Chapter 150: Chapter 143 The Basa Family
After a while, Lu Hong slowly came to, his eyes full of rugged, bearded men, which startled him.
"You’re awake?" Andrei pushed aside the rugged men who had gathered around Lu Hong and said, "I guess you were trying to assassinate Craig, but I didn’t expect that you almost succeeded."
"Thank you," Lu Hong looked at Andrei and said his thanks, then felt a pang of regret, "Still, it was close." Lu Hong knew that the last strike that hit Craig was at the extreme range of attack, and with the opponent’s Third Transition earth-based skills, he could have survived.
"It’s not a pity, I helped you complete the follow-up work, and now Craig is already dead," Andrei laughed.
"Why did you save me?"
Before Andrei could answer, a woman’s voice rang out from not far away, "Because Uncle Andrei thought you would become our ally, but I think you might not be as useful to us as you imagine."
Lu Hong sat up and glanced at the woman approaching him. She was quite pretty, but compared to Danni, Nono, Luois, Lando, and so on, she was still far behind.
Thinking this, Lu Hong suddenly gasped. Had he really become so ambiguously involved with so many women?
After reflecting, Lu Hong fell into a brief silence. It seemed he was really straying further on the path of a scoundrel!
The woman, seeing the dull expression on Lu Hong’s face, couldn’t help but feel disgusted and cursed in her heart, "Scoundrel!" Luckily, she had changed her appearance; if this lecher saw her true face, it would absolutely disgust her so much she wouldn’t be able to eat for three days.
"Cough, cough!" The woman coughed loudly several times to express her dissatisfaction, sadly failing to pull Lu Hong back from his thoughts.
"Young man?" Andrei gently pushed Lu Hong, smiling awkwardly. After all, staring at a young lady like that was absolutely not a gentlemanly thing to do, and the rugged men around them also felt some indignation at Lu Hong’s disrespect.
"Huh?" Lu Hong snapped back to reality, looked around in confusion, and wondered, "What happened? Weren’t everyone smiling just now? How did the expressions change while I was lost in thought?"
"Hmph! Such a lecher like you, I should have known not to save you!" the woman said coldly.
"Ouch." Although Lu Hong didn’t understand why this woman was randomly labeling him, he absolutely didn’t accept being tagged as a pervert and retorted with sarcasm, "Don’t worry, miss. Even if I were a pervert, I’m not desperate. You’re far from meeting my standards."
"You?!!!" The woman trembled with anger, pointing at Lu Hong and ordered, "Kill this scoundrel!"
"Hey, hey, hey, everyone calm down!" Andrei, overwhelmed by their sudden hostile interaction, quickly intervened, "Let’s all say less, there must be some misunderstanding."
"What misunderstanding? You shouldn’t have saved him in the first place!" the woman stomped furiously, then turned and walked away.
"Hmph!"
With a bang, the door was slammed shut.
"Miss, Miss!?" The rugged men left Lu Hong a menacing look and then chased after her.
In a blink of an eye, the somewhat crowded bedroom was left with only Lu Hong and Andrei.
The two men just stared at each other, Lu Hong had many questions but didn’t want to speak, obviously still concerned about the baffling misunderstanding that just occurred.
As for Andrei, he was still waiting for Lu Hong to initiate the conversation to control the rhythm of the talk, calculating how to pull Lu Hong into their organization through this conversation.
So...
"Alright, let me reintroduce myself." Andrei admitted defeat, the young man in front of him truly had patience, "I am Andrei Bassa, a chief steward of the Bassa family."
"Huh?" Lu Hong was startled again from his memories of several close female friends, "Didn’t you say earlier that you were from Andrei’s family?"
"Even the Bassa family is considered a branch of the Bassa clan and was a disguise used by the Bassa clan to infiltrate the Gold family," Andrei lamented. "Unfortunately, despite years of effort, the Gold family discovered some leads. Otherwise, why would they use the entry of the Silver-White family to test us?"
To prevent the Gold family from discovering their tricks, the Bassa clan chose to sacrifice a part of themselves in a decisive fire, completely annihilating themselves and leaving no opportunities for the Gold family.
"Didn’t you sacrifice a lot of people?" Lu Hong asked in surprise.
"It’s bearable; sacrifices are inevitable on the path of revolution," Andrei replied gravely. "Such sacrifices are not wasted. Every comrade’s sacrifice helps pave the way for our ultimate victory."
"Ha!" Lu Hong obviously disagreed with Andrei’s ideology and mocked, "That’s probably for building the Imperial Palace, isn’t it? No amount of lives would suffice."
Born alongside the Gold family, the Bassa clan resulted from a schism within the Gold family. It emerged from the Gold family’s initial submission to the Empire—a powerful clan that had controlled dozens of planes, establishing its own domain. They could not contentedly remain subservient forever.
At the time, there were two factions within the Gold family: one desired to resist until the end, while the other preferred to feign subservience, gradually plotting against the Sacred Empire.
Those who supported the first view thought the second strategy was undignified, as subtle tactics cannot be controlled after submission. They deemed the latter group cowardly and saw them as dragging down the clan’s progression to strength.
Regarding the second voice, their opinion of the first group was simple: reckless brutes, nothing more than rash fools, inadequate to be the supporting pillars of the Gold family, much less lead the family to glory.
When significant divergences emerged within a family, fragmentation occurred. While the rash group was casually preparing to refute the cowards, they were unaware that the other faction had already planned an ambush.
Following a bloody purge, the voice of the Gold family consolidated, and they smoothly accepted the Empire’s decree.
Of course, not all of the brash individuals perished, and those not promptly eradicated formed the origins of the Bassa clan.
Surviving an ambush by cowards, these rash individuals secretly gathered. Ashamed to still call themselves the Gold family after such betrayal, they renamed themselves the Bassa clan—"Bassa" meaning "rebirth" in Yuanhua Continent, signifying their rebirth from the decaying Gold family, intent on replacing them.
After establishing the Bassa clan, the descendents of these brash individuals reflected deeply. Blindly valuing strength was futile; adaptability was necessary. There’s a saying—If you can’t beat them, join them.
If the Bassa clan couldn’t outmatch the Gold family in scheming, they chose to learn from them, adopting a path of concealment and continuously seeking opportunities to overturn the Gold family’s rule.
Of course, the result was tragic. After allying with the Empire, the Gold family opened a prosperous route to All Heavens and Myriads of Worlds, consistently expanding their power under the Empire’s protection—a rapid development even the pro-active measures of other powerful families could not contain.
With such vigorous growth, what chance did the struggling remnants of the Bassa family have to regain control?
Thus, the Bassa family entered nearly a thousand years of hiding. During this time, the Gold family never detected such a vigilant clan under their rulership.
Originally, the Bassa clan might have continued this extended concealment until they forgot their mission.
However, the Empire’s aggressive expansion into the Yuanhua rattled them awake, providing a glimpse of hope—a chance to reclaim their family’s glory.
"So, uh..." After hearing Andrei’s explanation, Lu Hong patted his shoulder amicably. "It hasn’t been easy for you all, truly not easy."
"It’s all for the glory of our family!" Andrei shook his head and said solemnly, "For our family’s mission, even sacrificing our lives is not too great a cost."
Listening to Andrei’s rallying cry, Lu Hong thought that if the Bassa family was in his old world, they would definitely be the guiding stars of multi-level marketing.
A thousand years of inactivity yet still imprinting the mission of power on their family’s hearts—such brainwashing is not just skillful; it’s exceptional!
"Okay then, goodbye!" Although he knew Andrei was the enemy of his enemy, it didn’t mean they needed to be friends. Lu Hong instinctively rejected their philosophy of sacrifice, being absolutely unwilling to cooperate with such a family organization. Plus, if it weren’t for the inaccurate information Andrei provided at the teahouse, he wouldn’t have ended up in such a dire situation, drained of all vitality and no different from a mortal.
"Hey, hey, brother, don’t go!" Andrei hurriedly tried to stop Lu Hong, saying, "Considering your actions against Craig, I thought you must be sent by the Empire?"
Facing a confident Andrei, Lu Hong smiled, "Sorry, you guessed wrong. I just have a personal grievance with Craig, that’s all."
"A personal grievance, really?" Andrei, unsatisfied, gave him a skeptical look. Considering that he kept asking about Craig at the teahouse, how could he possibly have a grievance when he clearly didn’t know the man? That would be outright lying!
