Chapter 114: Chapter 112 Cui Xi’s Good Intentions
Three days had whisked by, and Lu Hong’s injuries had recovered a little with the help of Tong Ling’s Magic Potion.
"Big Brother Tu, are you getting used to living here?" Cui Xi sat in front of Lu Hong’s bed, her face brimming with smiles, her tone gentle.
These past few days, Cui Xi would visit him morning, noon, and night. Of course, Lu Hong didn’t think this was out of Cui Xi’s kindness; she was just watching for an opportunity to kill him.
"Thanks to you, my recovery has been very good." Lu Hong, thinking of Cui Xi’s previous actions, couldn’t help but ask curiously, "What does it feel like to be willing to kill your own relatives for the sake of seizing control over the family?"
"Well..." Facing such a sharp topic, Cui Xi showed no aversion, instead seriously recalling the scene at that time and began, "When I killed my uncle Ku Le, I felt relieved, happy, and also felt the burden on my shoulders suddenly increase!"
"Is that all?" Not hearing a hint of regret from Cui Xi’s mouth, a chill rose in Lu Hong’s heart. This woman’s malice was perhaps a bit too much.
"Yes, isn’t that enough? Or should I feel indebted? Guilty for killing my own uncle?" Cui Xi understood what Lu Hong meant and continued, "Uncle Ku Le was very kind to me since I was young, but he was really too hard-working. Once as a child, I insisted on going to the Demon Dynasty for fun, right when the grand meeting of the Demon Dynasty was being held. I originally thought our Kan Grey family was a prominent family among the demons, but on that day, my inner faith completely crumbled."
Cui Xi smiled and said, "I watched the uncle I revered most try to ingratiate himself with the second son of the Jade Illusion family, even going as far as to lie on the ground barking like a dog. I cried then, standing there stunned. It was from that moment on that I knew our Kan Grey family was nothing more than a money tree in the eyes of the great families of the Demon Dynasty, just an unwanted stray dog."
"Do you know? At this year’s first half of the Demon Dynasty’s grand meeting, a steward from the Xihe demon’s lineage, just a mere steward, actually made my uncle lick the bottom of his shoes." Cui Xi’s smile faded, and her face gradually grew colder: "More than half of the families in the entire Demon Clan had insulted my uncle, I’ve recorded each of these debts, and I’m determined to drive them to extinction one day!"
"But it was you who killed your uncle with your own hands."
Faced with Lu Hong’s questioning, Cui Xi’s smile returned, "Yes, because I think Uncle Ku Le had really lived a life that was too tiring, too hard. He should have gone to the Underworld to enjoy himself earlier."
"Your uncle had no special abilities and probably couldn’t attract a Ming Yan officer to collect his soul." It wasn’t simple for the deceased to have their souls enter the Underworld. Unless you had a special talent or were very powerful in life, you would be favored by the Ming Yan officers, who would then take your soul back to the Underworld.
"Besides, going to the Underworld isn’t necessarily the same as enjoying good fortune, is it?" Lu Hong asked doubtfully. If going to the Underworld meant enjoying good fortune, then what would heaven be?
"No matter if others can enjoy good fortune, Uncle Ku Le definitely can." Cui Xi seemed very sure that Ku Le would be able to go to the Underworld after death. To prove her point, Cui Xi took a black flower out of her Space Ring.
"What is this?" Lu Hong was seeing such a thing for the first time. The flower looked ordinary, but it seemed to hide a mysterious power, making it feel both ethereal and incredibly real.
"This is the clan emblem flower of the Underworld’s Ming River family, one of the three major families, called You Jian. Just by smearing the juice of this flower on the body of the deceased, the Ming Yan officers will do everything to bring that person’s soul back to the Underworld, safely to the Ming River family. It’s rumored that You Jian had long since vanished from the Underworld, so any soul tainted with this flower would certainly be treated as an honored guest by the Ming River family, as a way to honor their clan flower."
Lu Hong looked at the You Jian in Cui Xi’s hand, amazed that she had gone to such an extreme just for Ku Le. Wasn’t it better to honor him while he was alive? Yet she had to wait until his death for him to enjoy blessings. But on further thought, Cui Xi’s method was not unsound. As long as Ku Le was alive, he would probably be the biggest obstacle to Cui Xi’s intention to reform the family. Cui Xi loved him but had to rid herself of him; this method was likely the result of her deliberations.
"Don’t just look at the You Jian as something ordinary; it’s very hard to find in the All Heavens and Myriads of Worlds. I spent a great deal of effort, had people search through over seven thousand planes over the course of two years, to barely gather two." Cui Xi put away the You Jian, "You see, I’ve told you all my deepest secrets. Can you do me a favor?"
"Hmm..." Lu Hong hesitated; he dared not easily agree to her request: "You tell me first."
"Don’t worry, it’s definitely not harming you. I just want you to keep a secret, about the secret of my strength."
"You still want to play the innocent?" Lu Hong looked at Cui Xi in disbelief; how could she make the Kan Grey family hold their heads up high among the demons without demonstrating a significant level of power?
"Yes, I’ve got everything within the family arranged, only you are a loose end. I don’t want to enter the sight of the major families too early."
Lu Hong nodded; he could agree to a request that wouldn’t harm him.
Seeing Lu Hong agree, Cui Xi seemed to have achieved her goal, got up to say goodbye, "Then let’s end our conversation here for today. You just stay here and recuperate with peace of mind. Whatever you need, just ask the servants, and I’ll fulfill your needs."
Cui Xi walked out, closed the door behind her, took two steps forward, then suddenly said, "Don’t even think about targeting him. Even I’m not sure I can kill him, and you definitely won’t stand a chance."
After a while, other than the breeze sweeping a few fallen leaves, there was no movement around.
Seeing no response from the other party, Cui Xi sneered, "Do you think you, an assassin, can hide from my sight as a Hunter? If you don’t show yourself, I’ll cripple your legs and throw you back to the Bai family."
What Cui Xi said was not false; the assassin’s ability to stay hidden was indeed difficult to track. Although Lu Hong had realized someone was watching him, as a warrior, he had no good way to force this assassin to show himself. If he used a wide Blood Qi Shockwave, the assassin would Escape out of attack range before he even got started. Among all the classes, only Hunters had the means to discover assassins, and Hunters made it especially easy, thanks to a particular Skill they possessed—vision perception.
After Cui Xi dropped her threat, the other party could no longer hide and emerged from the shadows.
The person in question was the assassin arranged by the Bai Jiabo’s old servant to track down Lu Hong. Cui Xi glanced at him and spoke, "Go back. The day he fought a fierce battle with Tong Ling was your only chance to strike, but you lacked the courage to step forward. Instead, you even exposed yourself, utterly disgracing the Bai family."
"Miss Cui Xi, I ask that you speak with more respect," the Bai family’s assassin said with a low voice, clearly dissatisfied with Cui Xi’s insulting words.
"Respect? Your Bai family is worthy of it?" Cui Xi showed a scornful smile.
"You—!" Unable to restrain himself, the Bai family’s assassin charged at Cui Xi, dagger aimed straight for her fair neck.
"Seeking death." Cui Xi was not in the least bit intimidated by the assailant’s surprise attack. With a single slap, her surging Magic Power first repelled the enemy’s offensive and then she stepped forward to entangle with the attacker.
Unable to hold out for even three minutes, the Bai family’s assassin sustained attack after attack, being beaten until he staggered backward, spitting out blood.
"Who gave you the courage? A mere assassin dares to take on a hunter?" Having said that, Cui Xi kicked the Bai family’s assassin away, "Roll back to the Bai family, and tell Bai Tianhang to behave himself. The Bai family’s impunity within the Demon Empire has all been Yan Demon King’s doing, having nothing to do with your family’s actual strength. Without the protection of the Demon King Yan, I alone could exterminate you all."
"You!" The assassin, enduring the pain of his wounds tearing open, wanted to retort, to rage, yet he held back and finally said helplessly, "Just you wait! The Family Head won’t let you get away with this!"
"Heh!" Cui Xi watched him leave with a cold eye, her lips curling into a smirk, "I’ve gotten rid of your tail for you, I wonder if you’ll thank me for that, hm?"
"Do I need your help?" At this moment, Lu Hong’s voice came from inside the house.
"Sigh! I was hoping you’d owe me a favor, seems I’m meddling unnecessarily," Cui Xi said with regret, shaking her head as she leisurely walked away.
Hunter...
Lu Hong lay in bed, reminded by Cui Xi’s profession of his past ordeal in Tuzhui City. Given the chance, he would definitely kill that detestable hunter himself!
Three days later, Lu Hong got out of bed. He strolled leisurely in the restored courtyard and wandered into a patch filled with pink Peach Blossom Forest.
Not only that, the sight of the Peach Blossom Forest looked incredibly familiar to him, so familiar that he couldn’t immediately recall where he had seen it before.
Suddenly, a strong gust of wind blew by, sweeping the pink petals into the air, showering the place in a floral rain, while a graceful figure appeared vaguely in the depths of the Peach Blossom Forest.
Lu Hong walked closer out of curiosity, discovering it was Cui Xi, who was performing a sword dance within the Peach Blossom Forest.
This sword was not for killing, but a dance of swordsmanship, purely for show.
Cui Xi seemed to pay no mind to the onlooker, her sword dance as smooth as flowing water, which made Lu Hong couldn’t help but applaud appreciatively.
After the dance, Cui Xi slowly regained her posture and turned to Lu Hong, "This sword dance of mine, only one person in the world has seen it before. Now you are the second."
"That’s a pity, truly. If you performed for money, I’m sure you’d make a fortune," he quipped.
In response to Lu Hong’s teasing, Cui Xi didn’t play along, instead asking, "Are you out for a walk today to say goodbye to me?"
"You’re very astute. That’s exactly what I was thinking."
Cui Xi didn’t attempt to keep him, "I believe we’ll meet again."
"I’d rather not." Lu Hong waved his hand, "Thank you for that final sword dance, I’ll remember it."
Just as Lu Hong was about to leave, something seemed to occur to him. He turned back and asked, "Has your family’s secret chamber collapsed?"
"No use, the secret chamber was built with the utmost defense in mind. That’s the only part of the Kanggari family’s territory that survived from your duel with Tong Ling. Why? You want to go in?"
Lu Hong nodded, "I’d like to take another look inside."
"No problem, follow me."
