Chapter 1456: Chapter 1456: The Insect-Calling Flute

The Starfire Legion erupted in earth-shaking cheers; the recent battle had truly been heart-stirring, completely igniting the fervor in their hearts and causing their morale to skyrocket. Of course, this boost in morale was limited to the elven troops; Li Yao’s own creatures remained as unaffected as ever, like lifeless metallic lumps.

In a place unheard by them, the audience’s cheers grew even shriller. Feng Yi already had a vast fanbase, and seeing Feng Yi display divine power triggered waves of ’6666’ flooding the screen.

In contrast to the fervor elsewhere, the Uldaman side, which had just been immersed in cheers, now fell silent; many faces that carried victorious smiles were now frozen in shock, their eyes wide with disbelief and defeat.

Three battles fought, three defeats, not a single victory, and each loss was extremely bitter.

As the Hunter disappeared, his summoned creatures let out unwilling roars before vanishing; the chains of the Undead wrapped around the items dropped by the Hunter and returned them to Feng Yi’s side.

Li Yao glanced at the spoils of war, which comprised an equipment piece and a special item.

Moreover, the equipment was a special one, taking the form of an insect glowing with a fluorescent light, which didn’t appear disgusting at all but was rather endearing.

This special equipment, which could be attached to the forehead, provided decent attribute boosts, although it was only about a third as powerful as a Golden Dress, so not a major impact.

However, this insect’s two special effects were amazing. One was called Double Gu; facing a potentially fatal attack, the Double Gu could morph into the wearer’s likeness to substitute for death. It had a one-day cooldown and required Crystal Stones to charge, with each unit able to charge up to three times before being depleted, and even the cheapest unit of Crystal Stone cost one Gold Coin.

The second effect was Shadow Shaping, which could summon a shadow with one hundred percent of the user’s combat ability to fight alongside for a minute, with a twelve-hour cooldown, also requiring Crystal Stones to charge.

A great item, though expensive, but its value was undiminished.

It was a standard equipment piece that Feng Yi could use herself if needed; allocation was out of the question.

The second special item was a Flute, named the Insect Calling Flute.

It offered no attribute boosts, but by consuming the appropriate Magic and playing the Flute, the wielder could summon nearby insects to aid in battle.

The number of insects summoned depended on the player’s Spirit and the vicinity’s insect population, and different tunes would produce different effects, useful for exploration, treasure hunting, and combat.

If unfamiliar with the tunes, one could only give simple commands, resulting in rigid control, but mastering the tunes would allow for optimal use of these insects.

In fact, the effects were significant. Although labeled a toy, its utility was far greater.

Exploration could reveal the path and any traps, treasure hunting was not only for finding hidden chests but also for locating ore, herbs, and precious items. As for combat, that depended on the summoner’s Spirit and the presence of powerful insects nearby.

But even just the first two effects were tremendously beneficial for the team.

Li Yao thought for a moment and said, "This Insect Calling Flute will be considered a team item. Whoever knows how to play the flute can temporarily gain the right to use the flute."

"Me!"

"Me!"

"Me!"

Pupil, Fireworks, and three other team members spoke at the same time.

Li Yao nodded: "Three, huh? You guys roll for it."

All three of them started to roll, and with Tungtung’s cheer, each of them scored a perfect hundred points—Tungtung instantly killed it with a hundred, leaving Fireworks and 3T in the dust.

"This lucky streak is impossible to deny," Fireworks said helplessly as he looked at his own roll of thirty-eight.

"Ha ha! The number reflects the man! I got 66, and even though I lost, it speaks volumes about my luck. As for you, Sister Fireworks, hehe..."

The crowd burst into laughter as Fireworks’s face darkened and she snorted coldly, "You, always the meddlesome one. I had this gorgeous and gentle friend, the epitome of a good wife, ready to set you up, Xiao Ming, but forget it now."

3T, as a Blood Death Knight, hurriedly offered a smile appeasingly: "Oh no, I’m an honest and simple guy, not the type to sweet talk young ladies—it’s all up to you guys to help me resolve this significant matter of life."

The crowd teased each other, treating the situation as if it wasn’t the beginning of a great challenge.

The Ancient Dwarf’s expression turned grim as he sneered, "Getting a little ahead of yourselves, I see. As always, the outsiders are shallow and ignorant."

Li Yao turned his head slightly and responded indifferently, "Is this considered an advantage? If it makes you feel better, then so be it. It was clear from the start that this is a relentless battle. How else would you want to fight?"

The Ancient Dwarf glanced back at the last warrior, his brow slightly furrowed. Another loss would truly spell their doom, making it impossible to continue overseeing the heroes, which could indeed lead to the collapse of the Legion.

"I’ll go and surely slay one," the Ancient Dwarf warrior declared, grasping his War Axe.

The Ancient Dwarf leader shook his head slightly, "You are a fine commander, but not suited for single combat. I will take this one."

With the Ancient Dwarf’s words, the Puppet closed up above him, enshrouding him completely within the Puppet.

"The final battle, I challenge you. Let’s see if you can make it to the arena in time to fight me to the death." A great sword appeared in the Puppet’s hand, and in the other, a Rocket Cannon.

The Ancient Dwarf leader lifted his great sword, pointing it at Li Yao, full of provocation.

"Why should I be afraid?" Li Yao smiled faintly as he hopped down from the Battle Scorpion. Without any discernible aura, he slowly made his way to the center.

At the same time, Li Yao slung his Bow and Arrow over his back, and then he took the two Sickles from his waist and joined them together to form a Giant Reaper.

"You, a Hunter who seems to favor the bow and arrow, have chosen to battle me with melee weapons, seeking death. With such arrogance, you will pay the price," the Ancient Dwarf remarked.

Far from pleased, the Ancient Dwarf’s rage soared, incensed by the feeling of being scorned.

With no other option, Li Yao commented casually, "I really can’t think of anything to use against you. I have a Puppet too, but if my Puppet were to show up, it’d tear yours to shreds in seconds. I’m proficient with the bow, but using it, I could take you down without you even laying a finger on me – and you’d only feel despair, not the tragic determination and will to fight you have now."

Li Yao glanced at his Sickle in hand: "So I figured, you’re not that weak, and my melee combat skills are not yet perfectly integrated. I might as well use this opportunity to practice."

"You’re courting death," the Ancient Dwarf erupted. When had he ever been so belittled?

This was a life-and-death duel, and the opponent dared to abandon his strongest suit, choosing his weakest to use as practice against him—a disgrace of the highest order.

"Courting death? First, you have to be capable of killing me," said Li Yao as he stood still at a distance of one hundred and fifty yards from the Ancient Dwarf: "Alright, let’s begin."

"I have no interest in sparing. You claim to excel in Puppets, so let me witness your invincible Puppet. I want to see whether it’s the ancient Rune Puppets passed down from our forebears that are superior, or your outsider Puppets..."
