Chapter 1562: Chapter 1562: Turbulent and Tricky

The players on this side were also angry. You’re the useless one, being suppressed by Demon Throat, and you blame us. The others are holding off the berserk Demon Marshal with just three of them—an extraordinary feat.

On the other side, a player and the Green Dragon Princess were together holding back the Faceless Monster. Although its health hadn’t dropped much, it was at least suppressed in terms of momentum.

And over here? You’re supposed to be a World-level Chief, yet you got your arm easily severed and your shield stolen. Now you’re fighting Demon Throat, not only failing to show your strength but also shirking responsibility. If it weren’t for us players, you would’ve been entangled and devoured long ago, okay?

The players on this side felt helpless too. The underground battlefield was all about grinding warfare—it was a war between Legions. To earn military merit, a Legion’s combat power mattered most.

Various guilds went all out, summoning their elite Legions to join the battlefield below and clash with Uldaman’s forces.

Though these players were top-tier experts, they still weren’t qualified to act as unmatched generals, unable to lead the charge.

So, to earn more military merit and secure the first kill, they had to find opportunities in the aerial battles among the strongest fighters.

However, under the current situation, the aerial battlefield was dominated by the incredibly overpowered Demon Marshal. Not everyone had the courage to join in; at least, it wasn’t the optimal fighting ground.

As for the Faceless Monster’s side, the players had offended Li Yao. Although the situation was temporarily stable, offending both the Faceless Monster and Li Yao meant facing attacks from both sides, making it extremely dangerous.

Meanwhile, the Gnoll was being suppressed. Thanks to the players, they barely managed to hold the line. Still, the Gnoll leader wouldn’t stop running its foul mouth.

If it were a player, it probably would’ve been surrounded and taken down already. But as a World-level Chief representing the Chaos Camp’s dignity, opposing it was tantamount to challenging an entire faction.

For players, even though this remained a virtual world, not everyone was as indifferent as Li Yao, who could act recklessly against the Gnoll.

They were rational. Offending an entire faction could result in bounties being issued. Chaos Camp’s alien players, who already looked down on them, would seize the chance, turning their guild bases into a nightmare of harassment.

So, they could only endure. Of course, not everyone felt this way. True top-tier experts representing their guilds’ elite members had already set their killing intent on the Gnoll. However, they were highly calculated; now was not the time to act.

Thus, the battle continued in a sticky and strange stalemate. In the sky, the showdown between the Faceless Monster and Demon Throat had lasted nearly an hour, leaving countless deaths and injuries, yet no definitive outcome had emerged.

This was because none of the leading strong fighters had truly fallen. The fight was still in a transient, delicate balance.

The ones dying were all those super experts eager for military merit. Everyone knew this was already the final battle of this dungeon. If they didn’t risk it now, they’d lose their chance forever. That alone was enough to drive people mad.

Of course, many guilds hadn’t thrown all their members into the ultimate fight among top-tier fighters. Instead, they joined battles against slightly weaker Chiefs.

These were mid-tier battles—they wouldn’t decide the ultimate outcome, but they still yielded substantial military merit for the players.

Furthermore, the loot was lucrative. Quite a few lucky individuals had already secured precious rewards after taking down Race-level and Faction-level bosses.

Compared to the top-tier battlefield where outcomes determined victory and defeat, the rewards here might be less significant but still enticing—especially for challenge-mode players who particularly favored mid-tier Chief battles.

In the most critical three battlegrounds, both sides were desperately searching for weaknesses in each other, hoping to deliver a killing blow and break the deadlock decisively.

The Demon Marshal’s madness phase had passed. However, the prolonged peak-level battle had left both sides somewhat exhausted. Though the exchanges seemed intense, achieving a decisive victory was proving difficult.

The most significant turning points lay in two battlegrounds. One was Demon Throat, who was growing increasingly dominant, gradually gaining the upper hand. The Gnoll commander was being suppressed mercilessly, his body riddled with wounds, and his transformed state showing signs of instability.

At this moment, his cursing grew even more vicious. If he were to fall, Demon Throat joining either of the remaining two battlefronts would determine the overall victory.

On Li Yao’s side, the fight resembled a grinding stone. Li Yao and the Green Dragon Princess were suppressing the Faceless Monster while continuously slaughtering players.

Meanwhile, whenever players attacked the Faceless Monster, they’d seize any chance to ambush Li Yao, attempting to kill him. Even the reprimands and orders from the three faction leaders couldn’t stop this behavior.

This was because, on Li Yao’s front, player casualties were the highest and most harrowing. Consumed by rage, the players were seeing red.

Yet this situation, which seemed like Li Yao suppressing the Faceless Monster, was precarious. The Faceless Monster’s regeneration was utterly monstrous, keeping its health consistently above ninety percent. Li Yao and the Green Dragon Princess dared not lower their guard for even a moment, forcing them into complete concentration.

Now, both sides understood: if Li Yao couldn’t swiftly take down the Faceless Monster, the United Army of the four factions might collapse alongside their upper-echelon fighters, triggering a devastating rout.

Whether it was the factions’ elite Legions or their representational Chiefs, losing them would deal an unbearable blow to their respective factions.

"Prairie Fire, what the hell are you still dithering for? If you don’t kill that guy soon, we’re going to collapse! Do you really want to take my corpse to meet the Great Chieftain?" Blood Hoof Chieftain, soaked in sweat and clearly exhausted, spoke harshly, his two nostrils continuously flaring great puffs of white air.

The Great Angel’s golden glow was gradually dimming too, losing its former brilliance. The human General’s Warhammer, streaked with lightning flashes, was moving sluggishly, and the spectral figure of the Vrykul warrior veiling him had also begun to dim.

The Demon Marshal looked slightly disheveled but remained brimming with fighting spirit. After all, he had reached transcendence.

"Finally, I’ve found it."

Li Yao’s light projection had burst out several yards before he finally reined it in, ceasing his intricate analysis. Feeling a surge of relief, he, too, was drenched in sweat. Half an hour of high-intensity performance had taken its toll, leaving even his Spirit somewhat fatigued.

"Really?" The Green Dragon Princess, looking equally haggard, bore multiple marks of Corrosion. If not for the inherent corrosive properties of her Power of Dream, she’d have suffered severe injuries long ago.

"Yes. He’s hidden it well. After compiling and analyzing tens of thousands of attacks and with the aid of the Divine Eye, I’ve finally pinpointed his core. This guy is incredibly cunning, deliberately letting some harmless attacks land near his core to mislead us. His core is actually at the root of the large tentacle on his left shoulder, close to the back."

Li Yao finished his explanation in one breath. "But this guy is too tricky. Even my attacks can’t directly hit the core. I need you to restrain him for more than one second. If you can do that, I’m eighty percent confident I can take down this tough bastard." ...
