Chapter 1564: Original text: Chapter 1564: Sudden Turbulence

The sudden fall nearly shattered the fleshy mountain; if it weren’t for its overwhelming strength, Li Yao might not have needed to fight further to finish off this mutated soft-bodied creature.

Even so, it lost more than a third of its health—although by absorbing the life energy of hundreds of players, its health recovered by almost twenty percent.

Of course, this was one of its ultimate abilities, not something it could use constantly. Besides, it was now gravely shaken and lacked the capacity to pursue the retreating army.

The players in the sky seemed to seize the moment, descending swiftly like the wind. Though they struggled in aerial combat, on the ground, they believed they could unleash two hundred percent of their combat potential.

However, someone moved even faster. Just when the players initiated their descent, two figures appeared around the Faceless Apostle.

Shadow Shaping!

Li Yao’s skill was practically an upgraded version of Shadow Step, underscoring the remarkable value of the Cloak—having a skill that enables instantaneous relocation proved invaluable.

Professions with consecutive Blink abilities often dominated battles. While technique played a role, what truly mattered was having sustained mobility skills.

"Killing amidst blood-soaked chaos, escaping under the gleam of white blades"—only those who had experienced such mobility could feel the essence of these words.

Even Li Yao himself had to tread cautiously when encountering opponents with such abilities—an undeniable god-tier skill.

Despite Shadow Shaping being bound to shadows, its effectiveness was rarely diminished—unless plunged into complete darkness. Generally, even the slightest light would cast a shadow.

In the pitch-black realms of The Ancient God World, there were countless magic objects and scrolls that could serve as light sources.

Li Yao didn’t abandon aerial combat due to incompetence. Instead, he brought the Faceless Apostle crashing down specifically because of Shadow Shaping’s advantage on the ground.

The pressure of fighting the Faceless Apostle was immense; a moment’s carelessness could lead to instant death. Even with the advantage of his skill, Dark Touch, negligence could spell doom.

As the Faceless Apostle unleashed its might, absorbing blood to recover its body and regain its agility, Li Yao swiftly appeared within the Apostle’s shadow.

Slash—

Li Yao swung his sickle incessantly, attacking the Faceless Apostle’s core repeatedly.

In an instant, the Apostle’s health plummeted below half.

Far off, a maiden enveloped in vibrant green natural energy brandished her magic wand, casting spells one after another. Some spells targeted Li Yao, bolstering him, while others targeted the Apostle, weakening and controlling it—this was the Green Dragon Princess in her humanoid form.

"Prairie Fire, the credit doesn’t solely belong to you, does it?"

Two rogues appeared stealthily behind Li Yao. One held a dagger gleaming with green toxin, while the other released a strand of spider silk, evidently attempting to restrain and assassinate Li Yao.

Swoosh swoosh—

The Faceless Apostle finally reacted, its tendrils wildly swung about, shrieking as they aimed to strike Li Yao.

Shadow Shaping!

Li Yao vanished in an uncanny manner, leaving behind two shadow clones. The clones, created by Shadow Shaping, remained in place.

The two clones sprayed spider silk from their hands, ensnaring the two rogues who were trying to escape.

Crack—

In a flash, the Faceless Apostle’s tendrils pierced through both of Li Yao’s clones and the two rogues, leaving the rogues hopelessly bound by spider silk and unable to flee.

The rogues died miserably on the spot, and Li Yao didn’t even spare them a glance, as his real body and clones moved like sinister phantoms.

The players who had chosen to reveal themselves and began casting spells at Li Yao’s previous location suddenly froze, their expressions rigid. Moments later, severed heads flew through the air one by one.

"Damn it! They ruined everything for us."

The Green Dragon Princess was also enraged. After battling for so long, they had finally discovered a flaw in the Apostle’s defenses. Coupled with its recovery-induced disorientation and her control abilities, Li Yao should have had several seconds of uninterrupted assault—enough to either severely wound the Apostle or even determine the outcome of the battle.

But these clueless troublemakers, powerless against the Faceless Apostle, interfered just when others were about to triumph over it. The Green Dragon Princess couldn’t suppress her outrage.

The players who appeared likely didn’t realize that their actions wouldn’t just anger the Green Dragon Princess; they would also be etched deeply into her memory.

When the Giant Dragon reputation system was finally opened to all players, these offenders discovered to their dismay that no matter how hard they tried, their reputation with the Dragon Clan remained indifferent, never even reaching the "friendly" level.

With the Green Dragon Clan in particular, they were outright despised—but that’s a story for another time.

Li Yao killed over a dozen reckless players, finally venting his frustration. But the Faceless Apostle had mostly regained its composure, making further attacks on its core far more challenging.

"Prairie Fire, you’re amazing to have critically wounded the Apostle. Isn’t that contribution enough?"

"Exactly, leave the rest to us; it’s just cleanup work now."

"Prairie Fire, with your skills, you can obtain gear by targeting any boss you like—why compete with us over this one?"

"That’s right, you can feast on the meat, but shouldn’t we less-skilled players at least sip the broth?"

"True enough—we sacrificed countless allies to intercept the Apostle. If not for our efforts, how would you have found an opening to strike? Learn some gratitude, will you?"

The descending players, accompanied by their elite airborne troops, quickly organized and divided tasks among themselves.

A large number positioned themselves above Li Yao, as if ready to gang up on him should he continue attacking the Apostle.

Even the Green Dragon Princess found herself obstructed by a crowd. These top-tier players clearly had an eye for strategy and had noticed that Li Yao’s strikes were inflicting exceptional damage—not due to any attribute outburst, but because he had located the boss’s weak points.

To them, once the weak points were identified, no matter how formidable the boss was, they could overwhelm it with sheer numbers—even if it meant suffering additional losses.

With the prospect of claiming the raid’s first kill, they certainly had no intention of letting Li Yao steal such a monumental achievement.

"Fine, go ahead and kill it yourselves."

Even with his wealth of experience across two lifetimes, Li Yao struggled to suppress his boiling anger. This was outright shamelessness.

Stealing the boss kill and then posturing as paragons of justice—everyone could see the truth of the matter. Their blatant distortion of reality stoked Li Yao’s fury to its peak. While he had confidence in his ability to eliminate those obstructing him, he simply didn’t have the time to finish off the boss.

On the ground, the players’ combat prowess was vastly superior to what they managed in the air. Under their interference, landing attacks on the boss’s weak points became significantly harder.

More critically, with so many players swarming the boss, even knowing its weak points became moot.

The boss’s regeneration was far too potent; these players and elite troops weren’t aiding in its demise—they were merely serving as a quick blood supply for the Apostle.

If it couldn’t be killed in one decisive blow, defeating the Faceless Apostle would be nearly impossible...
