Chapter 221: Chapter 208 Lina

Due to the large number of villagers, the escape was not quick, and Lu Hong, who had mobility issues, was carried on the back by the young villagers to prevent falling behind.

The sound of magic explosions coming from the horizon grew nearer, and the nighttime forest was far from safe, thankfully there were a few knights in the First Transition Late Stage to escort everyone on both sides.

After half an hour, a dark figure suddenly appeared, blocking their path.

"What are you doing out so late at night, where are you all going?" The figure chuckled maliciously as the last trace of fresh blood dripped from the blade, emitting a chilling coldness under the moonlight.

"Sir, I am the Mayor of Xiaomu Town, please spare us—the old, weak, sick, and disabled!" the mayor pleaded as he knelt down before the shadow. There would be no one else who could block their path except the approaching bandits.

"Alright, just leave all your money and food behind, and I might spare you," the figure bluntly said. "I’ve killed too many tonight and am a bit tired, consider yourselves lucky."

"Mayor, we mustn’t!" the young villagers shouted in unison, "If we give away all our silver coins and food, how are we going to survive the winter?"

"Quiet!" The mayor snapped, "We can always earn back material things, but lost lives can never be regained!"

The figure clapped his hands, "Good, I didn’t expect to find someone so sensible in such a remote place, that truly surprises me." Approaching the mayor, the blade swept across and a head rolled onto the ground: "But I don’t like such people, too clever, no good."

"Mayor?!" The crowd cried out in anger. "Fight him! Yes! He’s only one person!"

"Kill him! Avenge the mayor!" The villagers, already trained, picked up their weapons and charged at the figure.

"Shadow, Blink!" The figure, like a phantom, created dozens of duplicates. In a second, he had killed all the villagers who had attacked him at his Second Transition Late Stage.

The old man hurriedly covered Weiwei’s eyes to prevent her from seeing the bloody scene.

With the young villagers dead, the remaining old, weak, sick, and disabled gathered tightly together, not even daring to breathe heavily.

At that moment, the bandits’ main forces arrived, and a priest chanted a spell, and a white Holy Light, bright as the sun, lit up the night.

Only then could they clearly see the figure’s face—a fierce scar extended from the brow to below the mouth, looking very frightening.

"Come on, hand over your money and the food you carry. I might consider sparing your lives," Scarface scanned the crowd, his gaze resting on Lu Hong, "You... you look somewhat familiar?"

"Sir, sir, he’s just a mute, please show mercy and spare him!" the old man pleaded quickly, kowtowing to Scarface.

"Hey, you, come out!" Scarface pointed at Lu Hong.

Looking at the dead villagers on the ground, Lu Hong felt anger in his heart but did not show it, knowing he was no match for this man.

Seeing Lu Hong limp forward, Scarface seemed to lose interest, "Turns out he’s just a cripple, never mind then."

"Boss!" Meanwhile, one of the bandits pointed at a young woman, "I think she looks quite good."

"Then go have your fun. Do you still need my permission?" Scarface said nonchalantly, "Hurry up, it’s late and I still want to find a place to drink some, I’m a bit tired from this killing."

The bandit strode into the crowd and pulled out the woman he had his eye on.

"No! Please! No!"

The woman struggled fiercely but couldn’t break free from the man’s grasp. The villagers, furious but powerless, could only watch hopelessly as she was assaulted.

"You can’t do this!"

At that moment, a child’s voice rang out, Scarface looked at Weiwei, who was visibly scared, and sneered, "Didn’t expect this little girl to have courage. But I don’t like brave people either, what to do?"

Like a gust of wind, Scarface moved so quickly that the old man barely had time to react before Weiwei was captured.

"Let me go!" Weiwei yelled, furiously swinging her fists, but it was completely ineffectual against Scarface.

"Little girl, remember to be obedient in your next life." He then raised his butcher knife.

Lu Hong’s eyes turned ice-cold as he desperately summoned what little strength he had left. He couldn’t just watch Weiwei die!

At that moment, a white Holy Light descended from the sky, targeting Weiwei.

Instinctively, the scarred man dropped the girl and retreated several steps, but the falling Holy Light seemed to have eyes as it pursued him.

"Slash!" The scarred man stimulated his magic power and broke through the Holy Light, looking at the female knight he demanded, "Who are you?!"

"I am Lina, the daughter of the City Lord of Huai’an City. How dare you bandits attack defenseless mortals!" Lina scolded as she picked up Weiwei, "A bunch of beasts!"

"Huai’an City is thousands of miles away from here, I haven’t heard of any orders from the City Lord to dispatch troops to eliminate bandits," the scarred man asked curiously.

Lina sneered, "Don’t bother with the small talk. I’m not afraid to tell you the truth, I came here alone, and my father did not send any guards with me."

Hearing that there were no reinforcements, the scarred man felt emboldened, murderous intent rising, "It’s quite easy to die out here without guards, especially since demon beasts often roam this forest."

"I don’t know about demon beasts, but I’m sure you can’t kill me." Lina scolded, threw Weiwei back to the crowd, and Lu Hong caught her. Immediately, a Holy Light Barrier firmly protected the villagers.

"Attack!" At the scarred man’s command, hundreds of evil bandits simultaneously used their skills.

"Holy Light Shine!" Lina, already prepared, unleashed white Holy Light, dazzling everyone with a bright white light, blinding them.

Once everyone’s vision recovered, there were more than ten men lying dead at Lina’s feet.

"Damn it!" The scarred man attacked with a leap. Lina, with her sword and shield ready, struck him down in one blow.

"Trying to kill even children, you deserve to die!" Lina thrust her sword fiercely. The scarred man quickly used an escape skill, dodging the fatal blow, but before he could catch his breath, a white ball of Holy Light exploded behind him, causing him to howl in agony, his back a bloody mess.

"Damn it, attack!" After a brief skirmish, the scarred man recognized the woman’s abilities, a Third Transition Early Stage, damn, a formidable opponent!

Seeing how fierce Lina was, the bandits panicked and scattered, fleeing in every direction. After all, they were just a disorderly crowd, completely disorganized when facing a powerful enemy, each only concerned about saving their own lives.

Lina glanced around; she couldn’t stop so many people, but she absolutely couldn’t let the bandit who tried to molest the woman live!

The power of the Holy Light transformed into a piercing arrow, thrusting through the bandit’s chest. Just moments ago, he had been swaggering arrogantly, now he fell heavily to the ground, turning into a cold corpse.

Seizing the moment, the scarred man vanished into the shadows and fled in panic.

"Did you think you could escape?" Lina raised an eyebrow. The scarred man, barely ten meters away, slammed into a white Holy Shield and, no matter how he chopped at it, he couldn’t break through.

"Don’t... don’t kill me!" Now pleading for his life, the scarred man quickly knelt down, begging Lina for mercy, "I was forced into banditry, please, spare me."

"You are beyond redemption!" Without exchanging more words, Lina chopped off his head with a single stroke. She then turned around, removed the barrier protecting the villagers, and said with a remorseful tone, "Sorry, I arrived too late."

The villagers knelt down together and said, "Thank you for saving our lives!"

Weiwei, gathering courage, ran up to Lina and said, "Big sister, you are so amazing. I want to be like you in the future, punishing the bad guys!"

"Yes, you can!" Lina picked up Weiwei, "I believe you will become just like me."

An elder stepped forward, respectfully addressing Lina, "Madam, it’s getting late, please allow us to host you for the night in our village, giving us a chance to repay your great kindness and virtue."

Lina looked at the moon overhead, indeed needing a place to rest for the night, and said, "Sleeping is fine, but no need for thanks."

Lina understood the elder’s intention; she couldn’t just leave the village immediately. She needed to stay a few days to ensure the bandits wouldn’t return to take revenge.

Returning to the village, everything was unchanged, indicating the bandits had yet to ransack the place in their pursuit.

Shopkeeper Qi despondently pushed open the door to his shop. He had returned, and his home’s goods were intact, but—the one to inherit his legacy had forever rested in the forest.

An elderly couple frantically searched for their son and eventually knelt down in front of his bisected corpse, weeping in anguish.

Lu Hong silently witnessed everything, a sense of powerlessness filling him with hatred and disgust.

That was the plight of powerless mortals, treated like fish meat, at the mercy of others.
