Chapter 178: Chapter 169 Breaking the Seal
Through the express teleportation portal provided by the general, Lock Fan and his companions instantly arrived at the plane of Holy Light.
But where was their leader, Lu Hong? They didn’t know. Even though Nono, the creature with special abilities, was bound by a contract with Lu Hong, the contract wasn’t omnipotent. Nono couldn’t use it to pinpoint Lu Hong’s whereabouts; at most, it only indicated that he wasn’t dead.
Confronted with the group’s bewilderment, Mei Chuan Qiuku, a student, was the first to speak, "Let’s head to East Look Mountain first. That was the last place the boss showed up before he went missing. Maybe we’ll find some clues there."
"Qiuku is right!" Everyone agreed with nods, then set off together for East Look Mountain.
Two days later, the group arrived at the scorched East Look Mountain, now cordoned off, with the guard being the same knight Lu Hong had previously stood up.
"Hey, don’t you know this area is off-limits?" As a commander in the Gold Family, his stature had plummeted since the surrender, particularly after being reported for having opposed Lu Hong, a respected hero. His military position was suppressed in an instant, relegating him to the dismal role of a watchman.
Fortunately, the knight harbored no hard feelings. His service in the Gold Family had been merely a means to advance his training and secure resources. Presently located in this desolate place, where neither chickens pooped nor birds laid eggs, he felt quite unfettered. After all, he had amassed a large supply of resources he needed to increase his level and wasn’t worried about running out anytime soon.
"We’re here to find our boss," Mo Bei, dissatisfied, spoke to the adjudicating knight, "Why can’t we enter?"
"Because Her Majesty the Queen visits once a month, and in order to guarantee her safety, this area is under restriction," the knight replied, leaning back on a haystack and taking a long swig of his liquor, then continued, "Go back where you came from. There’s nothing but ruins here, nothing to see."
"That won’t do," Lock Fan said sternly. "Sir, we must go in. Please grant us this favor. Our boss’s clues could very well be inside. Moreover, we’re acquainted with the current Queen."
"If you know her, that simplifies things. Get an edict from the Queen, and I won’t stand in your way," the knight gestured dismissively, "As for now, you came from where, you go back where."
"Damn it, Lock, let’s sort him out!" The students, now inflated with bravado from battle-hardened experience, picked up their weapons and were ready to fight.
Lock Fan hurriedly intervened. Others might not see it, but he definitely knew – this knight was a Third Transition powerhouse, someone who could crush them in a minute. To fight him would be suicidal.
"What kind of boss, haha!" the knight scoffed at them with a cold stare, "Your boss is a soldier from the Gold Family, right? Let me tell you, in the battle of East Look Mountain, except for the two Grand Offerings, everyone else perished. So it’s best you give up."
"Our boss is Tukuru, who killed the Grand Offerings – he’s no trivial figure!" Someone retorted, cutting off the knight’s words.
"What?!" The knight was taken aback, hastily sitting up straight. From their conversation, it was clear their boss wasn’t dead. If Tukuru was their boss, did that mean the powerful figure who defeated the three Grand Offerings from the Gold Family was still alive?!
"I’m telling you, our boss is the hero who reclaimed Holy Light, and he’s not dead!"
"Come with me inside." Regardless of whether the slayer of the Grand Offerings was his former enemy, such a powerful person deserved the knight’s respect. He quickly pulled Lock Fan with him to go inside, reversing his prior attitude, "Is it really true he’s not dead?"
"Of course, woof woof! Woof woof!"
"Hmm? Is Nono becoming a spirit, a demon?" The knight squinted at Nono, not quite grasping the concept.
"Hehe! Woof woof!" Nono dashed out, sniffing around the charred remains of East Look Mountain in search of something.
Seeing the desolation of East Look Mountain, Lock Fan and the others realized their helplessness; the area was completely barren, with nothing left. Aside from Nono, no one else could find any clues – how could they search when there was literally nothing?
Although the knight had been there for a long while, each time he surveyed the scene before him, he couldn’t help but marvel at the outcome under the constraints of the plane’s suppression. It was evident just how fierce the previous battle was, commanding both fear and respect.
"Are you sure we can find clues to the hero here?" the knight asked Lock Fan, puzzled.
"Uh... well, Nono should uncover something, right?" Faced with the bleakness of East Look Mountain, Lock Fan himself wasn’t sure. Thus, the group could only fix their gaze on the scurrying Nono.
The ten-mile radius was vast, and it took Nono the better part of the day to find the place where Lu Hong had been last buried by Piao Miao.
"This is it, woof woof! Here! Woof woof! This is it, woof woof! Here! Woof woof!" Nono barked loudly at the spot where Lu Hong had been buried alive, instantly awakening the deflated spirits of Lock Fan and the others, who quickly gathered around.
"Here, woof woof! Master’s, woof woof! Scent is, woof woof! Strongest, still, woof woof! Spreading out," Nono continued to bark.
"Could it be something buried by Brother Tu?" Something continuously emitting the scent of its owner could only be a personal item—underwear? Lock Fan’s mind suddenly filled with images, but why bury clothes?
"Stand back, I’ll do it," a Knight said, also very curious about what the hero might have left buried beneath the scorched earth.
He took out a top-quality spear, and the moment he grasped the weapon, his aura surged powerfully, his third Transition’s might forcing everyone to step back.
"Don’t damage what the boss buried!" Lock Fan shouted a warning.
"Don’t worry," the Knight said, as the power of Holy Light within him surged dramatically. The spear, like a dragon, pierced fiercely downward. A beam of Holy Light shone down, and upon contacting the Ice Seal by Piao Miao, it trembled violently, nearly collapsing under a surge of rebounding force that emerged from the ground, and in a moment of carelessness, the spear flew out of the Knight’s hands.
"There really is something!" The Knight’s eyes lit up as he called out to Lock Fan, "Pick up my spear.
"Can you actually handle this or not?" Lock Fan, holding the returned spear, was full of skepticism.
"Nonsense, I’m a Third Transition strongman. That was just a moment of carelessness," said the Knight, his face turning red as he once again mustered his strength and thrust violently at the ground.
This time, the Knight used all his might, blasting open the scorched earth to reveal Lu Hong’s Ice-Sealed body.
"Boss?!" The crowd was shocked and enraged, not expecting that Lu Hong had been buried here all this time.
"None of you come closer!" The Knight sternly admonished everyone. He quickly activated the power of Holy Light to envelop Lu Hong, preventing the chill of the Ice Seal from injuring the others.
"This was done by a Peak strongman. More than half a year has passed, and the chill has not dissipated—it’s definitely the work of someone at the Third Transition Peak," the Knight said gravely. "It seems he was attacked by surprise. With chill this intense, I doubt he could survive. Could this be the Ice Snow Shrine’s Third Palace Master’s preparation for a frozen burial?"
The Knight could only think of Xue Mei from the battlefield before, as only she had such power. The hidden Gold Family of Piao Miao, almost no one knew her level, so the Knight couldn’t link the perpetrator to her.
"Regardless, can you break the Ice Seal? Nono had signed a contract with the boss. Nono says the contract has not been broken, which means the boss is not dead," Lock Fan said gravely, his heart already burning with rage over the boss’s plight.
"I’ll try, but it might take some time," said the Knight, who was well aware of the means of a Third Transition Peak. Bragging wouldn’t suffice.
"You all secure the perimeter; stop anyone else from getting near. If you encounter someone you can’t stop, send a signal immediately," Lock Fan commanded gravely, certain that there was a hidden mastermind behind Lu Hong being buried here. The first suspect was Xue Mei, who belonged to Nono’s people. Although Lock Fan didn’t believe Nono would do such a thing, he couldn’t be sure since he knew so little about Nono, giving him all the more reason to suspect.
The Knight gave Lock Fan a look, approving of his handling of the situation, then spoke, "Don’t worry, my senses are monitoring the surroundings. No one will find out."
"Senior, there’s no trap on this Ice Seal, right?"
With a smile, the Knight responded to Lock Fan’s caution, "Don’t worry, breaking the seal won’t trigger anything on their end."
Then he began to attack the Ice Seal with his power, gradually weakening its chill.
After three days of effort, the Knight finally broke through the Ice Seal.
As the Magic Power of the ice dissipated, Lu Hong’s eyes, which had been tightly shut, snapped open, and the solitary eye bestowed upon him by the demonic ancestral spirit burst forth with a dazzling purple light that shot into the heavens.
Far beyond in the endless interdimensional planes, the demonic ancestral spirit was crossing through one such plane; sensing something, he looked back, smiling and shaking his head, "I hadn’t expected you, young fellow, to awaken the power of the God’s Eye sooner than the tribe of one. Truly remarkable for your age!"
