Chapter 1157: Chapter 164: The Calm Before the Storm

"This is Fourth District-X785 Module, please check if your access is authorized." The mechanical synthetic voice rings in the ear, followed by a green sign appearing on the panel in front. The entire large door opens, revealing a hexagonal straight passage, with illuminated grids on the floor and ceiling, like a track leading to the end of the world.

"How long is this passage?" Standing by the entrance, Tilan asked with curiosity.

"The passage is approximately 36 kilometers long, running through Fourth District of the space station, acting as an internal highway." Then the officer led Tilan back to the suspended airship and returned to their seats.

Faced with the passage about a hundred meters high, the small airship seemed like an insignificant insect, effortlessly slipping into it and then accelerating continuously.

Sitting in the cockpit, Tilan saw various exits flash by on both sides, some empty, some crowded with people, and others with tightly closed doors.

Soon, the airship slowed down along the edge, turned into a side passage, and continued to speed for several kilometers before stopping in front of a door with gray-blue frames and glass.

"This is it, as a newly trained Federal Mecha Driver, you’ll receive training here. Just a heads-up, even in training, you are under the Federation Army’s law. From now on, you’re not a freewheeling citizen, but a soldier who must adhere to strict discipline."

"I understand." Tilan nodded and then disembarked the airship, heading to the reporting point under the guidance of the officer.

Here, she saw many young people in their twenties, mostly men, with a few women among them. They wore dark green and black military uniforms, though without helmets.

A week ago, after accepting Yarnasha’s invitation, she asked Tilan which training path she planned to choose. The first option was specially arranged for girls with a dedicated mecha training ground and staff, offering a life relatively comfortable and free. The second option involved hiding her Songstress identity and directly participating in the recent recruit pilot training, training alongside other contemporaries.

"It seems the senior wants me to choose the latter." Tilan discerned the other’s intention.

"Haha, exactly, because the latter allows you to truly understand the military’s circumstances, and the experience can help you gain some military prestige."

"Privileges can be used, but the cost of using privileges is difficulty in earning trust and recognition. I believe you’re not the kind of delicate girl, you should be able to endure this hardship." Yarnasha awakened her Songstress talent after becoming a soldier; in her youth, she didn’t have the Songstress identity to rely on to avoid rigorous training and pressure.

"Since the senior suggests so, I’ll choose the latter." Tilan nodded.

"Good, I’ll let them know and prepare your identity."

Thus, a few days later, Tilan received the order to report as a new recruit and arrived at this large space base on the outskirts of the Floral Crown Star Domain.

This was one of the space bases belonging to the Eighth Fleet. A quarter of the Eighth Fleet’s warships were docked at the base’s star harbor, where many reservists and recruits received training. Many members of military industry enterprises were also stationed here, responsible for testing and improving new weaponry.

Sitting in the new recruit reporting hall, Tilan raised her eyes to look at the screens hanging from the ceiling, displaying and scrolling through various information, such as which modules would be closed for maintenance today, what new dishes the dining halls introduced, and recent war intelligence, etc.

[According to reports from the frontline, the Fifth Fleet is expected to reach the Sharp-Snout Shark Star Domain in 33 days. So far, there have been no signs of obstruction during the journey. The staff hall speculates that the other side may be assembling a fleet, focusing on defending a few locations.]

"Results will be in 33 days, huh." A sturdy female soldier stretched, drinking from a can of cola.

"What, missing your boyfriend? I remember you mentioned before that he’s serving in the Fifth Fleet." A familiar person teased nearby.

"That’s right, of course, I miss him. We were supposed to have the wedding next month, but now it’s delayed again." After finishing the cola, she tossed the can into the trash and stood up.

"You train these new recruits today, I’m going back for a nap, I’ll cover your shift tonight."

"OK, I also want to have a good rehabilitation session tonight, the conditions here for convalescence are quite nice." The familiar friend waved, signaling no problem.

As the female soldier walked out, she passed by the girl’s side, a wave of steaming sweat smell hit her, making the girl involuntarily raise her fingers to lightly cover her nose.

After the female soldier left, a hearty laugh rang behind the girl: "Haha, is the smell a bit strong, looks like you’re new here."

The speaker was a young man with disheveled hair. Judging by his attire, he was also a newcomer who had just reported not long ago. Seeing Tilan turn around, he couldn’t help but be a little stunned, as it was uncommon to see such a girl enlisting.

Today, Tilan wore a simple style black dress, with only a white fine ribbon at the collar, the upper part slightly fitted, accentuating Tilan’s figure’s curve. While she retained some youthful shyness, the overall outline also hinted towards maturity.

"Are you here to report too?" He asked, somewhat uncertain.

"Yes, just arrived today." Tilan blinked her eyes.

"Doesn’t look like it at all, you’re not a military academy student, are you?"

"Indeed, I’m not." Tilan nodded, then inquired.

"Why do you think so?"

"Oh, probably just intuition, I’m sort of half a military academy student, focusing on tech stuff. The training intensity isn’t high, most of the time is spent learning theoretical and practical engineering, unlike those being specifically trained as officers. They, well, have a heavier aura? Or say their gaze is sharper, unlike your gentle demeanor."
