Chapter 206 - 194 Snowy Region Counterattack
Chapter 206: Chapter 194 Snowy Region Counterattack
Marshal Pang’s intentional delaying tactics were completely counterproductive due to Red Beard’s interference, causing not only Marshal Pang, but also Konstantin to rage and smash everything around him after receiving the news.
No one is a fool, Red Beard wouldn’t leave the Flame Dean Plane and come to the Endless Forest without a scheme; it wasn’t hard for people to connect it to the Divine Blood River.
"That idiot! Instead of clearing the demon beasts by the Divine Blood River and solving the spatial constraints, why did he go to the Ancient Plains? He is just causing trouble!" Konstantin slammed down his seventy-eighth teacup, the guard beside hurriedly replaced it with a new one, placing it to the right of Konstantin.
Konstantin watched his old servant with annoyance; damn it, he was just tossing a teacup to vent, but the servant kept handing them to him, and worse, he handed him the expensive ones, those were antiques dug up from ancient ruins!
"Get out, out, out..." Konstantin felt irritated and dismissed the servants around him.
"Oh, my lord, what’s wrong?" At that moment, Lando’s voice emerged from somewhere, a trace of fragrance sneaking into Konstantin’s nostrils.
"Vice Sect Hierarch Lando, please show yourself and speak with me," Konstantin demanded sternly. "If you don’t show yourself, I’ll have you wanted for assassination!"
"Alright, alright, the emperor is quite commanding," Lando appeared in front of Konstantin with a laugh. "Is it that the Red Tower Lord has driven you mad?"
Konstantin calmed his emotions and smiled faintly, "Your Hell Sect seems to be well-informed."
"Of course, with your help, Great Emperor, even escaping Danni’s pursuit has been so much easier," Lando smiled back. "The Great Emperor has saved us from many losses, do you need our help this time?"
"Help?" Konstantin laughed. "How? Your Hell Sect dares to enter the Endless Forest? Even if I give you a pass, once your identities are revealed inside, you’ll surely die!"
"No, no, no, you might be mistaken, our sect has never thought about tampering with the Divine Blood River. If we can’t help within the Endless Forest, we can still assist outside!"
"Help me hold off the Snow Clan?" Konstantin sneered. "Or hold off the Beastman Empire?"
"Who knows?" Lando shrugged and remained silent with a smile.
Konstantin fell silent, then spoke, "Do whatever you think you need to do, just don’t cause trouble within the empire, the Black Guards won’t bother you."
"Thank you, Great Emperor." Lando seemed to achieve her goal, then bowed slightly, "Lando will take her leave now."
"Hey!" Konstantin called Lando back. "What exactly are you planning to do?"
The only response to Konstantin’s query was a string of light laughter.
Konstantin sat on his throne, gazing at the empty grand hall for a long time before sighing deeply.
"Seven Towers..."
Other powerful individuals in the midst of the Endless Forest were also displeased with Red Beard. They entered the Endless Forest stealthily, fearing detection by the Snowy Region and the Beastmen, and what clues might be revealed. Red Beard, however, had boldly shown himself openly, wasn’t it like handing over the clues?
"Su Yu, why aren’t you clearing demon beasts at the Divine Blood River, instead blocking this old man here?" Red Beard touched his nose, never managing to be tough on this woman before him, having ardently pursued her in his youth.
"You shouldn’t have appeared on the battlefield of the Ancient Plains," Su Yu spoke indifferently, her demeanor that of a frosty beauty, her delicate features showing no signs of the harsh years she had weathered.
"I...," Red Beard smacked his lips, "I knew someone would come to blame me, but I never expected it to be you."
Red Beard seemed disappointed. "I thought you understood me."
Su Yu continued unmoved, "Once we break through to God-level with the Divine Blood River, we can end the wars of this world, think of how many lives could be saved beyond those at present?"
"And what if we don’t break through?" Red Beard, one of those who most desired a breakthrough in the Endless Forest, asked a question even Su Yu didn’t expect him to ask.
The expression of the eternally cold Su Yu finally shifted slightly, "After decades, you surprise me."
Red Beard shook his head, "I’ve never changed; it’s just that you never saw the real me."
With those words, Red Beard leaped into the vast forest and vanished.
Su Yu stood in the sky, gazing towards the Ancient Plains miles away, where a fierce battle was raging.
After being meddled with by Red Beard, the Snow Clan had already suffered heavy losses before the battle had even begun, with casualties and fatalities numbering over a hundred thousand. This was a bitter pill they couldn’t swallow.
Lord Rafa advanced the planned schedules, the Snow Clan’s army of a million split into several factions, launching a fierce assault on the Han Snow Army.
Faced with the enemy’s swift attack, Marshal Pang issued a dire order to hold the line at all costs, not to retreat even a step.
From then on, every second on the Ancient Plains saw death, blood staining the ground.
The Snow Clan’s assault was like a lever, inflicting damage of thousand to the enemy at the cost of eight hundred to themselves, prying open the first defense line of the Han Snow Army.
Sausser led his division alongside the Cold Front Brigade, charging straight for the Independent Brigade of Red Tooth. Should Sausser capture the territory of the Independent Brigade, it would sever the second defense line, allowing the Snow Clan’s vast army to divide and conquer, striking directly into the headquarters of the Han Snow Army.
Sebo, viewing the approaching dark mass of the Snow Clan army, urgently cried out, "Quick, get ready for battle, the Snow Clan has reached the second line of defense!"
Red Tooth also spotted the enemy’s tracks and swiftly arranged the tasks for various brigades.
Sausser marched swiftly, facing the Independent Camp’s position, he was only two minutes away from leading his troops into battle, a military accomplishment within easy reach!
"Brothers, charge! Glory and riches await us!" No sooner had Sausser spoken than the Mage within the Red Tooth Brigade unleashed a sea of fire, attempting to slow their charge.
"Snowfall!" Before Shaosel could order, Lengfeng Group’s skills activated instantly, summoning a massive avalanche to sweep away the barriers of the blazing flames.
"Damn!" Shaosel cursed under his breath, waiting for his promotion in military rank, then they’d see!
"Fire!" As the enemy approached closer, the archers of the Independent Group gathered, releasing a barrage of Magic Arrows that blanketed the sky with formidable power.
Clang, clang, clang, Shaosel slashed down the arrows, chanting a spell which summoned a giant white whale from the ground, attempting to break through the Independent Group’s fortifications.
Red Fang leaped forward, delivering a kick to the back of the white whale. Enhanced by Magic Power, the white whale was kicked away, rendered useless.
"Damn, what a useless creature," spat Red Fang, pulling out his longsword, "Brothers, to battle!"
A roar erupted.
Members of the Independent Group and Roland Knight Group leaped over the fortifications to confront Shaosel head-on.
"Damn it!" Watching the two forces clashing together, Xibo stomped in frustration, cursing at Lu Hong, "Damn you, if it weren’t for you, would I be standing here just watching?!"
"Hey, watch your words, would this even happen if you hadn’t provoked the warrior profession first?" Lu Hong retorted, unafraid of Xibo.
"Hmph!" Xibo no longer spoke and turned his attention back to the battlefield.
Lu Hong too felt bitterness; having exerted the power of the holy sword in his battle with Xibo, his internal energy was now weak, preventing him from going forward to fight. It seemed like earning military merits had nothing to do with him now; was his chance of being promoted to the Roland Knight Group about to vanish?
Forget it, better not think too much about that now; this battle likely won’t end so quickly.
Lu Hong refocused on the front line as Red Fang charged, his broadsword clearing the defense of two Snow Clan warriors before killing them on the spot.
Shaorls immediately recognized the opponent’s level, pointing his spear at Red Fang and declaring, "I am Shaorls, the Snow Realm General of the Right Flank. Who dares to challenge me? State your name!"
"Listen well!" Red Fang leaped up, his furious strength bursting forth, he smashed towards Shaorls, "I am Red Fang of the Hanxue Army, Independent Group!"
With a loud bang, Red Fang staggered back several steps, Shaorls also stepped back half a step and twisted his neck, "Red Fang, huh? Not bad skills."
As Red Fang swung his broadsword, chopping down an opportunistic Snow Clan warrior, he took a deep breath, "You’re quite good too."
Clearly, Shaorls had the upper hand in the previous clash, giving Red Fang a slight headache. It seemed the enemy’s force wasn’t merely a single group, and now, all he hoped for was reinforcements to arrive quicker.
Shaorls glanced at the hesitant Red Fang and scoffed, "What? Scared to make a move?"
Finishing his taunt, Shaorls charged at Red Fang, his spear tip gleaming with a chilling light.
Xibo stood anxiously, "Damn, Red Fang has met a tough opponent." If Red Fang could overpower the enemy general, the Independent Group wouldn’t fear the enemy’s numerical superiority, as they still had the Roland Knight Group helping.
But if Red Fang were to be defeated, their opponent’s general could free up his forces to focus on eliminating the Independent Group’s frontline strength, at which point their defeat would be inevitable.
With these thoughts, Xibo frantically scanned around, but the wolf smoke ignited by the Independent Group had received no response whatsoever, and nearby, the space mage’s face was pale, likely having received some bad news through communication.
"Get over here!" Xibo rushed to the space mage and slapped him awake, "What was the response from Group Twelve and Group Six?! Why has no wolf smoke been lit?!"
"Captain Xibo," the space mage trembled, "It’s not just Group Twelve and Six; Groups Thirty-Eight, Forty-Seven, and Twenty-One are all restrained by the enemy and can’t break away to provide support."
Taking a deep breath, Xibo exclaimed, "They’ve marked our Independent Group as the breakthrough point for the second line of defense, contact the rear camp immediately, we need reinforcements!"
"Yes, yes!" the space mage hurriedly responded, activating the spell to communicate with the main camp on the third line of defense.
Meanwhile, the situation at the main camp was dire as well; both front lines were held fast by the enemy, facing immense pressure.
Especially the first line of defense, which was nearly surrounded. If troops weren’t sent soon for relief, the six hundred thousand-strong army might very well be entirely annihilated by the Snow Realm.
"Marshal, the enemy has prioritized a breakthrough at our Independent Group’s position on the second line of defense."
Marshal Pang grasped the war report delivered by a soldier, his eyes fixated on the deployment on the sand table, "Lafa is ruthless, immediately redirect Group Eleven to provide support!"
"But Marshal, Group Eleven has just been sent to support the first line of defense," Mi Feng spoke gravely, "Now, all we have available to deploy are Group Twenty-Two and the Fifth Group."
Puzzled, Marshal Pang asked, "All of them are already dispatched?"
"Yes."
Upon hearing the affirmative response, Marshal Pang slumped into his seat. The forces mobilized by the Snow Realm far exceeded their expectations; nearly the entire nation had come to participate in the war. In contrast, all the reinforcements of the empire’s nobility had been directed towards Divine Blood River. How could they continue this battle?
A urgent message reached Konstantin, who after reading it quickly, looked severely troubled.
New Emperor establishes power!
Those four characters lingered in his mind. That’s right, the Snow Realm Emperor had recently ascended to the throne; a major victory would indeed be a perfect opportunity to consolidate his reputation.
Everyone in the empire had their attention fixed on the battle at Divine Blood River, completely overlooking this point.
What to do? Konstantin suddenly recalled Lando’s words from a few hours ago—perhaps the Hell Sect could indeed help?
Regardless, reinforcements must be sent, but sending troops now would take at least three days to reach the ancient plains. Could the Hanxue Army hold out till then?
