Chapter 1724: Chapter 1724: Deep Breathing
At the current stage, the top-tier players, especially those in damage dealing professions, have incredibly powerful skills and spells.
Li Yao hunts these top-tier players with this exact purpose in mind, causing unsettling chaos on the enemy’s front lines all by himself.
He prevents the enemy’s elite players from showcasing their abilities, creating opportunities for his own top players to deal damage.
That’s the essence of team battles. Sometimes, mere strength disparities cannot determine the outcome of a fight.
Just like in this battle, though Starfire is formidable, when facing enemy numbers a hundredfold greater, no matter how strong they are, the data disparity is simply too vast.
In a normal fight, for example, if choosing a wide-open area, so many enemies attacking the Starfire Team from multiple directions at once would mean that not even Li Yao’s prowess nor the Starfire Team’s elite skills could prevent their collapse.
In such circumstances, at best, Li Yao could save himself or just a few extra members.
But the terrain here presented Starfire with an opportunity; the entrance was limited in size.
The United Army had numbers, but the number of people able to attack the Starfire Team at once was basically fixed.
This intensity of collision means, in essence, that only a few more teams face attacks from one direction.
Given Li Yao and the terrain, in reality, it’s Starfire who has the advantage.
So in truth, the United Army is sacrificing lives to trade for the lives of players in the Starfire’s defensive line.
After a three-hour-long battle, the outer defensive ring mostly collapsed, and most of the Hellhounds were dead or injured, the remainder weaving through the entrance formations, absorbing incoming magic attacks.
Li Yao’s Skeletons and the Starfire members’ summoned beings were decimated, and Starfire’s second defense line was entrenched in fierce combat.
The two Elemental Giants, Hydra, Magic Armor, and two Dragon Queens also found themselves in an endless siege. Despite their strength, facing seemingly infinite opponents was proving difficult.
The allied guild teams were just too numerous, and each open passage meant any new appearing team would join the alliance.
They too perceived Starfire as the greatest threat, and with contracts being very fair and just, the newly appearing groups had no reason, nor inclination, to object.
The Elemental Giants’ elemental aura dimmed significantly, and their health was dwindling.
The Magic Armor was covered in scars, and the Hydra’s heads were drooping under constant assault, only thanks to their symbiotic nature had those heads survived.
If this were the wilderness, not even a world boss, much less a boss of faction level could resist the battery, its health and vitality would inflate to terrifying proportions.
But they were Li Yao’s contract partners, possessing resurrection traits, meaning that facing an increasing number of players, their health and vitality wouldn’t change.
"Damn it, these little thugs, I’m about to lose my temper," muttered the Black Dragon Queen, her eyes no longer as brilliant as they had been at the start; she wasn’t in her dragon body right now but in a variant spellcasting form.
Three hours of high-intensity continuous spellcasting left even her feeling slightly fatigued.
This is The Ancient God World, no matter how strong you are, facing opponents akin to an ocean, one day you’ll be exhausted to death.
In the ancient wars, so many demigods fell, only a few were killed by powerful foes; most were exhausted to death by hordes of Demons.
The Anti-Magic Alliance back then fought continuously for over three months, led by the demigods, from the Sea of Mountains all the way to the elven capital, demigods sleepless and tireless, facing endless Demons, knowing only that the Burning Legion sought to destroy this world, so they fought desperately.
Their spells were terrifyingly powerful, each one causing immense damage, while their Magic Shields were extraordinarily strong, basically ensuring they remained unscathed.
On the other hand, the Blue Dragon Queen showed no signs of fatigue, maintaining vibrant energy; she was indeed a magic master, never worrying about mana depletion.
"So, you’re just too weak," the Blue Dragon Queen laughed.
"Hmph, if I were in my true form, I’d flatten you in a minute," replied the Black Dragon Queen, displeased.
"You’re talking about the past; things aren’t necessarily the same now," the Blue Dragon Queen, having enjoyed Li Yao’s enhancements, especially receiving Titan’s Strike, clearly felt her strength shift; she may now be able to defeat the Black Dragon Queen.
"It’s just a mechanical body; once the master’s Heart of Machinery matures, I’ll follow the Blade Queen and get a whole set of Metal Armor," the Black Dragon Queen grumbled more.
She wasn’t overwhelmed; it’s just that this intensity of battle, even fighting for a month wouldn’t tire her out, but players differed from monsters.
Monsters are easy to kill, whereas player teams, various team tactics brought her endless frustration, preventing her from unleashing maximum slaughter.
"I can’t hold back anymore; anyway, the master can heal me, and I can be resurrected if I die; I’m going to vent my anger," exclaimed the Black Dragon Queen as her form vanished, transforming into the enormous Giant Dragon Form, savagely inhaling.
On the battlefield, every player’s display showed a prompt.
"System: Black Dragon Queen Hestra took a deep breath."
Everyone realized the Black Dragon Queen was preparing her ultimate ability, and in her Dragon Form no less. As she inhaled, it looked like endless flames converged into her body, an overwhelmingly fierce and blazing aura settling over everyone, like the end of days.
"Quick, damn it, whichever team can deal damage to the Black Dragon, do it! Take her down, interrupt her ultimate!" hollered several command leaders, given the square’s lower height, coupled with the Black Dragon Queen’s massive size, a large swath of enemies could attack her.
An avalanche of skills and magic assailed the Black Dragon Queen, drastically easing the pressure on Starfire’s lines, allowing Diva to seize the chance to reposition the layout.
The Black Dragon Queen’s health rapidly decreased, assaulted by too much, especially during deep breaths when her defenses were significantly reduced.
If the Black Dragon Queen were just an average boss, she might’ve been one-shotted.
Finally, after nearly ten seconds of inhaling, the Black Dragon Queen’s maw opened wide, a gigantic, fiercely hot pillar of flame erupted from her jaws.
Simultaneously, she took flight, the enormous flame column striking the ground, causing explosive Flame Explosions.
Sheets of players died miserably in the eruption or fiery explosion.
With the Black Dragon Queen’s flame column’s surge, the entire square’s temperature rose to a terrifying level.
Even outside the column’s coverage, the searing air was palpable; everyone was sweating profusely, with each breath causing a burning sensation in their lungs.
The flame column’s temperature was so high that players scorched by it, regardless of being a tank or anything else, turned directly to ash...
