Chapter 1505: Chapter 1505: Assassination
Everyone was stunned by the sudden changes; the Priest’s betrayal and Alice’s moment of severe injury.
But incredibly, Alice was unscathed, regenerating a complete heart from scratch.
Moreover, the complexity of the relationship between the two could be heard by anyone. Such an unexpected event brought an abrupt end to the cheer from the Dragon Clan side.
Alice’s expression had turned icy cold, and her eyes began to flash with a chilling light: "We’re even now. Years ago, you saved me when my soul was trapped in a Dream, now I’ve repaid that debt."
The Priest murmured to himself: "So, you were that little girl."
"What else would it be? You had too many flaws. Had it not been for your saving my life back then, you wouldn’t have had the chance to infiltrate for so many years." Alice’s clothes were now as good as new, and a complex light flickered in her hand.
With a flick of her fingertip, she pointed directly at the Priest’s forehead. The Priest did not even attempt to dodge; his expression was distant and complex as he finally understood everything.
He had thought himself clever, the only one among his people who had managed to infiltrate the upper ranks undetected – all because he had casually saved someone years ago.
And after all these years, to say there were no feelings involved would be impossible. It wasn’t that he couldn’t dodge; he chose not to.
"Since we met in a Dream, then stay in the Dream forever."
Weird patterns emerged on the Priest’s body as he slumped down.
Alice’s tendrils of darkness danced around her, flinging the Priest back into the Dragon Clan’s ranks.
"You celebrated too soon; the outcome is not yet decided. Activate the killer move."
The faces of the Green Dragons changed drastically, realizing that Alice’s move was targeting them. How were they to respond?
Boom...
However, at that moment, a golden Starlight Fish burst like lightning from behind Alice.
Alice was caught completely off guard, blasted away by the explosion, her tendrils of darkness shattered.
"You underestimated me. Knowing who I am, how could you forget the Dragon Strike Cannon that you forged?"
The voice of Li Yao came from the distant schools of fish.
This time, Alice was in a miserable state, her back a bloody mess, her internal organs charred black.
This was only because her body was extraordinarily resilient; had it been a regular leader, they would have been blown to pieces by the cannon.
Yet even so, Alice was seriously injured.
But the leaders around her reacted quickly, thoroughly shielding Alice and denying Li Yao the chance to launch a second strike.
Various Potions fell upon her, wounds slowly healing, but she was already gravely injured, with no possibility of a swift recovery.
"Damn it, I had actually forgotten about you, the small fry." Alice laughed softly: "Interesting, did you actually see through my moves, or are you just a blind cat that found a dead mouse?"
Li Yao replied indifferently: "Is it that hard to read your moves? You just suffered a fatal injury. There are many methods in this world to regenerate, but Spells consume one’s life force. You regenerated a heart and seemed unaffected, but in reality, you fell into a weakened state, devoid of fighting power. You played it well, though, with the strangeness of your tendrils of darkness making others believe nothing was amiss. But don’t forget, I have two tendrils of darkness myself, understanding them far more than you do."
"I see, this time you have a slight edge. But even if you’ve seen through my facade, what can you do? You are too weak. Even a powerful strike from the Dragon Strike Cannon can’t kill me. You still can’t change the overall situation. Your Array is quite tricky, but as long as we wipe out these Green Dragons, your plans will naturally fail." Alice’s complexion was ashen, obviously weakened to an extreme.
"Let’s try it then, to see if there’s still a chance to kill you. In your current state, just one more hit from the Dragon Strike Cannon and you would die. Come, let’s make a bet."
Alice and the fortress’s leader both looked towards the school of fish, swelling like the tide, but couldn’t tell which one was Li Yao at all. Damn this bet.
If they knew where Li Yao was, they could have defended easily, just by keeping an eye on Li Yao’s movements. The Dragon Strike Cannon is indeed powerful, but it takes too long to fire. However, they currently couldn’t find the opponent at all, nor could they tell when the opponent would cast it.
They are not like Alice; if hit by the Dragon Strike Cannon on a weak point, they would be instantly killed.
"Why haven’t you started casting spells yet, to take down these damn Green Dragons."
Alice said in a stern tone.
Under the leadership of one leader, they each took a swig of a potion with swirling purple fumes, and then stood on a small Array, beginning to rapidly chant the arcane incantations together.
However, just a few seconds after they started, accompanied by a Flash, everyone saw a Starlight Fish, composed like stars themselves, pierce through the throat of the leading leader, then the Starlight Fish exploded, shattering the leader’s neck and blasting his head off.
"Killing you casters so defenseless doesn’t even require the use of the Dragon Strike Cannon."
Upon hearing Li Yao’s words, the leaders of the Magma Fortress each flashed a look of dread.
The beam of light was too fast; they might be able to evade it if they focused entirely, but if they were in the middle of spellcasting, they were basically lambs to the slaughter.
"Infinite Range Arrow, this is the Star Bow’s Starlight Arrow." A realization flashed through Alice’s eyes.
"Good eyesight, to recognize it even in its transformed state. My Infinite Range Arrow doesn’t need as long to prepare as the Dragon Strike Cannon."
"What do we do now?"
The leaders of the Magma Fortress were completely at a loss. They were not afraid of death, nor were they unwilling to fight to the death.
But damned, how could they fight to the death? Charging into the enemy Legion means they could only be attacked and unable to break through. Casting spells here was equally suicidal; facing such an opponent, they really didn’t know how to respond.
The soldiers felt the same way, having lost their will to fight.
The Legion formation, combined with Li Yao’s long-range strikes, had completely shattered their confidence.
They were not weak; they had faced the real Dragon Legion before, and even though they paid a heavy price, at least by sacrificing their lives they could take down one or two Green Dragons.
But now, they didn’t even know how to fight desperately.
Besides, even if they had a final secret weapon, they simply couldn’t use it; the recently killed leader served as a cautionary tale.
"General, it’s impossible; we..."
"No, these are people from the surface after all, soon to be our opponents. Are we to retreat every time we encounter them? Even if we can’t annihilate these Green Dragons, we need to grasp the true weaknesses of this battle array. Pass my orders, full firepower, release the Frenzied Smoke, and charge at them."
Alice said coldly.
The others looked at each other, only able to act according to the order.
Clouds of smoke carrying the scent of blood gradually spread. Covered by a red abhorrence, the soldiers of the Magma Fortress became as though injected with adrenaline; fear, hesitation, all vanished. In their eyes, there was only scarlet, and only through bloodshed could they unleash their emotions...
