Chapter 198 - 187: River of the Gods

Chapter 198: Chapter 187: River of the Gods

The chaos was immeasurably vast, and his awakening from slumber was just a turn that completely altered the entire territory’s appearance. Magic-wielding demon beasts soared to the skies, while the sheer strength of physical might was greatly weakened, and those originally feeble demon beasts suddenly became powerful.

The Hanxue Army, active within the territory of chaos, also suffered heavy losses. The various magic devices they had set up were destroyed in the upheaval, and the Heavenly Eyes used for surveillance were all rendered useless. The Hanxue Army desperately sent out countless small teams in search of their brethren lost within the Endless Forest.

The truth behind this chaotic disturbance was sought not only by the Empire but also by the Snow Clans of the northern grace of God and the Beastman Empire to the southwest.

For a time, the temporary truce among the three parties within the Endless Forest was shattered. Numerous foreign tribes broke through the Hanxue Army’s defense lines, constantly dispatching scouts towards the source of the turmoil.

"Kill them for me! Even in death, we must clutch the secrets of chaos’s awakening in our hands!" As a part of the Hanxue Army operating within its domain, they were all too aware of the importance of every awakening of chaos. What caused its disturbance drew the full attention of the entire Empire. Konstantin’s command flew into this vast, dense forest, and the Empire’s enormous machinery stationed within the Endless Forest began its operation.

As for our Lu Hong, he was now in the Blue Dragon’s territory, having a leisurely time drinking tea and boasting.

"Brother, what do you think of my collection?" The old Blue Dragon showed Lu Hong his treasures, one by one, to see if there was anything that caught his interest.

"Hey, you old thing, didn’t you say you’d let me take my pick from the Blue Dragon’s treasury? Why are you only letting me look at your collection?" Lu Hong curled his lip and waved his hand dismissively, throwing the treasures that the old Blue Dragon pushed in front of him back.

"Ah, ah, my dear ancestor, be a little more careful." The old Blue Dragon carefully caught a green pendant and said, "This treasure has been blessed by the Goddess of Nature. Although the inscribed skills are not of a high level, they ignore any level resistance, providing the bearer with slow healing." The old Blue Dragon continued, "This is something very suitable for you."

Back when the Lionheart Bloodline was still in him, Lu Hong had utterly disregarded such healing items, and he still did not place much importance on such things now.

"I don’t care; I want to enter your Blue Dragon’s treasury."

"Be a bit more considerate, will you?" The old Blue Dragon pleaded with a mournful face, "How could I possibly get into the Blue Dragon’s treasury of our tribe?"

"Aren’t you the Seventh Elder?" Lu Hong scornfully said, "Or is it that you don’t have enough authority?"

"The Seventh Elder was in the past," the old Blue Dragon mumbled, "Before the last time chaos turned over, I was an elder, but after that event, the power of magic greatly decreased. You’re aware of the strength of the spells I used to cast, so I was... well, I was replaced."

"..." Okay, this guy seems pretty pitiful.

At that moment, a call came from the distance: "You shameless thing, where have you been roaming these days? Did you go fooling around with that female dragon from the neighboring village again?"

Hearing the ranting voice, the old Blue Dragon quickly put on a full-faced smile and said, "My dear wife, I was just out for a walk, to clear my head. I didn’t expect to be ambushed by Swamp Beasts and nearly died. Fortunately, this brave man saved me, and see, I’ve brought him back to express our thanks."

"Really?" The old Blue Dragon’s wife flew up to Lu Hong and looked at the little figure on the ground. "With his skinny arms and legs, he can beat a Swamp Beast?"

"Ah, ah, ah, my wife, you mustn’t talk nonsense," the old Blue Dragon hurriedly said, "Do you know the cause of this chaos’s upheaval?"

"Why?" The old Blue Dragon’s wife scoffed, "It’s probably just some frenzied sleep, nothing serious."

"That was last time. This time it’s different; this time chaos turned because of the presence of this brave man in front of us!" The old Blue Dragon introduced solemnly to his wife, "This person, he’s an envoy of the Heavenly God, called... what was it again?"

Seeing the old Blue Dragon looking toward him embarrassedly, Lu Hong curled his lip. "Lord of Blood."

"Oh... right, right, right, Lord of Blood, even Divine Beasts show him great respect!"

"I don’t believe it, you probably went on a date with that widow, and now you just found someone to deceive me!"

"Woman’s talk! Can’t you sense his storage ring yourself?!" The old Blue Dragon, seeing that his wife did not believe him, urgently scolded, "The words you’ve just said are clearly disrespectful to the Lord of Blood!"

"Don’t frighten me; I have...," The old Blue Dragon’s wife, using her magic sensing skill, was almost blinded by a radiant burst of Gold Light. "My god, forgive me, my lord!"

The old Blue Dragon’s wife crashed to the ground with a thud, her huge dragon body sprawled on the earth, with her head, like that of her husband’s, buried in the dirt.

"Sister-in-law, you are overly cautious, overly cautious, please get up," Lu Hong hurriedly asked her to rise.

The old Blue Dragon added from the side, "My wife, Lord of Blood is now my brother. We’re all family now."

"You really are capable," the wife of the old blue dragon said as she climbed to her feet and leaned against him softly, "I knew you were formidable, I didn’t misjudge you back in the day."

"That’s for sure," the old blue dragon puffed himself up with self-importance, revitalizing his role as the husband.

"By the way, where’s our son?" the old blue dragon asked, "Didn’t I tell him not to run around for no reason?"

"You think our son is like you?" the female blue dragon retorted, "The upheaval and chaos shattered the earth, revealing some of the Ancient Ruins from beneath. Our son went to check out one of the recently exposed sites; he should be back soon."

"The Ancient Ruins are no place for him, didn’t you know to stop him? What if something goes wrong?!" roared the old blue dragon, chastising his wife, "We only have one son, and you let him go off alone?!"

"What’s the big deal, our son is already Level 11, besides, with the return of the power of Magic after this upheaval, he’s not likely to encounter much danger. Isn’t it good for him to go out and gain some experience?" the female blue dragon said, feeling aggrieved, "You always want to keep our son at home—are you trying to make him sick from confinement?"

"Foolish!" the old blue dragon continued to berate her, "And you tell me, how many Spells has he thrown, how much Dragon language has he learned in all these years? All he knows is to train his body; he’s trained himself to waste! A blue dragon, a favored child of Magic, only knows how to punch. Now that Magic has returned, how many decent Spells can he actually cast?!"

"Then, then what should we do?" the female blue dragon, scolded by the old blue dragon, came to her senses—the little blue dragon was born after the last major disturbance when Magic was dormant, so he had focused solely on combat. For hundreds of years, he had been unbeatable among the blue dragons, yet he was always confined by his father and had never faced society’s harsh realities.

"Don’t just stand there, take me to find our son now!" The old blue dragon spread his wings and rose into the air towards Lu Hong, "Brother, you should come too. Perhaps there will be something you want inside the ruins."

Lu Hong nodded. He was naturally interested in the ruins from the Era of the Gods. He mounted the blue dragon’s back, and as the wind howled past his ears, half an hour later, the old blue dragon arrived above the revealed ruins, led by his wife.

From the sky, it seemed more appropriate to call the site not a ruin but a Blood River, emerging from the void and flowing for a kilometer before vanishing back into it, without beginning or end.

Beside the Blood River, three blue dragons were under attack by a group of Demon Beasts, their lives hanging by a thread.

"Good thing we’re on time," the old blue dragon snorted coldly. His Dragon language roared, turning the sky red as countless fiery meteors fell with a whoosh, each one targeting the Demon Beasts below.

The old blue dragon was strong, and he solved the predicament of the blue dragons on the ground with just one Skill.

The young blue dragon in the middle looked up joyfully and said, "Father?!"

"Hmph! Don’t call me father, I’m not your father." The old blue dragon paused, realizing he misspoke and corrected himself hastily, "I don’t have a son like you!"

"Father, I was wrong; I should have listened to you and not run around," apologized the young blue dragon, flying next to the old blue dragon. He then whispered into his ear, "I won’t tell mother about your date with Aunt Mei."

"Good... don’t do it again!" Cold sweat broke out on the old blue dragon’s head as he quickly forgave his son.

"My son, let me see, are you hurt?" The female blue dragon hurried over from the sky and examined the young blue dragon all over, finally breathing a sigh of relief once she confirmed he was unharmed.

"Old fellow, why does this Blood River seem so peculiar?"

The old blue dragon alighted beside the Blood River, his face stern, "This is not an ordinary river; this is Divine Blood, exposed by a deceased Heavenly God!"

"What?! Divine Blood?" Lu Hong’s heart skipped a beat. Just a single drop of War God’s lineage had brought a tremendous boost to his skills—how godlike would he become if he absorbed this lengthy Blood River?!

"Don’t waste your thoughts on such things," the old blue dragon knew exactly what Lu Hong was thinking and spoke up, "While it is true that this is Divine Blood, it is of no use to you."

"Why?" Lu Hong asked, puzzled.

"Because it’s too ancient. The Divine Blood has been evaporating in the void for ages, its Divine Power has become extremely diluted, losing its divinity. If you were at the peak of Third Transition, this Divine Blood might have given you a chance to ascend to godhood, but at a lower level, even if you got your hands on it, it would be useless. On the contrary, the diluted Divine Power could forcibly destroy your body."

"Okay then," Lu Hong nodded, disappointed, after the old blue dragon’s explanation.

"Father, can I drink it?" The young blue dragon also edged closer, eyeing the Blood River with a greedy look.

"Don’t even think about it," the old blue dragon smacked his son across the face, "This is the blood of a human Heavenly God; it’s useless to Demon Beasts."

"Then why do I feel such a deep craving in my soul?" asked the young blue dragon, confused.

"That’s just like a moth to the flame." As the old blue dragon spoke, he pulled the other two young blue dragons back from the Blood River. Both of them were corroded by their inner desires, and the old blue dragon had no choice but to knock them out. "Wife, take them home; we shouldn’t stay here for long. More endless Demon Beasts will be summoned by the scent of the blood."
