Chapter 229: Chapter 216: Seeing Lando Again
"Lu Hong, we’re back!" Weiwei pushed open the wooden door, but the empty hut offered no response.
"I told you, Lu Hong must have left with the Sect Hierarch," the old farmer said with an expression that seemed to say he had anticipated this.
"I don’t believe it, Lu Hong must be in the fields!" Weiwei rushed out of the hut, where the rice plants were thriving, but the person who had cultivated them was long gone.
"Lu Hong!" Weiwei yelled, but after a long time without a response, he could only return to the old man with his head hanging low, hugging the old man as he cried, "Grandpa, Lu Hong really left!"
"There, there, he must be no ordinary person. Your Lu Hong probably has some very important business to attend to. If you practice diligently, you will see him again someday," the old man comforted Weiwei before adding, "Since you’re here for a rare visit, let’s go to the town later and see the folks."
"Okay."
With Danni’s orders, overnight, the area within a thousand miles around the small town was secured tightly by the Natural Sect. The Sand Mercenary Group was outright ousted. With the protection of the Natural Sect, those good-for-nothing potatoes were naturally sent rolling as far away as possible.
Lu Hong, dragging his broken leg, took steps toward the edge of the forest. It wasn’t long before a follower of the Natural Sect appeared before Lu Hong and knelt down, saying, "Baron, may I ask if you have any instructions?"
"Did Danni ask you to wait here for me?"
"Tower Master ordered us to protect the town. We are responsible for staying here and completing any tasks you assign," the follower explained. "Danni probably wanted you to have a more comfortable time here without being disturbed by the outside world."
"Take me to God’s Grace, just the southern borders will do," Lu Hong said, choosing not to return to the northern borders, which had already entered a state of military preparedness and might be somewhat inconvenient for taking action.
"Very well, may I ask which city you would like to visit, Baron?"
"Tuzhui City."
Having chosen his destination, the follower quickly summoned two comrades, and they worked together to open a teleportation gate. "We hope the Baron agrees to let us follow for your protection."
"Didn’t Danni tell you to listen to me? I don’t need protection," Lu Hong rejected the offer, "The southern borders should be quite safe. You can return and report back."
"But..." the follower started to say more, but upon seeing Lu Hong’s cold gaze, he thought better of it and held back his words, deciding to report back to Danni later and ask the brothers at the Tuzhui City branch to take over.
"Thank you." Lu Hong stepped through the teleportation gate and, after a bout of dizziness, found himself inside the Natural Sect’s temple in Tuzhui City.
"Hello, may I ask who you are..." The Natural Sect’s disciple was quite amiable. Even though Lu Hong looked rather shabby, the fact that he had traveled through the sect’s internal teleportation gate meant he was certainly no ordinary person.
"Don’t bother with me; I just borrowed the teleportation gate." Lu Hong turned away from the disciple, exited the temple, and dragged himself onto the main street.
Today’s Tuzhui City had long cleaned up the chaos caused by the Eight Great Families in the past. The towering buildings, clean and orderly streets, and rows of commoners hawking their wares all spoke of peace and prosperity under Konstantin’s rule.
Lu Hong reached the side of an inn, casually picked up a piece of broken stone, and drew a complicated rune on the wall.
This was a mark Lando had taught him in the Nansha Great Forest. If he needed to find her, he was to draw this mark.
As his pockets were empty and he had nowhere else to go, Lu Hong simply leaned against the wall and waited for the Underworld Sect’s disciples to come for a rendezvous.
He didn’t manage to wait for the Underworld Sect’s people, but instead, he drew the inn’s server’s attention.
"Brother, here’s something to eat. Would you like to come inside and take a seat?" The server asked very politely, without a hint of disdain for Lu Hong’s ragged clothes or disability.
"Thank you, but I don’t want to be a bother with these rags," Lu Hong responded with gratitude.
"No, my master once instructed us that if someone is in need of help, we must not stand idly by. You must have come upon hard times. We might have suitable work for you here, and we can provide you with three meals a day and accommodation."
Touched, Lu Hong replied, "Then I’ll impose just a little; I will leave soon."
"Great, come on, let me help you up." The server assisted Lu Hong into the inn, summoning another colleague to bring some food and drinks to Lu Hong.
While chatting with the service staff, Lu Hong also learned about the current situation in the northern borders. When he heard that Nono’s body was still hanging from the city wall, the veins on Lu Hong’s forehead bulged and his knuckles turned white from the tight grip.
Around three hours later, a woman dressed in black hurried into the inn and asked sternly, "Does anyone know who made the mark on the wall outside the door?!"
"I did," Lu Hong said. The person he was waiting for had finally arrived.
"You?" The woman in black sneered. "I’m not joking with this disabled person."
"I’m not joking either. Call Lando to see me." Lu Hong’s tone was icy; he had little patience for these disciples of the Underworld Sect.
"You...?!" The woman was secretly astonished; it seemed that the mark was indeed drawn by him. Each Hell Sect leader’s summoning mark is unique, and being able to mention Lando must mean there is no mistake.
Perhaps the woman looked down on Lu Hong and said coldly, "Lord Lando is busy with many matters and definitely doesn’t have time to meet someone like you."
"Do not provoke my patience," Lu hong said sternly. "You only need to tell her that it is Tu Kulu looking for her, and she will come of her own accord. If you delay important matters due to your arrogance, you might not live to see tomorrow."
"Hmph!" The woman did not engage with Lu Hong any further and turned to leave, whether she would report to her superiors or not would probably depend on her mood.
Naturally, the conversation between the two was overheard by the waiter. When Lu Hong mentioned the name Tu Kulu, the two receptionists at the hall suddenly had a gleam in their eyes, then fell into confusion.
"Are you the Baron?" they asked.
"Yes," Lu Hong did not deny it.
"But you were unbeatable, with unparalleled bravery in the Endless Forest, establishing unmatched military achievements. How did you end up in this state?"
"I encountered the sea tribe," Lu Hong briefly told his experience, moving the two listeners to tears.
"You are truly unfortunate; please accept our most sincere respects!" The waiter quickly passed on Lu Hong’s presence to the owner of the inn, and soon the Tenghua Inn’s owner hurried back, and, at Lu Hong’s gesture, did not make his presence widely known.
Upon seeing Lu Hong for the first time, the inn’s owner confirmed Lu Hong’s identity: "Is it really you?!"
"Do you know me?" Lu Hong curiously looked at the chubby man in front of him; he had no recollection of him.
"It’s me... I was a student at the Heavenly Vine Academy. Back when Tuzhui City faced a rebellion, you saved me from the mercenaries!" The chubby man was excited: "Today, I have finally met my savior."
The chubby man pulled Lu Hong over and called the waiter again to arrange the best room and purchase fine food, expressing his desire to have a good drink with Lu Hong.
Lu Hong, however, was not in the mood for that. Instead, he started to inquire about the practice of meditation from the chubby man.
Three days passed, and the Hell Sect had still not sent any messages. Lu Hong sat in the room arranged by the chubby man and meditated for three full days. Lei Tong was right. If he had begun meditating earlier, everything would have been very different.
Meditation would not increase his current Qi and blood but would instead open up a new vortex of Fighting Spirit within his body. The earthy yellow Fighting Spirit was extremely thin, but one shouldn’t underestimate this low-level Fighting Spirit. It represented a brand-new future—dual class! A true dual class!
Not far from Tuzhui City, inside the Hell Sect branch, the woman Lu Hong met on the street was discussing professional issues with her teacher.
"Ah, by the way, Takali, why did you ask me for Lord Lando’s Rune mark a few days ago?" The woman’s teacher curiously asked, remembering the incident.
The woman casually said, "Oh, I saw an identical mark in Tuzhui City, so I wanted to confirm it."
"You saw the same mark?!" The teacher was shocked: "Why didn’t you say so earlier?!"
"It’s not like that," the woman complained. "The person who drew the mark was a cripple, and he was missing an arm. How could Lord Lando possibly know such a worthless person? I guessed he just happened to learn how to draw the mark by chance."
"Nonsense!" The teacher scolded loudly: "Regardless of whether it’s true or not, Lord Lando is the Vice Sect Hierarch, and anything related to her isn’t for us to decide on our own. What’s his name? Where is he? Take me to him at once!"
The woman struggled to remember: "He said his name was Tu Kulu, and he’s in the Tenghua Inn in the western part of the city."
"What did you say?" The woman’s teacher’s pupils dilated, looking incredulously at her disciple and sternly said: "Don’t you recognize him?!!"
"Him? Who is he?" The woman was taken aback, not understanding.
"He is your idol, Baron Yitian," the teacher said remorsefully: "The Baron seeking out Lord Lando must have important matters. Your delay of three days—I think your life is no longer guaranteed!"
"Ah?!" The woman was shocked: "He... he’s a worthless person, how could he possibly be Baron Yitian?"
"I’m too lazy to argue with you. You don’t even know the full name of the idol you worship, so what’s the point of worship at all!" The teacher grabbed her disciple’s arm: "Hurry up and come with me to headquarters. You’ve really dragged me down this time. Prepare for punishment!"
Three hours later, the pair appeared in Lando’s chamber.
Lando put down the book she was holding and glanced indifferently at her kneeling, trembling disciples, and said in a grave voice: "I don’t have time to punish you now. Kneel here and wait for me to return. Then I will decide your fate."
She left in a hurry, heading straight for Lu Hong.
Knock, knock, knock!
"You’ve come?" Lu Hong was sitting rigidly by the window, slowly turning his stiff body around, smiling at Lando at the door.
"You?!" Seeing Lu Hong’s pitiful state, Lando felt her tears welling up: "What on earth happened to you?!"
