Chapter 161: Chapter 154: Disaster to the East (Part 1)

Lu Hong’s silhouette flickered continuously amid the flames, wherever his gaze landed, the blood-stained hands stretching out from ghastly faces would kill the enemy on the spot. Numerous souls perished under Lu Hong’s Bloodthirst Skill as he ascended the mountain.

Similarly, during the constant search, more than twenty dying warriors of the Thunder Clan were rescued; however, many more had already perished in the battle with the soldiers of the Gold Family, leaving behind only their cold corpses.

"Sir, many of our squads have lost contact," voiced a Second-Transformation Peak Mage fairly concerned, from within the military camp at the base of East Look Mountain.

"Dead?" one of the Third Transition Middle Stage powers, who was indulging in the drink, glanced at the kneeling Mage and said coldly, "What’s the big deal about losing a few men? The opponent is Hank from the Thunder Clan, typical, just grind him down." It was clear that he was quite displeased by the interruption.

"But..." the Mage attempted to say more but was harshly interrupted: "But what? Lord Fiery Wrath has already unleashed his fury, these men are either dead or crippled. If we still need to step in personally, what use is keeping useless creatures like you around? Get out now!"

"Alright, alright, no need to get angry, let’s keep drinking," another Third Transition Middle Stage strongman waved the Mage off.

"Humph!"

Faced with his superior’s rebuke, the Mage, filled with frustration, left the tent. Yet, this issue couldn’t be ignored—the forces ascending the mountain were dying faster than those who had entered initially. Sending out thirty thousand, now over half had lost contact—could it be empire’s people rescuing them?

That didn’t seem right either. Who could slaughter so silently? Each thousand-man unit was accompanied by a Mage for communication purposes. Even if a Third Transition powerhouse ambushed them, surely a Mage would have a chance to sound an alarm?

Contemplating, the Second-Transformation Peak Mage decided to ascend the mountain himself to see what was truly happening.

Under the reflection of the firelight, the path was densely crowded with the Gold Family’s soldiers. As the Mage searched continuously based on the troop numbers, the missing soldiers were "neither seen alive nor found dead"—what on earth had happened?

Suddenly, a blood-soaked arm burst forth from the firelight.

"Spatial Solidification!" The Mage responded quickly, unleashing a Skill to block the advancing bloody hand.

However, the bloody hand directly shattered the Mage’s spatial defense, pulling him from the sky.

"Spatial Slash!" The Mage once again activated a Skill, severing the bloody hand, and thus he plummeted to the ground.

"Mage?" Lu Hong, who was in need of a guide, thought, ’Isn’t this convenient?’

"Who are you?!" The Mage, frightened, looked at the blood-covered man before him, the hideous ghostly face and numerous bloody hands behind him sending chills through his heart.

"Do you know where old Hank is?" Lu Hong continuously searched the mountain but still hadn’t spotted him. Dead? Hank wasn’t someone who would die easily; he must still be trying to escape.

"You think I would tell you? The soldiers who entered the mountain were all killed by you, weren’t they?" the Mage said gravely.

Lu Hong nodded, "Correct. If you tell me where Hank is now, I’ll consider sparing you."

"Dream on!" Despite being a Second-Transformation Peak Mage, which commanded respect everywhere else except when facing Third Transition foes, why would he just submit?

Even though Lu Hong appeared incredibly eerie, the Mage was confident in a fight—after all, the Mage represented the pinnacle of his profession.

"Spatial Slash!" the Mage muttered the incantation, summoning four invisible blades that flew toward Lu Hong.

Mage’s Spatial Slash was a skill they prided themselves on—although its range and power were not great, its sharpness was genuinely formidable. With the Magic Power of a Second-Transformation Peak Mage, one strike of Spatial Slash could shatter any magic artifact below level-six.

However, the Mage’s pride crumbled in the next second.

Spatial Slash, which should only be dodged by those below Third Transition, was caught barehanded by the opponent, completely overturning his understanding.

Lu Hong was not being overconfident; his robust vitality had formed a protective layer around him. As long as his vitality wasn’t exhausted, this defense wouldn’t fail. Since Spatial Slash was still a Magic Skill rather than a physical object, it could be safely neutralized by offsetting the spatial Magic Power.

"You... you are a Third Transition powerhouse?" That was the only explanation, right?

"Me?" Lu Hong chuckled lightly, "If I were at Third Transition, all of you would have been dead long ago."

As he spoke, the ghastly face behind him extended several more bloody hands towards the Mage.

The Mage quickly retreated while reciting a spell rapidly: "Spatial Teleport!"

Intimidation!

Lu Hong wasn’t about to give him the chance to escape; a fierce shout caused the Mage to almost blackout.

By the time he came to his senses, he was already grasped by the bloody hands and brought before Lu Hong.

"Speak, where is old Hank?"

"Will you not kill me if I tell you?" the Mage asked in terror, honestly not wanting to die.

Only after receiving a confirmation from Lu Hong did he relax and say, "Ten minutes ago, I received a report; Hank from the Thunder Clan is being driven to the summit."

The summit, huh? Lu Hong looked up at the fiery peak of the mountain, a place far beyond his expectations. The fire there burned most intensely, making the mountaintop a blazing furnace, consuming all life that approached it.

Boom!

Lu Hong dropped the Mage and dashed towards the mountain summit.

The Mage watched his back helplessly, relieved, knowing he had to immediately report to the three lords. If they did not intervene, there was a real chance Hank could be rescued, which would infuriate the elders and incur severe penalties.

"Ah, isn’t this Lord Lin? Shouldn’t you be serving the three lords right now? How come you are here?" Pat emerged from nowhere, approaching the Mage with an eager face.

"Are you... Pat?" It took the Mage a while to recognize him, as he wasn’t particularly well-known in the army.

"Yes, yes, yes, Lord Lin, you still remember me. What brings you here?" Pat helped the Mage up, asking, "Did something happen to you, Lord Lin?"

The Mage nodded, "Somehow, a terrifying strongman appeared here, and I need to report to the three lords immediately..."

Before he could finish, the Mage felt a sharp pain in his back. "You..."

"Sorry, your position is just too crucial. If you don’t die, the message would spread too quickly, I had no other choice," Pat said casually. Then, flipping his dagger, he thoroughly mashed the Mage’s heart, tossed the body into the fire, and followed Lu Hong.

As Lu Hong assaulted the summit, he slew countless soldiers along the way. The blood-red ghostly face behind him grew larger and larger. Even from the base of the mountain, one could see a bizarre shadow of blood dancing wildly in the flames.

At this time, the three powerful members of the Gold family were still drinking and chatting, completely unaware of the battle situation on the mountain.

Fortunately, the guards at the base finally reported what they saw to them.

"A blood ghost?" The Third Transition Beast King slammed down his liquor bowl, stared coldly at the kneeling soldier beside him, and said, "Is it that old man drank too much, or are you hallucinating?"

Saying so, the Beast King stepped out of the tent. The dancing blood shadow instantly sobered him up most of the way—any fool could tell something had changed on the mountain. "Not good!"

The Beast King roared, and a tenth-level giant scorpion burst from the ground.

"Follow me to the mountain!" The Beast King jumped on the scorpion’s back and disappeared into the night.

As for the other two Third Transition strongmen who stepped out of the tent, they also looked solemn, but did not follow.

"I’ll search the left side."

"Then I’ll search the right side."

The two Third Transition strongmen suspected the Empire had sent a rescue team, hoping to catch the reinforcements at the base of the mountain.

The closer to the summit, the higher the temperature. Lu Hong easily tore through the besieging soldiers, finally spotting old Hank kneeling on the ground among the enemy ranks.

The blood-red arm swept across the field; no skill could withstand its power. Lu Hong approached old Hank and said softly, "I am late."

Old Hank forcefully opened his blood-blurred eyes, "Is that you, kid?"

"It’s me, I’m here to get you out."

"You shouldn’t have come here," old Hank collapsed into Lu Hong’s arms, "they have too many people."

"Don’t worry, I definitely won’t let you die," Lu Hong laughed aloud. "Pat, come out!"

"Hey, hey, hey, I’m here." Pat caught up just in time, looking around the empty surroundings, a chill spreading in his heart. This place should have been swarming with Gold family soldiers.

Pat looked up at the ghostly face behind Lu Hong. How many lives had this thing devoured?!

"Take him away safely." Lu Hong handed old Hank over to Pat, then told old Hank, "This is our man, rest well with him, and I’ll treat you to a drink another day."

"Hahaha, sure, cough, cough..." old Hank laughed, spitting out a mouthful of fresh blood.

"Take the other side down the mountain," Lu Hong instructed as he pointed behind him. "Powerful enemies are on their way."

"Okay." Pat nodded, sensing the Third Transition strongmen had noticed something unusual on the mountain. "Be careful, the leaders of the army this time are the Beast King, the Dream Master, and the Grand Sin Bishop."

"The Dream Master..." Lu Hong realized why old Hank had ended up in such dire straits; he must have fallen for the opponent’s Illusion Technique.

As for the Grand Sin Bishop, that was the Priest’s Third Transition advancement, skilled in Divine Punishment—if proficient in divine spells, not to be underestimated.

Soon after Pat left, a hundred-meter-long giant scorpion rushed up to Lu Hong and stopped.

The Third Transition Beast King glared at Lu Hong, "Where are the soldiers of the Gold family?" On his way, except for the mountain fire, he saw nothing; aside from the twenty thousand troops guarding the base, the entire fifty thousand soldiers that entered the mountain had vanished without a trace.

Lu Hong pointed at the thousand-foot ghostly face behind him and smiled, "They’re all in here!"

The Beast King’s face immediately soured, "You deserve to die!"

Lu Hong roared, unable to suppress the last shred of his sanity anymore, plunging into madness. The once subsiding fires of East Look Mountain flared up again into towering blood-red flames.
