Chapter 1458: Chapter 1458: Rune Sword Dance

"What a masterpiece, even if I were to die in battle today, this trip wouldn’t have been in vain," the ancient Dwarf muttered, as if enchanted by the Puppet.

Li Yao didn’t rush him. This triggered a note quest, which was quite a good reward. Engineering was difficult to master, and now the opportunity to improve proficiency had come to his doorstep, naturally, he was delighted.

Naturally, Li Yao wasn’t short on Gold Coins, and materials were not what held him back. As a guild leader, if there were materials he couldn’t find at the auction house, he just had to issue a guild mission with some decent rewards, and hordes of people would help him collect them.

But what really hindered his progress were blueprints. Without a good transitional blueprint, his proficiency in engineering simply couldn’t improve.

In Li Yao’s estimation, to advance again, he would probably have to wait until around level sixty to find suitable blueprints.

Blueprints that represent a breakthrough aren’t so easy to find. Now there’s a chance for improvement, and it’s attached to no major cost but merely a few more spoken words, Li Yao naturally couldn’t wish for more.

This is the nature of random missions. As long as certain conditions are met, special missions can be triggered under certain circumstances.

However, such matters could only be left to luck for Li Yao; these kinds of missions were simply untraceable.

After a long time, the ancient Dwarf Chieftain finally came back to his senses: "This is a truly excellent Puppet, and it integrates several different mechanical techniques. Well, let’s get started. If I win, I’ll definitely study your notes and make one myself. If I lose, dying at the hands of such a Puppet would be worth it."

"Then let’s fight." Li Yao’s arms transformed as well, his left hand brandishing a metal Huge Sword ablaze with flames, its blade etched with countless Feather patterns, and a handle that replicated the pattern of a Fire Eagle.

On the other side was a cannon muzzle, the barrel formed by the gaping mouth of a ferocious Gryphon.

The Dwarf’s Puppet wasn’t small either, but it was far inferior compared to Li Yao’s, especially in size.

Li Yao shook his head slightly. After all, it was only the second level’s boss of the instance; it was indeed not strong enough. However, it made sense; Li Yao was now a Race-level leader who had replenished his Origin. Even though not fully ranked, he was still a figure to reckon with, commanding a Legion. If he were to enter an instance, he would at least be equivalent to the final boss in a five or ten-player instance.

In his previous life, many powerful players entered instances for special reasons. Of course, they entered based on their models, becoming bosses.

For instance, once the Dark Camp’s main city became an instance area, the situation was complicated, multiple camps joined forces to liberate the main city, prosecuting the corrupted second Chieftain. Many players became bosses because they had joined this Chieftain.

There were also subsequent enemy Beginner’s Village instances where both sides were farming bosses from the opposing camp, and these bosses were all modeled after players.

For Li Yao, this battle was almost a sure win, with hardly any suspense. However, he was very willing to kill the enemy early and then weaken the enemy Legion’s combat strength.

"Strong, you are strong, I will also use all my power, be careful," said the ancient Dwarf, his voice filled with gravity. "Rune Puppet, my old companion, this may be our last battle. Come, shine your brightest, do not let these surface dwellers look down on us. Rune Puppet, overload operation."

As the ancient Dwarf spoke, countless fine runes appeared on the Puppet, swirling madly around it.

Then the runes changed from yellow to red, and the tubes inside the Puppet also turned red.

Clicking sounds...

The Rune Puppet doubled in size with mechanical clicking sounds, and its momentum soared to the extreme.

"Taste my self-learned skill, Rune Sword Dance."

Boom...

The Rune Puppet leaped up fiercely and charged at Li Yao like a flash of lightning.

Li Yao grew a bit more serious; the ancient Dwarf was actually overloading, which is the final mode for mechanical Puppets, equivalent to the self-destruct, kamikaze attacks of some creatures.

The Rune Puppet’s condition was clearly operating at 200% overload, perhaps for ten minutes, perhaps for half an hour, but after the battle, this Puppet would become scrap metal.

However, correspondingly, its combat power surged by several times, as if all its mechanical lifespan was exchanged for a short burst of extreme combat power.

Four flames erupted behind Li Yao, two from the soles of his feet and two from his back, which were propulsion devices usable in Puppet mode. With the enhancement from several Puppets, he had four propulsion ports, granting him stronger thrust and speed.

Li Yao was not to be outdone, charging straight forward.

Bang, bang, bang, bang...

As they closed the distance, they continuously fired artillery shells, their propulsion speed barely slower than the artillery shells themselves.

After several shells collided and exploded mid-way, the two huge Puppets also crashed into each other.

Rune Sword dance; besides the Huge Sword in his hand, the Puppet’s runes also condensed two Rune Swords identical to the one in his hand, making it as if three of him were attacking Li Yao with swords.

Li Yao’s eyes were also bursting with light, his spiritual power running at its limit.

The moment they collided, Li Yao swung out three swords, but to the average player without divine sight, it appeared as though Li Yao had only made a single swing.

Ding, ding, ding...

The sounds of collision almost occurred simultaneously; the two Rune Swords shattered, reverting back into runes.

The ancient Dwarf felt an overpoweringly strong force, then like a rag doll, he was sent flying backward.

Li Yao’s Puppet was also pushed back slightly but then continued to advance.

As the Rune Puppet was sent flying, it suddenly spun, creating a bizarre trajectory, turning Li Yao’s powerful force into its own propulsion, and in a wildly unpredictable path rushed back towards Li Yao—again with three swords, the same Rune Sword dance as before.

"Interesting, so this is the true Rune Sword dance. I thought it was similar to the Death Knight’s."

Li Yao mentioned this as he struck out once again with three swords.

The Rune Puppet was repelled once more, then came back at an even greater speed.

Onlookers witnessed an extremely bizarre scene; Li Yao’s controlled Puppet was advancing and retreating, but always with greater distance gained than lost.

The Rune Puppet was repeatedly sent flying, then like gravity acceleration, it seemed to be propelled by Li Yao’s force, becoming faster and faster.

Later on, the speed of their weapons’ collisions blurred together, and Li Yao had to activate Wind Thunder Overdrive to enhance his agility, visible proof of the opponent’s ferocity.

Boom...

After five minutes of intense dueling and possibly hundreds of sword strikes, the Rune Puppet was finally forced against a stone wall and embedded into it by the force of the impact.

Crash...

The Rune Puppet emerged, its body covered in scorch marks from the high temperatures produced by the extreme speeds, and its two arms were completely twisted, the Huge Sword in its hands now reduced to scrap metal.

On the other hand, Li Yao’s Combined Puppet was mostly unscathed, but the Fire Eagle Great Sword had lost many Feathers, stripping it of its original beauty...
