

Lu Hong picked up a piece of soft pastry, like an egg in texture. Honestly, he had always loved this kind of food, the softer the better, but the kind that melts in your mouth wasn’t his preference.

Taking a bite, a fragrant taste filled his mouth.

Seeing Lu Hong captivated by the food, the king hurriedly winked at Xixi for her to speak, but poor Xixi, with her face still red, couldn’t utter a word for the longest time.

With no other choice, the king had to speak himself, "Baron Lu, this is our Cangdu specialty pastry, Mint Crisp Cake. How is it? Unique, isn’t it?"

"Mm-hmm, it’s delicious," nodded Lu Hong.

"Someone, prepare a hundred boxes... no! A thousand boxes of Mint Crisp Cake for Baron Lu."

The king’s generous offer made Lu Hong repeatedly gesture with his hands, "That’s too much, I can’t finish it all."

"No problem, this pastry can be kept at room temperature for a year. Just put it in your storage ring and have a piece whenever you want to satisfy a craving."

"Big brother Lu Hong, please accept it," Xixi finally said weakly after holding it in for so long.

"Well, okay then," Lu Hong reluctantly accepted.

"Ha ha," the king laughed happily, "It seems what Xixi says carries weight!"

Ugh... It seems I’ve let the king misunderstand again.

After nibbling on a bit of food, Lu Hong spoke up, "Your Majesty, I have received news that the elves have already infiltrated Ambra."

"Oh?" The king seemed surprised, "I had not expected Baron Lu to also have his own forces at his disposal?"

"I simply borrowed them," Lu Hong shook his head, "Asked friends for help."

The king smiled slightly, "The reason I came to disturb you early today was exactly because of this matter. Last night, Elder Li received news. Considering you’ve just been through a big battle, I did not want to disturb you further, so I delayed until now. I hope Baron Lu does not take offense."

"King of Cangdu, you jest."

"The group of elves that infiltrated our territory is already under surveillance by my men. I believe other nations will also take action. Once we ascertain which relic these elves are targeting, I will immediately send Elder Li with you to set up an ambush and strive for their complete annihilation!"

"Great!" Having someone to take care of things sure makes life easier!

"Xixi," the king looked at her slyly, "At this time, why don’t you take your big brother Lu Hong for a tour around Cangdu City? Bring him to some scenic spots to appreciate the beauty of our Cangdu country."

"Yes, Father," Xixi timidly agreed, and not just Xixi but Lu Hong also felt an immense headache.

What was true at one time might not stand true at another, and some things had to be clarified, "Your Majesty, there may be a misunderstanding... My feelings for Xixi are that of siblings, with no romantic intentions."

"Eh, no matter, no matter, feelings can be developed over time," the king seemed to have expected this response, showing no sign of surprise or disbelief.

Well...

With Xixi’s company, the two strolled along Cangdu City’s Blue Flower Canal, where all the flowers were blue, presenting a uniquely beautiful landscape.

Lee followed behind them, his face full of smiles, remaining silent.

After a long silence, Xixi mustered up her courage and looked at Lu Hong, "Father told me you’re the hero who saved Ambra."

"Not really, it was the Heavenly God who helped resolve the snake infestation. I was merely used as a bridge," Lu Hong said modestly, as such matters were not appropriate to claim for oneself.

"But still, it was because of you that Ambra was able to step out from the shadow of the snake burning. Thank you!" Xixi sincerely thanked him, and Lu Hong noticed the solemnity on the girl’s face, so he put away his smile and replied seriously, "I accept this gratitude on behalf of the great ancestors."

"Right!" Xixi said, slightly excited, "Father also said you’re the hero who saved the empire, Baron Yitian."

"Indeed, although saying I ’saved the empire’ might be an overstatement."

"No, you are the hero who saved the empire. I’ve heard Father’s analysis—if the northern border of the empire had been breached, the Snow Tribe’s army would have marched south, as the southern regions mired in the Endless Forest couldn’t have diverted any forces to defend. It was you who saved the empire that was on the verge of collapse. You are the hero of the empire and the hero in Xixi’s heart. Not only did you save the empire and Ambra, but also... me." Xixi’s cheeks flushed red, her figure hidden among the blue blossoms, adding a different kind of charm.

Damn, is this a... confession? Lu Hong was internally shocked; another girl was confessing to him. Why didn’t such good things happen before he transversed?!

"So," Xixi took a deep breath, "Xixi also wants to become a great hero like you and someday become a worthy queen of Cangdu."

"Yes, I believe that you will definitely become a capable monarch in the future, leading Cangdu to prosperity and strength."

"I will!" Xixi clenched her little fist and silently made a vow.

A breeze passed by, and Lee carefully watched this golden boy and jade girl, pitying them. Alas!

Within the borders of Cangdu, in Yinmo City, a group covered in large cloaks entered the city, found an inn, and settled down.

Once the doors and windows were closed and the cloaks removed, a pair of pointed ears revealed the identity of these people—the Elven Race!

Inside the room, a male elf spoke, "Your Highness, I really don’t understand why Father insists on you participating in such a dangerous mission."

"Brother, don’t complain. Father must have his reasons for making such arrangements," said the female elf speaking, who was none other than Miaomiao, the poisoner of Xius.

The Elven Prince sighed and sat down helplessly, while Miaomiao quickly poured him a glass of water and handed it to him, "Brother, have you noticed?"

The Elven Prince sipped the water and nodded, "Yes, from the moment we entered Ambra, we’ve been watched."

"What should we do?" Miaomiao quickly asked.

"No rush. The humans of Ambra are inherently hostile to us. It’s normal for them to target us. Every time we elves enter Ambra, we face attacks from them. This time, our tribe has sent seven Great Elders to follow us. There shouldn’t be a problem in activating the ancient transportation array."

"Brother, why do we need to activate the transportation arrays in the ruins?" Miaomiao was curious, as this question had been bothering her for a while.

"The King has never spoken about the secrets here, but I’ve found some clues after searching through the archives," the Elven Prince paused, organizing his thoughts before continuing, "According to the records, we, the Hasas Elves, are a branch of the Elves. During the Era of the Gods, the Elven race migrated en masse, leaving the Continent of God’s Grace. Only we chose to stay behind. Ambra was the outpost for the Elves on their way to the Star Sea. Here, our elven ancestors built eighteen major transportation arrays to connect with the major regions beyond our world, but regrettably, with the mass exodus of elves, this outpost was eventually breached by the Human Race."

"So, are we here to activate the transportation arrays to guide the elves from beyond back here?"

"Perhaps, I think it’s likely a call for help. The living space for us Hasas Elves is shrinking. Humans, Orcs, Snow Tribes—all are becoming increasingly powerful in God’s Grace, while we’re falling behind. Sooner or later, we’ll face the risk of extinction. Bringing back the Elves from beyond could mean that the territory we could rule would expand far beyond that same jungle we have grown so tired of, to vast expanses of mountains, seas, snowy peaks, and deserts." Saying this, the Elven Prince revealed a longing look; it seemed the Elves had stayed within their kingdom for far too long.

"Yes, the outside world is truly wonderful," sighed Miaomiao, echoing the Elven Prince.

The conversation fell into silence, and the Elven Prince stood up, opened a crack in the window, and carefully observed the situation outside.

"There are at least three people watching us."

"What do we do?"

"Lead them out of the city tomorrow and kill them."
