Chapter 1654: Chapter 1654 Lesson
The Lord of Armor was originally covered in frost, and with the fusion of a touch of darkness, the armor on his body underwent another change.
Many parts of his body grew soft spikes like tentacles, and his eyes, which originally lacked any brilliance, regained their vitality.
"Blood, rhythm, I can feel the sensation of breathing again, and the sound of a heartbeat is surprisingly intoxicating." The Lord of Armor bowed again: "You have given me new life, and I will fight for you until the last drop of blood is shed."
Li Yao nodded: "Not everyone has a chance at life like you. Cherish it. I will summon some warriors from the Spider Kingdom in the future. Your kingdom may be able to thrive once more. Now have your men stop."
"As you command, great master." The Lord of Armor let out a sharp cry, and all the undead beetles ceased their slaughter, while the Devil Tyrannosaurus was also restrained, immediately halting the battle.
Looking at the battlefield, the casualties on both sides were almost even, neither side clearly gaining the upper hand.
The halt to the fighting left those who were battling alongside the Legion of Devil Tyrannosaurus bewildered, wondering why the bugs suddenly stopped attacking. Still, they were quite pleased, for at least they had completed their mission.
With the battle ending on this side, the forty people were virtually all glimmering with a golden light, having gained a level.
Although they didn’t kill the Lord of Armor, subduing him was just as good, only without the loot typically dropped by a death.
Yet to casually follow the chaos for half an hour and gain a level was a rewarding achievement that left the forty people ecstatic.
In addition to this, they also accrued a large amount of military merit. Barring the absence of loot, it was nearly perfect.
Of course, they didn’t lose many troops, which was fortunate, as the Devil Tyrannosaurus were every player’s treasured asset, and losing even one was heartbreaking. If it weren’t for the enticing military merit and Li Yao taking action personally, they wouldn’t have agreed to summon so many cherished assets for such a dangerous task.
"Thank you all for helping to subdue the Lord of Armor. You did exceptionally well and can return to headquarters to claim your respective rewards," Li Yao said politely.
Without them, Li Yao wouldn’t have captured the Lord of Armor so easily. Furthermore, there would have been no chance to have so many bugs enter the Lord of Armor’s body to free him from the control of the Lich King and regain control over him.
It wasn’t very difficult for the Starfire Guild to gather these professions, but assembling such an elite lineup wasn’t easy, and coordinating them wasn’t timely either.
The main reason, though, is that when he’s having his fill, he always leaves a bit of soup for others. Being selfish is not a very good habit.
The Lord of Armor and his subordinates took a temporary rest. The Lord of Armor, in particular, needed a good recovery and treatment before rejoining the battlefield.
In the far distance, Dalkhan saw this scene and nearly went mad with rage: "Damn it, you worthless trash, all talk and no action, yet so useless when doing the real thing."
How could he not be angry? Failing to deal with the opponent was one thing, but they actually surrendered to the enemy and became a major threat.
Dalkhan’s plan to attack the flank failed once again.
And the regular army of the Withered Sun Legion was already approaching the range of Daisom’s defensive structures. As they advanced toward the enemy, they began bombarding their defensive fortifications using long-range stone throwers from the legion.
Meanwhile, the Withered Sun Legion halted its advance, summoned its legion forward, and called forth its Elemental Beings, with a large number of Elemental Beings appearing at the front lines of the battlefield while the main force of the Legion of the Withered Sun began to retreat.
They directly avoided the strikes from both sides’ long-range weapons. Most of these summoned beings were Demons summoned by Magicians and Death Elements and Twisted Elements summoned by Ashen Mages.
In terms of damage, it’s not substantial, but it was not easy for Abominations and Skeleton Battle Generals to break through their defense lines either.
Players still had plenty of long-range machinery, and the military merit offered by the Legion of the Withered Sun was substantial. Destroying enemy long-range military weapons like stone throwers and necromancy cannons could earn a considerable amount of military merit.
One could say the first phase of the war had ended. The Withered Sun Legion achieved a phased victory.
But both sides were once again in a standoff. Without dealing with Daisom’s defenses, the Withered Sun Legion didn’t want to suffer excessive casualties and could only resort to a war of attrition.
Li Yao returned to the Drying Sun and ordered it to start pinpoint shootings with the Magic Crystal Cannon, also launching long-range strikes against the enemy’s undead ocean.
As the ice crystal dissolved in Li Yao’s hand, a towering range of mountains appeared in his consciousness, with the peaks all covered in ice and snow. At the very top stood a majestic blue fortress.
On the summit was a glacier radiating endless cold, where an armor-clad figure, wielding the Demon Artifact, sat on the Ice Throne, observing Li Yao.
"Lich King, impressive tactics indeed, being able to draw my consciousness across the vast distances to the Ice Throne," Li Yao remarked calmly without a hint of panic.
"Mortal, you are bold. Do you know your current predicament?" The figure on the throne spoke.
Li Yao laughed, "Of course I know. Isn’t it that you want to develop me into your subordinate, oh no, turn me into your puppet, under your control?"
"Mortal, since you know your fate, then kneel. I will bestow upon you unimaginable power," said the figure on the throne coldly.
"If I want power, I can obtain it myself, and kneeling to you is out of the question. You keep calling me mortal, what are you supposed to be? A Prince of Humans? A despicable old Orc shaman? Or perhaps a pitiful creature consumed by countless vengeful souls. Calling you a demigod is flattering; you’re merely a coffee table controlled by the ice from the depths of the universe," Li Yao retorted bluntly.
"Mortal, you are audacious." The figure on the throne suddenly stood up, emitting a cold aura that could freeze the soul.
"What, did I hit a sore spot? Are you furious from embarrassment? Well, if I were bound here, I’d also want to find some things to play with. World-ending, creating a kingdom of undead, sounds nice. But I have a question: if the world were filled with undead, what happens if one day this plane’s undead are all gone?" Li Yao asked like a curious child.
"Damn little worm, who gave you the courage," the Lich King swung a sword at Li Yao.
Li Yao’s body was enveloped by the dancing touch of darkness and then suddenly shattered into countless stars: "If you want to control me, try again in the next life. I’ll be waiting. Next time, my real form will personally ascend the Ice Throne, and at that time, it will be your end."
The Lich King looked at the countless twinkling star fragments and was furious, almost bursting with rage. This was not how it was supposed to go. He spent a massive amount of energy to draw his soul over, intending to overpower and control the other party.
But instead, he was mocked by the other party, who ended up threatening him. This script wasn’t right in any way...
